Highlight: Tex! Cops it more than any other player in the history of the game (name another) and turned it on, even with some calling for him to retire after the first half. Has carried a massive burden at this club with everything that has happened at the club and at home for him. So kudos Tex, the haters can eat a bag of choads. Those fend-offs gave me a bar Superman couldn’t bend.

UGLY: The Crows supporters last week with their " 20 years of metiocrity" " I've lost my faith in Don Pyke"

You know who you are, go support Port, that is your mentality. I mean, get upset for a day or two and then re set but a whole week of that shit...go **** off, you aren't being smarter than the coaches and the playing group, you're just being more dramatic than a 14 year old girl on facebook who has been ignored by a boy she likes. Really pathetic...

It wasn't a great performance, but it was an improvement on last week so hopefully the boys are just finding their feet with system tweaks and skills.

best sign for me was the entries into forward 50 were mostly better (a few players guilty of dumb bombs still)

I stand by my comments re Tex in the second quarter.

His other three were great quarters.

When he attacks the ball things happen. Yes we lost contested possession in that second quarter. But he also played meek football. We still generated I50s. But he had no impact on any of them. The other three quarters he attacked the ball. That is the real Texan.

Controlling a game for most of it (sans second quarter) was also a great outcome. Great teams control games.

Things I was wrong about after round 1:

- Tex isn't cooked... yet. Moved well and hit the scoreboard. More confidence in his game and he could do alright this season
- Murphy isn't useless. He's actually important. Brought his pressure game and I thought he was really good
- We do learn... a little bit. Forward movement was better and liked some of our entries.
- Mackay playing wasn't the worst decision in history. He was acceptable.

Things that were good:

- Built some confidence in our skills. Our disposal was significantly better
- Douglas not playing in the forward line really helped
- Won in a grind, which we rarely do
- Gibbs wasn't nearly as bad
- Aside from a few issues with Buddy I thought our defence was strong
- Much better in the air forward of center. Actually won some contests for once

Things that are still concerning:

- Jacobs is still cooked. Really cooked. Doing nothing around the ground and seems to be really lumbering.
- Struggled in front of goals again. Wasting opportunities could cost us
- Sydney aren't very good. Can we play that way and beat a better opponent?
- Jake Kelly sucks
- Jenkins performance in the first two quarters and a half was not good. Wasn't playing from in front and struggled
- Lynch was awful again. Struggling with heavy attention.
- Struggled finding space and run at times. Again, will that work against better teams?
- Not convinced Ben Hart knows what he is doing. Think a lot of our scoring opportunities came from individual brilliance rather than structure

Reasonably comprehensive win given our poor goal kicking. Only ugly is Sauce, he’s done but will get carried all year. Bad is probably Chayce fluffing a couple of opportunities, but still happy with how he went. Mackay was excellent, even some non-disposal stuff, like getting a hand in, went our way. Basically the opposite of what normally happens. But like last year, I wouldn’t get carried away with this SCG win, Swans might be terrible, it’s hard to know yet.

Maybe you just weren't pretty enough

I agree with most of this, but think you're way too harsh on Jake Kelly. For the 5th or 6th best defender in our side he is acceptable.

May have been an ugly win but 4 points is all that matters

Gutsed it out & liked how we replied to each of their goals in the last.

Good:

The four points, and another game under the belt. Slowly shaking the rust off. Hartigan actually played well. Tex and Jenkins played well. Brad Couch. Sloane.

Bad:

I think we had an armchair ride from the umpires, and Sydney were very ordinary. Really not convinced we'll win next week.

Ugly:

Keath was ordinary. Mackay played well meaning he's cemented his spot for another four years.

1-1

Now we can start the season over again and hopefully do it properly this time.

Not sure what to make of the game. Sydney were beyond deplorable. We were better than them. The umpires were our best friends - amazing.

There were glimpses of good stuff thankfully.

I said this in the off season that I had watched a lot of Crows highlights and I was amazed by the amount of absolute cracking goals Mookay has scored in his time but tonight added another.

It may not be even close to a true reflection of the player I saw, but kids seeing highlights in the future will think " gun player, can see how he got to 250 games"

Of course, you don't have to worry, I have dude316 Benny Hill Mookay V Melbourne shenanigans to put it into perspective but geez, him and Jenko kicked a couple of clutch goals in the last

Okay, I’ve been banging on about putting Jenkins into 1st ruck for 3 ****ing years.

Can everyone just admit when he went into the midfield for more hen 2min he played his best footy of the game? and then kept playing substantially better afterwards?

I’m pretty sure he had more contested marks in 15 mins as 1st ruck then he had in 2 seasons as FF/2nd ruck
