Explain Your Most Painful Experience

Actually the worst pain i've ever been in was when i had food poisoning. Made the elbow and knee injuries seem like good times. The doctor who came out to the house (i couldn't make it out of the toilet) gave me 2 shots of pethidine in the thigh and even that only took the edge off the pain. Chronic diarrhea and vomiting at the same time, non stop for what seemed like hours. My stomach was swollen and looked like i was pregnant. I just wanted to die. All i can remember thinking was how can the human body possibly get rid of this much fluid and not die?A pastie from the local deli was the culprit. Haven't eaten one since, 12 years and counting:o

I heard ya man. Really Bad Food Poisioning is unbelievably painful. I felt like i wanted to die as well.

Childbirth...... Nothing compares to it.

Wanna bet!

They say childbirth is like passing a Watermelon. Well imagine having a Pineapple with the pointing spikes still attached shoved in there! I broke the record for the morphine button, over 190 times in a night, but that first night is a blurrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Don't know why.

mmm. thats the actual delivery, not the pre ( can be for 24 ours ) and post delivery pain ie 3rd stage and days after with afterbirth pains. Some women need an opiate to reduce the pain of these excruciating cramp like pains..

So what sort of illness had you feeling like a uterus and cervix and vagina are being spiked by a pineapple.

I have quite a few but some that stick in my memory are:

* At Pony Club horse trials 2005 warming up for the showjumping, the horse took off too early and I fell off (this didnt hurt) but it unsettled the horse (and later found out it put its back out) so when I went into the arena it was jumping erratically. Anyway, came to the double jumped the first fine but got caught in the second jump, I fell so hard on it neck that my jaw practically dislocated but I did manage to stay on! Consequently I couldnt eat properly for a week, but the pictures were from it were funny.

* When I was 7 I was swinging on my chair and well fell back through the glass doors we had and straight onto concrete, very painful.

* Riding at Launceston Show the horse that I was riding decided it was too scared to go into the warm up arena and reared up, I lost balance and pulled it over on to my leg on gravel! I couldnt move my knee properly and what was worse I had to ride 5 horses that day with a useless sore leg. Also got a severe gravel race on my elbow, it a least saved my $400 helmet from coming in contact with the ground. My top boot not so fortunate and they were new (grrrr).

* Jumping a horse at a show jumping comp, horse only 1/2 jumped a spread (landed in the middle) while I somersaulted over its head landing right on my head. Pretty spectacular to look at but every time I chewed or moved my jaw it hurt my head.

* Cant got without mentioning the many times of been electrocuted by fences, I hate them so f***in painful!

Geez i wish they were my most painful experiences. Compared to some of the stories already in this thread, yours seem more like a holiday in the country where you fell over a couple of times.

Trust me they were painful, have you ever had a 500kg horse land on your leg?? coming to think of it it happen twice which is probably why my knee plays up occasionally. Yeah some of the other ones sound more painful but I tell now falling of a horse can be a very painful experience. I should count myself lucky I haven't seriously broken anything *touch wood* from those falls. I knew someone who become paralyzed when they fell off a horse and landed on a jump and another that had there leg completely crush when the horse fell on them after going nuts, nasty to say the least.

You could be onto something there :)

You must be tough, i'm not exactly a small person and if a 500kg anything fell on my leg, it would probably crush the leg beyond recognition.

I did drop a 25kg plate on my foot at the gym once, right at the start of all the toes, in a line. Amazingly, nothing much happened. It bounced off. I took my shoe off expecting to see blood and bone, maybe even a toe missing. Sure felt like there was going to be massive damage. But nothing, no cuts or bruises or anything. Just continued on my merry way. I don't know how stuff like that works. Just luck i guess.

I think it was pure luck if anything that knee wasn't crushed in that fall, lucky landing I say. It was more embarrassing if anything because there were people everywhere and my attempts to get up and walk away were laughable (now not then), I couldn't put any weight on it and It actually felt like I didn't have leg. Crippled for weeks after though.

