Not convinced that McGov is a significant upgrade on Jones, Plowman or Weitering down back and would not like to have too many talls against Richmond (who are unlikely to play Lynch) in Round 1. Their smalls are lethal. The problem with our best 22 is structuring our backline with Marchbank, Docherty and Williamson out.
I reckon the obvious solution is for McGovern to play down back until Marchbank returns.
With the marking power of Charlie and Harry, we can probably get away with having four smaller options surrounding them.
Lets be realistic here. The ball will probably spend a lot more time in Richmond's front half. Extra reinforcement and intercepting ability down back is probably going to be more valuable to us than a one off pack mark in the goal square.
All this means is we have another resting mid play across half forward. Just seems to be the simplest and most logical option in my eyes.
Let McGovern play forward IMO.
