Early days yet but so far the new rules have not affected scoring. The average score for a team has been 73 points. In the six games played only one side has passed 100 points. Only one player has kicked more than four goals. I like the new centre bounce rule but I would have thought it would have resulted in higher scoring. Maybe the Coaches and players have not yet worked out how to use the extra space created?

It is interesting that in yesterday's press Ken Hinkley reflected on 2018 and said we did not score enough and that our average score was around 70 points. So far that is around the average for twelve clubs.

Fagan's a good coach and the recruitment team's done a good job in bringing in talent like Neale and Cameron. I had heard that Neale wanted out of Freo but never thought he'd wind up at Brisbane. They also seem to be doing a better job in retaining their better players.

In all seriousness, one of my West Coast mates is devastated that they lost Lycett, thinks he's underrated and a big part of what they were able to do last year.

I reckon Lycett was massive for us yesterday. I agree he's underrated. He's become such a solid, reliable player. And as a bonus, he'll extend Ryder's career. Thrilled to have him.

Not the worst thing i've ever seen. Bog standard niggle for mine. I'd be happy if one of our players got the free kick turned over doing that. Loved seeing Josh Carr, Damien Hardwick doing that sort of shenanigans back in the day

Nah, kicking a guy from behind on the ground isn't cool.

The guy who should be reported is the umpire who was right there. Even if he didn’t see the kick in the back it’s not hard to see that Gardiner walked up behind Ryan who was on the ground and deduce that he did something and then what was an obvious flop.

That ump should be getting a week off. Gardiners flop was embarrassing to the game. Sure niggle. But kicking a player in the back then dropping like that is stupid.

If I was west coast fans tho I would be livid that none of the players remotely remonstrated nor even looked like they cared. I couldn’t even say they were awake. That few seconds of footage makes me wonder whether west coast even are going to be in it this season or switch off because they won a grand final. Maybe that’s too much to read from that but yeah.

1 game has been played.

Too early to talk in averages.

The low scores aren’t because of 666,

It’s because of the kick out rule.

Teams are clearing their defensive 50 much easier.

I don’t have the stats but I bet the amount of time the ball spends inside 50 is down massively. Meaning it’s spending more time travelling between the arcs.

I’m reasonably happy with it too as the repeated stoppages inside 50, and rushed behinds and rushed over boundary plays were one of the more boring parts of our game.

Yes, what we need is more umpires guessing... sorry, deducing.

Sometimes an umpire will report just as a preventative measure to a melee. I reckon that is what has happened here. If it gets thrown out then no biggie.

Yeah the kick out rule has stopped defensive 50 turnovers a lot instead of a 7 point play the ball is just getting to the wings

If an umpire couldn’t tell that Gardiner instigated that and then flopped they shouldn’t have a job.

You don’t need to guess that Gardiner flopped. Ali has hit people and they haven’t exploded backwards. The only place you see that is action movies lol.

If an umpire can not tell that is a flop he isn’t good enough to umpire

If an umpire isn’t smart enough to consider that Gardiner standing over a sitting player who then jumped up probably instigated it then he isn’t good enough to umpire.

One of the first things every single footballer is taught.

The retaliater always gets caught.

Number two, the AFL is cracking down on all kinds of strikes no matter how soft, it's round one, the ump would get a severe talking to if he didn't report it.

Yeah he went down like he was hit with a 303 but Ryan’s actions are going to get him reported every time.
Like it or not that’s just the way it is.
