He's like one of those people in a dysfunctional relationship and GWS proposed with a vice-captaincy offer (engagement ring) and Kelly was so gobsmacked by the gesture he felt compelled to stay. That'll fix everything :drunk:

Weak-minded. Never wanted him.

Keep in mind that much of the speculation around Kelly and North is exactly that: speculation.

As far as I know, Kelly's comments in this whole saga have been:

"Gee whiz, North sure offered me a lot, but I'm happy at GWS"

And now:

"I'm still quite happy at GWS"

Hardly weak minded. The easier option would have probably to come to North.

Ummmm no
The club has been in his ear for years, since junior days
Not too long ago he would’ve been ours anyway (50 games f/S)
Stringing a club along for so long and offering false hope is WEAK

There's no way we're going to trade the hottest young property to come out of Tasmania in 10 years whilst we are down there cultivating a market at the same time. It's ridiculous.

They'll ask for the earth, sun and moon, but ultimately they'll only cop:

1) someone who wants to go there
2) 2 x 1st round picks
3) They will match our bid and put the move off again for two more years, until Josh is RFA and we can bid them off the table for nothing in return.

I am not discounting option 3, considering the AFL will give them a 1st round pick anyway.

2 x 1st round picks or 2 years of JK and 1 first round pick. I know what I would take.
They wont put the move off if Kelly tells them he wants out.

Bottom line is he rejected a 9 year deal that would have guaranteed he doesn't have to work for the rest of his life even if he copped a career ending injury the day after he signed. Instead he took a 2 year deal on less money per year. That alone is a sign that his decision making is far from elite. If he decides to spend his whole career at a plastic franchise that is constantly rebuilding, then that will reinforce this view.

Carlton are crazy into Hopper and he is a mad chance of moving. Reason why they can afford to give Kelly the competitive offer.

He should be our target.

Hopper? We were in 2017, couldn't get him and took Kennedy instead, but that love has sailed.
Little way that Hopper would make sense for Carlton now, having added Kennedy, Setterfield, Dow, Walsh and Stocker since then.
Coniglio though? Now he makes sense and much more sense than even Kelly.

We made a great case for F/A's in 2018, mission statement was just look appealing, look convincing that there's something happening at North, win games, don't be bottom four.

We checked all of those boxes and more, and walked away with the best trade period on paper imo.

2019 mission statement; it's finals or bust. Anything less than a top 8 finish won't be good enough in the eyes of Connors. We need to appear to be in the premiership window, doesn't necessarily mean we are for sure, its just that we have to look better than we did in 2018, which means finals has to happen.

Now the deal could be a backdoor handshake sure fire thing, regardless if Kelly is for sure coming or not. The team itself expects to do better anyway.
Agree, and belt GWS comprehensively, and finish well above them on the table.

Strangely I dont see the article as very definitive. I much prefer that players in this situation say nothing and either sign or wait till the end of the season and declare they're leaving.

It's been commented already it sounds a bit like Teloar whoorifessed his l8ve fir the ckub and then refused the same offer we made Cogs and Shiel at the end if the 2015 season. Hard to be sure whether Robbo spun it but he comes across as a bit if a prima donna to me.

As to the leadership thing I think we probably did offer him the vice captaincy to entice him to stay. The reality is Heater will lead more from outside the group.

We're very happy with our captains and specifically recruited Ward and Davis for the job. A little older than the originals but natural leaders and close enough to be there long term. Last year they finished 3rd and 4th in our B&F so they aren't passengers either.

I dont know if Kelly stays or goes. Clearly the club will fight for him, and I have faith in the club.

Frankly I'd rather lose him if he is a prima donna though. Culture is a fragile thing for a new club and more important than any player.

It annoys me that he wrote
North Melbourne understand instead of rival clubs understand, because you can be sure as shit that if he remains unsigned articles, radio hosts, tv ‘experts’ would be banging on about StKilda, Carlton, Hawks etc potentiality luring him.

The moment he appears to stay, North can’t land a big fish. campaigners

Prima donna? WTF are you on about? Is that only if he goes?

Not sure I’d put the word weak and Josh in the same sentence.

It was no doubt a big decision for him to make at the time and in the end the lure of a grand final won out.

The easy option probably would of been to walk.

No. I'm pretty sure we'll keep him anyway because the club is keen to. If you read the article you'll see his waiting for a "gut feel" comment.

Seems like he's enjoying the spotlight to me, and it's a but troubling. Better to say nothing I think.

The “lure a big fish” tact has been attempted numerous times and failed. The club has already executed Plan B during the last trade period and moved on.

We now have an excellent midfield which doesn’t even have room for Higgins any more (he’ll play more forward this year along with Captain).

Time for all of you to move on as well.

........and completely out of character.;)

I've kept it in mind. But I also know he is rather indecisive and relies upon the advice of others far too often.

There's no need to tell me what is and isn't speculation. It's quite evident.

Of course it isn't. It's pap.

This is another beat up. The non captain blokes you named "leadership group" in 2018, have been named "vice captains" this year.

I'd like to know what has changed beyond that. Absolutely nothing is my educated guess.

Frankly I'd rather lose him if he is a prima donna though. Culture is a fragile thing for a new club and more important than any player.

A player isn't automatically a "prima donna" if they want to leave your club.

“If you read the article you'll see his waiting for a "gut feel" comment.” I honestly have no idea what that means

The article is 100% pure deflection, and that can only be a good thing for us.

I reckon todays article is just a ploy to try and stop the weekly questions about what he is up to next year, afaik, he hasn't re-signed yet, so until he does, i have us firmly in the picture to secure his services going forward.

;):thumbsu:

Exactly. What's he supposed to state? "I'm over GWS and want to go to North next year"?

‘There’s a good chance’: Out of contract star drops biggest hint yet

.......etc

“This time round, it’s different. I love it up in here in Sydney, I love the club,” Kelly said.

What's this supposed to mean? He hated the place when he signed on for 2 years?
“I care about this club, I care about my position in it, where we’re going, and I’m in a good position to spend my future here.

Okay, so do you want to sign this 7 year contract right now Josh? Wait.........you don't?

“I care about the draftees we’re bringing in. I want to know we are bringing in the right people who are good footy players that have the right character so we can build on the culture we’ve created here.”

Yeah, is there a single player in the AFL that wouldn't state the same thing Josh? Anyone care to name one?

Kelly’s role as vice-captain has seemingly given him an even greater investment in the Giants.

A Hun psychology extrapolation. Last years "leadership group" is this years "vice captains"
So while the likes of Dylan Shiel (Essendon) have flown the coup, he appears to be more committed than ever.

Yeah, except he hasn't committed.

“I want this club to be successful because right now, and there’s a good chance into the future, I’m going to be a Giants player.

Talk about double speak. Yeah, right now in 2019 you want to win a premiership Josh. Coincidentally, every other player in the AFL wants the same also. "There's a good chance" is a non committal statement.
“I want to win premierships and all those little things add up to that.”

Coincidentally, every other player in the AFL wants the same also.

The Giants will be hoping Kelly follows in the footsteps of defender Nick Haynes, who signed a five-year deal with the club earlier this month.

Of course they're "hoping"

This is an AFL headquarters article with little more than generic pap.

Josh has learned to play the AFL dead bat very well since his last outing in the spotlight.

Just had a read of the last few pages. What I'd like to know is where is that poster who last year during the trade period told us that Gaff wasn't coming? We need him or her to step up now, tell us what's going to happen and then we can close this thread forever or change the title to "Welcome to North Melbourne Josh Kelly".
