The reason why I have issues with the goal reviews are unlike tennis and most sports they deal with the 2 dimensions or the Cartesian Plane .
AFL have the 3D added as well as a slight arc between goal and point posts . The goal posts are finite in length and more often than not a goal in dispute where this ovoid ball is above the posts is a w***er having a guess to what this ovoid ball is trying to do , let alone finding where it’s true location is. The goal posts are not always fully vertical and they get smaller in diameter as their length increases. It’s hilarious they even bother going upstairs for these decisions.
Don’t get me started on the touched off the boot decisions as the GWS game of 2017 killed that for me.
This year we will have the added pleasure of watching the goalsquare( even though it’s closer to a rectangle ( which it’s not a rectangle bc of the arc) extended by 7 m and at least Rance will have an extra area of 7mX6.4m to play around in as he looked restricted in the last two months of last season.
I will stick to watching some live Tiger games with most at home due to commitments such as Burger home games and my boys. I will be spending more time watching the young fellas playing U9 and U11 this season as they will be separated. I will be giving up most Richmond VFL games unless the hours of each Lunar day increases by about 24/7 as I will need those extra minutes on weekends to fulfil my footy fix.
Im with you TI that goal review it just shite... But I'm pretty sure from point post to point post is still a straight line, not curved at all. It may be at some suburban grounds I imagine, but at AFL venues it is a straight line.

What you didn't mention about the camera's in the goal posts though is that the camera isn't actually placed on the back of the line, it is from the centre of the goal post, so it's view is not entirely accurate when assessing if a goal has crossed the line due to the fact its line of sight is not on the position that the ball should be measured to deem if it has passed the line entirely.

Thanks Hank and If it’s true what you’re saying then theoretically the players aren’t even playing on ovals.
I could have gone all day with the current review technology, but BF doesn’t pay me enough nowadays. 😂

The technology isn't that good for goal reviews. It's not like tennis and just creates more doubt. Leave it to the goal umps. It's the media that caused it to be introduced and Eddie. It's caused more issues than solved IMO.
It’s only the absolute howlers that should be over ruled. Otherwise go with umpire decision. I’m staggered by many over rules that to me are inconclusive on video evidence shown. Also, team should have “3 challenges” or something like that. Don’t leave it to field umpire to call it whenever they feel like a bit of “look at me” time.

With Lynch in,going to be exciting, hopefully Stack really makes a show of it.

Lynch will get more through the turnstiles, the roar will up another notch this year.

Usually I would have thrown the toys out of the pram after the prelim loss but I was quite relaxed in reality, yes it was disappointing but I now follow a club with profits galore,a magnificent new stadium surface and social club and a great admin, coaching staff and playing group.

Footy.’s such a part of this ole town, love Tigerland,we are blessed to go to Richmond pubs then walk across Punt Road into our social then a stroll to the G,the Richmond dance, nothing like it.

I think the oversaturation of media disolves the footy a bit, remember as a kid we only had the last quarter of the best matches to watch but it gave the sport some prestige,no social media and shows like The Winners, the romantic age of footy,on a red rattler, the warm yellow lights and brass fittings inside, love the 70’s.

Love the club, suspect I always will, but the league...**** 'em

I stopped being a member ~4 years ago and have been trying to move away from the game as a whole (that I'm still here shows success in that has been...slow, but significant steps have been made).

Sounds like me as well..though i canna give up my 3 game membership(26 yr member!) while the tigers are on top and i have a chance to win a GF members ballot draw for a ticket!

I now no longer read the Age or the Herald-Scum, no longer listen to the appalling SEN, and no longer watch any of the TV football shows, except for the front bar.

If there's another sport on the planet that has a more incompetent media coverage, I haven't seen/read/heard it.

I'm all in but it's more about the feeling I have against the competition atm, I'm getting an us against them mentallity and I want to shove it up em.

