Autopsy Hawks fall in a heap against the Dogs - Rd 2, 2019

10 mins into the last quarter when we were still three goals odd up and I said to my Doggie friends at the game they would win.

We were out of gas and they had all the run.

My Mrs wasn’t at the game as was messaging me Clarko was losing it in the box and I can understand why. We looked gone three goals ahead and it’s not that big a surprise we lost. We were gassed hard. Our midfield is pretty raw and was out of legs. C’mon I’m disappointed hard as well but we are a young side, it’s going to happen. I really don’t know what else to say because I’m trying to make myself feel better as well. We just have to be patient. My only criticism of this group is that when we are gassed like we were I don’t want to see us flood back and we didn’t. But what I’d like to see is some kind of tempo footy at least. They are young but so what we can still train that.

Between the whingeing about umpires, there's some good analysis in here. Agreed with Clarko that we'll rue letting the game slip when it was ours, and that the four quarter contribution wasn't well-spread this week BUT also I think there were positives:

- Scully got through and made a workman-like contribution, he will get better as he gets fitter and more confident.
- Ricky Henderson had his best game for the club, did everything well, lifted his teammates, thought he was superb.
- Jaeger and Worpel are forming a great partnership. Worpel is my hero, such a gutsy and instinctive player.
- Scrimshaw looks right at home out there. He was even moved on-ball for a spell. Very composed and skilful.
- Forward line still works very well if we can get it in there. Gunston, Breust, Poppy and Rough still a very formidable combination.
- Defence was stoic again. Their work in the first half was incredibly disciplined, but they couldn't hold up once our midfield fell over.
- Injuries are hopefully short-term and should give opportunity to Dylan Moore as a forward/mid.
- Wingard is coming.

Unfortunately Sicily has got his reputation now and cannot retaliate any push and shove in any manner. The free kick was ridiculous, not sure what Sicily can do, a player can do almost anything to Sicily but he cannot retaliate. Next week we have the masters of the niggle, will be interesting to see what transpires.

Move him forward and let him win us the game.

I just hope the AFL come out and say what the rules are regarding this pushing nonsense. Everyone needs clarification with it, and the sooner we all have it the better, and the sooner all teams are umpired the same the better.
Don’t hold your breath. That shit only happens when we’re the beneficiary, or they’ll come up with some BS justification that it was all good.

The umpiring was bad, sure, but it wasn't as bad as our geelol game from last year. I still get hives thinking about it.

What would happen if Hawthorn/Richmond/Collingwood/West Coast/Adelaide/Fremantle and Port all came out and said Jam your equalisation rules, we are not funding dogs box clubs like the dogs whilst the officiating is inherently in favour of them... it’s a disgrace that the only reason they are around is because of handouts, yet they also get and have been getting the best free kick for ratio for years.

The AFL could do bugger all.

Clarko didn’t say anything which I’m disappointed about, he could have firstly whacked the players but he should have made a point about the officiating. I’d be utterly disappointed if JK didn’t unleash... does anyone know his next media commitment?

This. He was absolutely electric at times. Form permitting, he could keep playing. But the body is packing it in now. Such an all timer.
Don't mention it mate they will come after you. Two soft tissue injuries last year said as much but some don't want to see it. Its hard as he has been great.

Smith needs a serious talking too by Clarkson and co also as his head getting a bit too big. No doubt a great running player and long kick but still grates me a little two years ago with his cheeky, confident grin against Geelong, only to kick a point in the final then has a shot a year later to do the same thing. Now demanding the footy from Cousins who not long earlier kicked a beautiful, long set shot. Time to PULL YOUR HEAD in boy and be thankful you were even given a chance at league footy by Clarkson from North Ballarat. You are not Captain material and start doing the team things or fu.. off back to Ballarat.
Harsh comment to be honest, but the thing I would like to see from him isn't finishing from around the 50m arch which is just the jam in his game but more run and carry from defensive 50, without it we are just static. More meat and potatoes and less jam for me.

Guys, the umps were bad but we gave up 9 goals in the end. Maybe I'm not taking it as hard because I feel like the loss will help us more that hurt us but our defence needs to be looked at. Sicily needs anger management, clearly.
Sicily did nothing wrong I was watching, dogs were pursuing him push push push, he pushed back, no hiting just stupid umpiring.

