On a positive note, how long has it been since we've had a debutant have as much impact on a game as Parker?

Our pre season was 2 wins against more fancied opposition. Then we went into rnd 1 with our 2 best backmen out and arguably our best player a last minute inclusion ( Steven) after mental illness issues.
If anybody can find a negative in that win they can GAGF as far as I'm concerned.

I think we got a few things very wrong today.

Selection was terrible. Acres Marshall both in next week for me. But Marshall comes in and works in tandem with Pierce.

I thought after half time we got the mix wrong of slow and quick ball movement. This should iron out in the next few weeks

Lets give the depressing talk a rest. It's Round 1 of a new game plan and the rust was definitely on show.

If it becomes a pattern, sure, heap shit on them.

Otherwise enjoy the win! We didn't get too many of them last year.

the great thing about parker, which makes me think we have a beauty here, is how much everyone at the club has embraced him. not only those at the club, but the supporters. we've really wrapped our arms around him.

Thought Pierce, Joyce and Dunstan struggled.
Lonie still fills like an “almost player”, had moments but failed to impact consistently.

As a team, conditioning didn’t seem like a strength as was promoted by the club. Went back to our old ways under pressure. Forward pressure dropped off in the second half. With long up the ground a lot it felt we were 1 pressure player short. Kent’s pressure wasn’t noticeable and Lonie’s seemed down as well.

Feels like we lack drive out of the back half as well. Hind would be the one to try but not sure who to leave out. Geary was the small who struggled the most in the backline imo.

Next week;

Out: Pierce, Joyce, Dunstan.
In: Marshall, Brown, Acres

Kent had a really poor game but did manage a couple of amazing things.

That kick into Gresham from outside 50 was unreal. I was pissed he ignored the leading player and blazed away until the ball hit Greshams tit.

And that goal from the boundary, beautiful.

I'd like to bring a few players in but as disappointing as we were no one really stands out to get dropped.

Marshall for Pierce would be my first.

Brown comes in to free up one of Battle or Wilkie to be the third tall, bit do we drop Wilkie? I though he was okay. Mckenzie started off nicely but was extremely poor in the second half.

Acres needs to come in to give us another option through the midfield.

Parkers going to do some stupid things throughout the year, but I hope the coaches don't stifle his natural flair.
The players will pull him up if he goes crazy.

personally i'd drop battle for brown. keep joyce in. i think dunstan stays in as long as we dont have hanners or armo fit and firing.

on pierce i'd probably drop him just to draw a line on performance. bring in marshall.

acres is a hard one... not sure who i'd drop. maybe kent?

Trust me Essendope are overrated shitness personified, and with a few more players back we can roll those cheating turds for sure!
Plenty to work on.....But we got out of jail and i'm content!

We got the win.
Good effort by the defensive team especially Wilkie and Joyce.
We panicked in the 2nd half and went away from the slowing of play. Interesting to see the frustration from players when a teammate rushed.
There was definitely a change in plan just need to work on it.
For those talking about fitness. 1st game of the season- JLT doesnt count - on a 30 degree day. Got through without any major injuries at this stage.
Would like to see Clark in but cant be for Dunstan. Not at this stage, doesn't have the body for the in and under work. Which means he takes a wing and I thought the wings were ok. Marshall probably gets a crack now as Pierce wasnt up to scratch.

For the love of God can we get a response from the AFL on the umps. We won most of the key stats but had 9-10 less frees?
