That's because you need to understand that this is actually conservative billionaire turf wars - Bishop belongs to Stokes, but Porter belongs to Murdoch. This is Stokes making sure he doesn't lose control of the WA party to Murdoch, by ensuring Porter isn't able to save himself with a jump to a seat he can win.

Porter is an egomaniac he doesn't belong to anyone, he just looks after no.1. The WA party is controlled by the churchies + Cormann + Collier has been for the past 5 years. Nothing to do with dueling billionaires or anything so fancy.

On Hidding in Tasmania - he's a member for Lyons (one of the five). The seat will go to a recount which will be won by one of the other Liberal candidates for that seat. However, the Liberals currently only have 13 of the 25 MPs in the house. One of those is the Speaker. It's not clear that Hidding's replacement will be in Parliament before Parliament next sits. Libs have said they'll ask for a pair but Labor have not said whether they'd give one. If it were me, I would not grant a pair under these circumstances.

Idea for a headline: Convicted Racist Defends Convicted Child Rapist

He could have Abbott as a special guest to remind us about that time he told Tony Jones that his life might be more interesting if he spent more time with Cardinal Pell.

The Liberals will forever regret not having Julie Bishop as leader and Prime Minister of Australia especially at international level, because with India and Pakistan inching ever closer to a full scale conflict for only the third time since 1947, Bishop would’ve been the ideal person to defuse tensions between the two countries.

How? By rocking a stylish dress?

She was a decent FM Gough.

I dont like her as a person, but she did what we expect of all FM's- not to embarrass us on a global stage and represent us to the world

I think you overestimate her abilities

What did she represent us as?
She did an exceptional job as FM during the MH17 crisis. She handled the Russians with a degree of sophistication which contrasted directly with the Mad Monk's threat to "shirtfront" Putin.

She had to be moved to the safe and cushy Foreign Affairs role in the Libs because she was horrible as shadow Treasurer.

She has MANY friends in the media and so received glowing reports.

Over her support of Israel ?

Seizing on reports that Liberal deputy leader Julie Bishop told a Jewish community forum in Melbourne last month an Abbott government would always vote against UN resolutions critical of Israel, Foreign Minister Stephen Smith said she had shown an ''an immense lack of judgment''.

Such a change could see Australia voting against resolutions put to the General Assembly each year calling on Israel to respect the Geneva conventions governing the rules of war in the occupied Palestinian territories.

And Julie Bishop would be the ideal person to act as mediator between India and Pakistan, in an attempt to defuse tensions between the two countries before things get any worse. Remember, India and Pakistan fought in 3 wars since British independence in 1947, the last war in 1971.

Hmmm...

https://www.smh.com.au/politics/fed...d-tv-ads-under-new-rules-20190227-p510mb.html

The Morrison government will allow MPs to use millions of taxpayer dollars on television and radio advertising for the first time, in a move it says will enable regional and rural MPs to communicate with voters more fairly.

Special Minister of State Alex Hawke confirmed he has overturned regulations that prohibit MPs using their $137,000-a-year, taxpayer-funded office budgets for television and radio ads – which takes effect immediately, in time for the election.

In other words, the Libs' election fundraising is going really badly (not surprising - nobody wants to back a loser), so now they're allowing MPs to rort their electoral budgets to pay for party political advertising. If you can't get the money legally, change the rules to give yourself access to a bucket of funds which is normally off limits!

Yep that was my thought. They don’t have Turnballs cash anymore....

Interestingly, Labor has said that they'll force MPs to re-pay any money spent on electoral advertising - if (when) they're elected. I'd love to see these tossers handed bills for $200k after the election!

She didn't get moved, because the leader of the nationals gets to be the deputy PM, as an alternative reward the deputy leader of the Liberal party gets to pick their portfolio before anyone else, and she chose foreign affairs.