Everything from cocky Collingwood fans thinking we are no longer any good because we had a bad night, the Alex Rance bashing from jealous opposition flogs, the AFL changing the rules and how the game is played at a time when we after nearly 40 years are looking bloody good, the biased and one sided umpiring throughout the past 2 seasons and the excuse being "its the style that we play as to why we concede so many frees" **** off tell that to Jack Reiwoldt everytime he is held off the ball and interferred with, to the uneven fixtures every bloody year that produce lop sided and false ladder results and to those who cant handle us winning because they were so used to us being their safety team to mock when we were struggling.

I'm really suprised the AFL allowed us to recruit Tom Lynch and was expecting a last minute bullshit Tony Lockett situation, I still think the AFL internally would be fuming that we have put a dagger through one of their new plastic franchises by stealing their best player. The AFL is a corrupt organisation that will do just about anything to make sure all 18 teams have won a single premiership each before another team can win a second.

Some might say conspiracy theories much? ... I'll answer that and say absolutely ... the AFL are crooks.

****'em

always think i'm totally uninterested during each preseason coz preseason is ****en boring then we get to day before round 1 and i'm still not that keen then as soon as the ball is bounced i'm in 100% balls deep right until our year is over
yeah! the build-up is a bit of a yawn. but come the first week - away we go.

There's too much emotion and over analysis. It's just a game. A good game, but still just a game.

Lynch is the main reason for my continued interest.

Funny this thread popped up because I was thinking it was just me.
Don’t get me wrong I’ll be there at the games and watching us weekly etc but I feel pretty listless about the whole thing.
Just not as passionate as I once was but I guess that happens.

I still don't know or care about the difference between Gold Coast & GWS.
Prestia, Caddy & Lynch all came from one of them. Townsend & Miles could have come from either. Miles and CEllis went to one or the other.
About 20 years ago I could get involved in serious discussions over a beer with mates about who should be in the team of the year. Now I couldn't even tell you who the key backs are for most other teams.
Is it the move from 12 teams up to 18?
Is it the demise of the glamorous full forward and the one on one duels such as Carey-Jakovich?

Jacob Townsend came from God so he did not come from either GC or GWS

What? Lack of passion? Disengaged? After 35 years of poop Richmond are again a powerhouse and will challenge for a flag again this year. For Pete's sake, this is our time to shine and enjoy some success. I ignore the AFL stuff like goal reviews and new rules and am just grateful that the Tiges are back! I am 61 years of age - bring on another flag!

You’re dead right and it shits me that I feel about footy the way I do these days. If this were Richmond 20 years ago I’d have been unbearable.
But I am going to enjoy because it won’t be forever and we know how long and hard it can be on the other side.
I honestly believe though that 15-20 years from now footy will be with cricket, over saturated and completely uninteresting to a whole generation.

Strange feeling...
Right at our greatest success, after 30 years of crap struggle and false dawns/messiahs, we win a glorious GF then go close the following year...
The AFL reveal their true colours to taint my enjoyment of the footy environment...
Comp expansion...
Rule changes...
Draw shenanigans...
Free kick interpretations...
Goal reviews...
Boring commentators...
Drug scandal cover up...
Umpiring bias...
It stinks, money is king...
I feel ambivalent about the whole footy world...
I just perk up when Richmond are mentioned then say arrr yeah...the hate could be better!
In my day...

Cut off Fox Sports Oct last year, so havent watched any footy for months (usually watch a game replay or two each week through the summer). Havent missed it at all.

But signed up for Kayo sports yesterday. Watched the Dawks qual final. Really looking forward to the season now. Fk the rule changes and the afl BS. Bring it on. It's the Tigers vs everyone else. The team stuck together... passed on bigger money elsewhere, took lower contracts to bring in a gun forward. How good is it going to be with Lynch prowling around the G's forward line.

How many more weeks to Round 1. Can't wait!!

My feeling is that the league wont ever change until they see support is dropping off, so I'm doing my part in sending them that message.

No membership, and no money of any kind goes to anything (directly) AFL related.