As I suspected to, no Dogs supporters at the game.. There was more Hawks at Adelaide oval last week than the G today, absolute backyard rabble club.
Don’t know where you where but I heard quite a cheer after they hit the front from the gifted goals. Although it was amusing at one stage when there was hardly a sound after a goal. They’re usually reminded when to cheer back at Marvel.

That Impey one in the first half was the beginning of the end of us

Wonder if this will get paid every week from now on ?

I didn’t see the game but if a free kick was paid for that then that ump needs to be relegated , if that happened to my team I’d be furious.

Really not enjoying the click bait Herald Sun blaming the loss on a "brain fade" by Sicily. If it was by Essendon the article would have been about "umpiring scandal". Never let the truth get in the way of selling papers.

Just had a chance to have a close look at the decisions in the last quarter on vid -been in the game for a bit and the Worpel infringement in the centre circle I personally have never seen given before - bewildering and then the Sicily infringement 2 minutes later was one of the worst decisions I have ever seen and considering the time of the game these decisions were made and the momentum these decisions created for the dogs it cost us the match. Not happy.

Surprisingly the commentators were also scratching their heads and a few of the infringements, the Worpel one especially saying they didn't even know it existed.

The also said something along the lines of the Bulldogs being given the rub of the green and scoring three goals in four kicks.

If those mentally challenged muppets have picked up on it, surely something wasn't right?

While I don't usually encourage Sicily flipping his lid, who could blame him yesterday?

Was a dead set rubbish call and I'm glad he called the umpire out on it, he just needs to do it in a way that doesn't run the chance of penalising the team further.

I am probably going to protest with my feet (or eyes) and not watch any games this week. AFL fans can complain all they want but if they keep tuning in the AFL gets away with it. I have had family members in recent time switch the game off because it is an aberration of its former self, I now understand.

I was in the souther stand behind the goals, right where they all were. We looked around the ground and there was literally nothing but brown and gold, then I went down to grab a beer and could see them all behind the goals on the lower levels. Up until the last quarter you couldn't hear them, our supporter turn out was pretty good, I expect to see a few more Dogs supporters there which was disappointing.

We have been stitched with time slots and teams we play, we have another Salvo club this week so no doubt the same will occur.

I'll also say this, the NRL has recognised the negative impact officiating has on the game and this season their penalties have been reduced substantially, I have been really enjoying watching some of the games because of this. The AFL should take note.

This is the type of thing I'm looking for out of these games. All things considered, I'm taking this game as a bit of a write off.

Henderson going from strength to strength, Scully's athleticism on return and Scrimshaw continuing to improve are all strong positives.

So out of this game, what do we do?

I don't believe we drop anyone, even though some players did under perform. Two outs through injury is already about the limit of how much Clarkson likes to mix things up. Wingard comes back in as a like-for-like with Burgoyne, and perhaps a Dylan Moore or Harry Jones to fill in the midfield. It does make our midfield unit very young though.

For all the shit he gets on here and mostly deserved, even a drunk can see what went on yesterday was strange.

Also I guarantee that if you have the behind the goals vision you will see the exact same thing (as Sicily free) at the other end of the ground.

Any one of the multiple vs frees that the dogs got could have gone to Hawthorn. Impy, Sicily, O'meara were all pushes going both ways.

Umpires were looking for frees to give to the dogs. No doubt in my mind. Bad umpiring is making a few wrong calls. Biased umpiring is making many soft calls all in 1 direction and not paying any of the soft or even blatant frees the other way.

Well, I don’t know what it was about the Southern Stand end but that’s we’re all the scoring happened. The wind must have been blowing pretty hard at field level.

It was a disappointing loss. We were continually beaten to the loose ball, bar half the first and most of the third (when we were going to the southern stand end). It was really bad on the kicks up the line. Somehow WB always had one or two men free for the spill from the long kick. I don’t know what was going on but their midfielders were running into position much more vigorously than ours. Frustrating.

I won’t bother with the free kicks because we were outworked, particularly in the last. I think there is a lot to learn from this and some strength/endurance needed. We’ll be much better as the season wears on.

It’s a big load for these you midfielders to carry right now. And with birders and shield out then the demands will get higher. I think we’ll see the small forwards rotating in more.
