I think it was a silly decision to start with - Wahabbist ideology is the driving force behind so-called Islamic terrorism, which means the most important (and arguably, the only country) that should be included in any sort of blanket travel ban is Saudi Arabia - and successive US governments for the past 3 decades have been cozying up the the House of Saud, not to mention the increase in arms sales to the Sauds Trump announced in the first few months of his presidency.
