Its too many players. When you have 4 ins, people need to go out, unfortunately. Unless those INS aren't gonna be the final ins?

Those 4 players that have come in are clearly just there to fill the sunday match squad's that are needed. Unless something happens at training tomorrow i expect all 4 to go straight out.

4 good players that could be emergencies. Happy with the line up. The only change I would have made would have been Lukosius for Young (if he is fully fit). But don't change a winning team. If Lukosius has another quiet week may be worth giving him a spell in the 2's to get some confidence up.

Very rarely do 18 year olds play the first games of the season, especially young key position players, only the absolutely outstanding ones do, and they are usually smaller players. The kid looked gassed in the 4th quarter and offered very little late on. He has had a taste of it, played in a win, let him work on his craft and dominate in the 2's for a bit.

While we are playing in games we can get wins in and are reasonably fresh I would be playing all the mature players who will contribute 4 quarter efforts.

If a kid wanted to up and leave after not playing in round 3 then that isn't the type of bloke we want, if we are just playing 18 year olds, because they are 18 years old that isn't the way they go about it. Ballard and Powell only played those games because our injury list was awful, Powell has only improved now because he has that 2nd pre-season under his belt. Those couple of games he played last year gave him a look at it, but he wasn't ready either.

100% disagree. If hes not the best player for that position he shouldn't be playing. develop in the 2s until he can displace someone. giving games breeds entitlement. no real evidence that playing in the ones is any better for development than playing in the 2s, so why gimp the first side.

most first year players are making up the numbers and only there to validate draft selections/ keep supporters/boards happy. Very few (across the whole league) actually hold a place on merit. (unless their team is cruelled by injury)

Again just look at NEAFL team , how many big body were there to guide the kids against Men , people keep mention because of injuries Powell play.i understand NEAFL is a lower division league but you still need experience players there to guide them and protect them.

There’s no way we can continue to play him in the Ones. It will destroy his confidence and unsettle others who are playing better in the Twos who should be promoted. At this stage there’s no one in the Twos putting their hand up so Jack is probably safe.

He just appears to lack the strength required at present but that will come with more press ons in the gym. Hawthorn have never had any problems letting players develop in the Reserves, why should we. Gives them time to physically and mentally mature.

That was fair , but do you need to keep talking about his weakness where Sam Day , Holman , Young , Corbett ,Leslie all have interrupted pre season . Holman and young last year did a full pre season , this year Holman not even playing JLT because of injuries . The same shit thing said about Ballard and Powell that they are without strength,small ,wind blows him away and disposal , go and read your last year post on Ballard/powell debut .
Look at Geelong constable , Miers last year they have GHS , Murdoch guide them in VFL, you can't complain about injuries if you play a forward /back line of nutting , Ben king , lukosius , Koenan and Graham in NEAFL with only Sam Day and Leslie as senior players .

For the record, I wouldn't drop Lukosius, — he's spent plenty of time in a superior competition (SANFL). Whilst the idea of developing kids in the NEAFL is nice, it's a backward step for Luko, and would be for Rankine too. They're good enough, let them find the speed of the game.

That was fair , but do you need to keep talking about his weakness when Sam Day , Holman , Young , Corbett ,Leslie all have interrupted pre season . Holman and young last year did a full pre season , this year Holman not even playing JLT because of injuries .

Interesting that people don't talk about his strengths - understands and reads game well, one of the best kicks already on our team, makes good decisions, he actually has a good tank (one of his strength in scout reports) and should be a running machine in a couple of years. He actually lowered eyes and delivered I50 on a couple of occasions. Yes, he was average/below average but played his role, could score a couple goals in every game. Stats mean nothing for Dew if you play a role. Wondering what people will say when he scores 3-4 goals which could happen soon. To compare learning in NEAFL vs AFL is a joke. He will develop in AFL much faster.

While I am not opposed to giving him games. My only issue is going with an AFL only development approach is look what it did to Swallow. His body was well and truly cooked for many years because of him being thrown in every week and expected to mix it up with much older and stronger opponents.

Obviously, I am going to back the coach in, if he thinks Lukosius fills a role then I am all for keeping him running around. Just giving an opposing opinion.