I have only ever broken 1 toe nothing else, thats how lucky (or tough :p) I am. I shouldn't over use my luck though.

I guess genetically people are predisposed to different types of injuries. I've never torn or even strained a muscle. Some people do it all the time. Apart from being hit with a cricket bat which smashed my elbow, i've never broken a bone, and i probably should have had broken bones a few times. But, my knees are dodgy as, same with my bro and the old man. Look at Shane Watson, the aussie cricketer. Tears his hamstrings every other week, it's hopeless. Or Jason Gillespie, Steve Larkham, Roger James. Or Cisse the soccer player, snapped his shin in half, came back after rehab, and snapped the other one. Has legs like an bulimic super-model,playing against guys who quite often have really big, strong calf muscles.

You've never strained or torn a muscle? not fair! Im forever pulling or straining a muscle of some sort and for about 5 years suffered a cronic groin/hip problem in my right leg that when flared up (ie walking long distances, jumping or kicking for a while) made me walk like a crap, couldnt put much weight on and sometimes going trying to go to sleep was bad, felt like someone was stabbing a knife in my groin. Doctor at the time said I pulled a muscle in the groin and would take 2 weeks to heal, it all happened after a school cross country carnival ~I didnt stretch after the race
Anyway to cut it short, it gradually got better but never fully healed. I only recently found out a couple of months ago it was Osteitis Pubis that I had. I have learnt to live with it, its doesn't flare up as much these days, have to be careful what I do and stretching is a must.

I believe what really brought it on was days after the carnival I had Pony Club games where you have to run beside a pony/horse and vault on it. This required using my right leg to jump with onto the horse, the one that was buggered. F*%& that was painful to do! Actually coming to think of it, it probably rates as one of the most painful experiences, it literally felt like my leg was been torn off, slowly or hacking at it with an axe. Dodgy groin, dodgy knee, dodgy joints in general (runs in the family) crippled at 20! :(

I have no idea what it feels like to strain a muscle. I never even bother to stretch much before weight training, except when i do deadlifts.

As for being crippled at 20, come on :) My knee and elbow injuries were both before i was 20. The body heals amazingly, except for cartilage which is why we have both have dodgy knees. After elbow surgery, i couldn't straighten the arm for 13 months, and it was so tiny, had no muscle at all really. I thought it would never be the same. But within 18 months of the operation i joined the army. They made me have the pins and tension wires out before i could enlist even though they were supposed to stay in for life. Then, of course, the army is where the knee injury happened, and they medically discharged me :D By then i was what, 21 or whatever, i felt like a cripple too. But time heals all!

Luckiest person on earth in terms of never pulling muscle! I give you my OP everyday, its fun when its not hurting ;)

The dodgy joints runs deep in my family, my sister has a hip problem (pops out a lot) and back condition that makes it hard to stand at times, mother has crippled fingers, wrists and Carpal tunnel syndrome, father has Osteoarthritis, one Uncle had hip problems that lead to hip replacement, grandmother had hip replacement too, another uncle had a knee replacement, grandfather with dodgy back, the list is endless. I look forward to see what problem I will inherit

Completely Breaking my Femur behind the knee
img0003pp3.jpg

above the knee.

did u have plate, screws, the whole nine yards.
Well when my leg is straight, it is behind it.
The knee is bigger then it looks on x-rays!
I had two rods but i got them took out because the tissue on the side of the knee was rubbing on it and it got stuck in between the end of the rod and the bone which locked my knee up.
That happened 3 times but i got it out one time somehow.

I copped the ultimate in all nadgerings in high school.

Basically, country week carnival, hockey, I got put in goals because the regular bloke pulled a hammy- neglected to get a cup.

Guy came running into goals, and took a golf club swing at the ball. I kicked the ball clear as he swung, and got his stick cleanly in the fork.

