Conferences are completely anachronistic and shouldn't be used in any sport in 2019. why tf were they introduced again?

Anyway great win by the girls, for the first time in 3 years they actually look like a proper, cohesive team. No coincidence that they've also simplified everything and cut out the overpossession. very happy Cowan is now at wc.

Because they didn't want to expand the comp to 9 rounds. Why dafaq they brought in 2 new teams in has me stuffed.

What's also indicative of the AFL's incompetence is that the fixturing isn't even the same for everyone in the conference anyway - they could have just left it as 1 ladder and it wouldn't have changed anything. If they had 2 conferences and everyone played everyone else in the conference home and away (i.e 8 games each) then i'd understand it.

We should do our part in promoting the sport

How to contact the afl (below), if we all write a letter of complaint and say they should extend the season to 9 games and end the conference system perhaps that will make a difference.

I don't like rants but a well thought out letter that supports our point ought to do.
Ill do it after I go for a swim but who's with me.

Re: conferences
Agreed it’s dumb to have conferences in general if not geographical, and/or the season being as short as it is.

However some of the statistical anomoly thus far is fluke and some is luck I think.
Eg.

1. Carlton and Collingwood both being in same conference are the two worst teams it appears. But could’ve easily been us or Melbourne in that bottom 2.

2. The better new team is in A which was really 50/50.

I would expect that things will balance out more as the season progresses, but it still seems like a dumb way to divide teams.

It’s still early doors but the percentages after 2 games are telling a massive story.

Spot on. One ladder, top 4 play finals is much better than 2 conferences. As it is now, Freo are third with two wins. Third in conference B has not won a game. Brisbane have been virtually handed a finals spot on a platter, playing sides like Carlton, Collingwood and Geelong. In Conference A, it will become a shit fight and the three sides that miss out will all be better sides than the team that finishes 2nd in Conference B. Pathetic decision to have the Conferences, an insult to the women playing.

In Cowan's defence, she was missing a lot of the most influential players so far this year

Yes, but I went to our first day ever at the Whitten Oval.

Very strong wind and the conditions were horrible.

We kept on switching the ball against the wind and we turned over the ball and got smashed.

Cowan failed to change her style for the conditions that day and ultimately coaching game style not suited to the women's game.

Especially as our score of 69 is equal to Brisbane total, and more than the rest through two matches!

But still things will correct themselves. We just need to keep winning. Should thump Pies based on current form, can’t let that slip.

Could be top of our conference next week if we smash Collingwood and Dogs beat North.

Problem is we are yet to play both Dogs and North, and Adelaide are better than they were today (missing two of their best players).

Pretty simple though... win and we make finals. And beating whoever wins Conf B should be a formality come the GF.

What a terrific game

I'm sick of the rubbish I hear from some guys I know who play amatures

It was blazing hot today and they ran the game out well. The skills was pretty good. The scoring high for a short game.

These youger girls are strengthening the comp and I've seen some great courage shown.

I admit it's very quickly growing on me

I particularly like it when some of them feel so insecure that they resort to make comments about how terrible AFLW is at every available opportunity on social media. News flash... just because you are a white middle aged amateur footballer, nobody even remotely connected to AFLW gives a flying f**k what you think about women's football. It's pretty similar to that group of West Coast supporters that try and troll Freo's social media accounts... I feel bad enough spending a heap of time on BigFooty let alone wasting hours trolling opposition social media accounts in the hope to get one or two likes and make it all worthwhile

I agree

One of my mates has barely watched any AFLW and is basically pre judging it.

I think it's a mix of ego and arrogance

The game will get better and better. It's in it's infant stage. Some players haven't played the game since juniors. When the AFLW have all players having played and learnt the game from juniors will it truly be at a peak level.

I've also seen girls play with more courage than many amateur males.

I agree 100%
I was at that fateful day & the difference is enormous
Duffy is like a young Haselby & Sharp is like a young Clive for me.
Loving the girls, especially the ex Willetton girls :)

Duffy is like a young Albett, never fumbles, amazing skills, elite pace (unlike Haseleby)...just missing some tank.

One thing I enjoyed today was a one-on-one on the HFF near the Moreton Bay fig tree. Sabrina Traub - marquee player from first season of the comp, mountain of a woman v Parris Laurie - last year’s pick 50-something. Parris absolutely stood her ground, didn’t give way to Traub at all. She managed to halve the contest and we won the ball at ground level. These girls have guts.