I remember hearing this unbelievably loud *THWOCK* which was his hockey stick getting me lengthwise down my old fella and balls, I actually left the ground, and remember moving through the air feeling oddly peaceful and thinking 'gee, i bet this is going to be quite painful'.

Then the pain hit, and i puked, was in a fetal position and in tears. Had to be stretchered off the field by a group of people trying not to laugh, and struggled to walk for a few days. Had this monstrous all encompassing bruise across my meat and veg, which made it agony to walk, piss or crack a fat for a week.

Actually had to go to a doctor to make sure everything was still in working order, but fear not ladies, alls well that ends well.

That would hurt a lot!

When i was playing hockey at school in i think year eight, the teacher had forgotten about all the safety gear and a class mate came runing at me and hit the puck straight into my cheek bone.

Was not broken but bruised up for a couple days and was swallen to hell.

Man that is harsh. I copped sort of half a knee to the balls in a fight once, didn't really connect but even that was almost vomit inducing. You must've been a very, very sore boy for a week or two.

A few days ago i was riding my unicycle.....(awkward) when i was about to fall backwards so for sum reason i pedaled back as fast as i could. My feet slipped off as my left 'harry' was squished to the max!

Being bitten by a cat was very painful. Unlike a dog, they can't alternate the pressure they apply when they bite, so they always bite full on. Their teeth are very sharp, and the wound became infected.

The more I think about it the more I remember nasty painful experiences. One that I now remember was when I was riding flat out down a gravel hill outside my place (fairly steep), anyway at full speed I hit a rock went flying through the air and slide along the ground a couple of meters. The results were skinned from shoulder to hand on my right side, knee savagely wounded knee that doubled in size the next day and became infected, a dislocated shoulder and a few chipped teeth, it really hurt and I was only 9 at the time :(

I also fell about 5-10 (was high as far as I know) meters out a pine tree when I was 11 and landed on directly on my feet. Didnt hurt until I stepped forward and the pain was excruciating (fell over and basically could only crawl), couldn't walk probably for 2 months, first week was the hardest and needed crutches. Didnt break anything though.

But basically summing it all up, I'd nearly rate having OP at its dreadful worst stages as one of the most painful experiences. Thankful thats not often these days.

I've been pretty lucky with pain.

I've taken a cricket bat to the face. Me and my family were playing tennis ball cricket at a park and 2 kids came over and asked to play with us. One of the kids came into bat and decided he was Adam Gilchrist and started practicing shots by swinging his bat back and forth. The stupid brat (probably a few years younger than myself at the time 10 maybe?) let go of the bat during one of his swings and it went flying straight into my face.

I think I was bowling. I was pretty lucky, did not even break my nose. Just had a bit of blood and bruising, but it could have been so much worse at that speed. My dad absolutely lost the plot at those kids and they ran off. Seriously the kid was a moron swinging it around crazily.

Yeah.. so not too bad, but could have been worse.

Another time I was Playing around with some kids on my street and one of them ditched a small rock at me (i think we may have been chucking rocks at each other like stupid kids do).. anyway it hit the target and got me in the cheek and went right in. Made a partial hole into my mouth. I had to get stitches and I still have the scar. But it didn't really hurt.

Yeah.. so i've been pretty lucky. Never really been hurt that badly. Or enough to cause me serious pain (Crying pain etc).

Oh and i've had a stage platform fall onto my foot during an indoor soccer game at my high school (could have sued the school for negligence come to think of it). Anyway.. it fell right on my foot and its pretty heavy. Probably need 4+ kids to carry it. So it fell on my leg after a ball hit it (it was leaning against the wall). It hurt like shit initially, but after that it was just swollen. It gave me a fracture or two in my ankle and other stress fractures. Not to bad, stayed at school till the end of the day without even seeing the medic lol.

If there is any injury I never ever ever EVER want to get. Its the ones where the bone sticks out of your leg or arm. I don't think i'd be able to take that sort of pain... and having to look at it. Scares me to death. This guy... :(
