Someone theorised the kid the joker is foricing a smile on in the park is actually Bruce. That never occurred to me once but took the trailer to a whole new level if true.

I got that vibe when watching it too, very possible it is young Bruce. Although that child looked around 8/9 years old, not sure if true but I’ve previously read Bruce is approx 12/13 in this film.

I have an interesting fact about the movie "Shazam" and also two questions.

The interesting fact is, back in the early days, the hero wasn't actually called "Shazam!", that was just the word Batson used to become the hero.

His superhero name originally was....wait for it....CAPTAIN MARVEL!

It's true. I remember seeing an old cartoon when I was a kid where he was called "Captain Marvel" and people incorrectly called him "Shazam" when that was just the word used to make Batson Captain Marvel.

However, Marvel sued DC, saying that "Marvel" was copyright, and that DC couldn't use the word "Marvel" for one of their heroes. Marvel won, and created a female hero whose identity was Carol Danvers.

The DC "Captain Marvel" was then afterward known as "Shazam!"

What an irony, that "Shazam" is actually going head-to-head with the movie "Captain Marvel".

Also a couple of questions:-

1) Is the movie "Shazam" part of the DCU? Will this Shazam rub shoulders with Batfleck, or Gal Gadot Wonder Woman, or is it in a seperate universe altogether? Tonally, it seems far apart from the rest of the DCU films.

2) What happened to Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson playing supervillian Black Adam? Years ago, Johnson signed to play Shazam's nemesis, yet in the recent trailers, he is nowhere to be seen. Does anyone know what happened with that?

1) Yes, though I doubt you will see any real crossovers because the tone is too different.
2) Once Dwayne Johnson signed on, they realised they could make some money off a Black Adam movie, so they pulled him from early drafts of Shazam.

Black Adam will either appear in the sequel or a separate stand alone. He was clearly referenced in Shazam however, a nice little nod towards him.

Saw Shazam and loved it. Sign a movie is decent when they don't show the best bits in the trailer. The trailer does indicate its pure cheese though when the balance of humor in the film is pretty good and further to that, backstory was pretty solid in it's own right.

Much funnier than I was expecting too.

the moments at the “gentleman’s club” was gold. “How’d you spend that money so quickly??”

“They were very convincing!”

And then later on Darla saying “oh is that glitter, I want some!”

“Not from them” :D

So folks that have seen Shazam... Will it be OK to take my 7 (almost 8) year old.. Going off the previews he is super keen but I'm now wary about it

I took my six-year-old (only learning late it was M). He's pretty canny for a six-year-old, I prepped him, but he still got pretty scared towards the end and said he wanted to go home. Stuck it out and said he liked it overall. But my instinct is there's a scene mid-film that's really not suitable for under about 10 and the monsters are pretty scary at times. I guess it depends what he's watched up to now.

Ok seen Shazam.

Definitely the best put together film in the DCEU.

Thoroughly enjoyable. Had a great time with it.
(But what is it with DCEU and ps3 like cgi fest monsters?)

Seems they are improving with each film it's good signs for WW2 and SS2 (as well as the Aquaman sequal and Flash)

Shazam - Very very good

All the performances were very good

Adult Darla was great at playing the very young child was funny too.

Loved the reveal of all of them getting the super powers

Cavill is a dick for not doing that cameo though

what if it was actually him, but they just couldn’t be bothered dealing with the CGI removal of his moustache:D

Deserves to make alot more than that. As good as Captain Marvel and Aquaman and probably better.

Its kinda is a tricky area for target audience though. Not suitable for very young kids and maybe a bit too childish/silly for some. Hopefully word of mouth keeps it going for a bit.

That’s an excellent debut, a win here for DC Films and Hamada.

A final outcome in the range of $350m+ would be a success, although I thought the numbers from China would be a bit stronger (Aquaman was a huge hit there).

Anyway, it’s quite possible it can edge up towards the $400m mark with its positive reception, word of mouth etc. And a relatively clear run for the next 2-3 weeks before Endgame.

Wonder how Hellboy does. I have a feeling thats going to flop. Shame Del Toro never got his 3rd film.

Yes it hasn’t really grabbed me from the trailers thus far. Not sure how it will fare in the end.

Back to Shazam for a moment, from what I read via Cinemascore, 55% of the audience on opening weekend were aged 25 and above.

Now I’d imagine a large portion of that would be parents with their kids, but also showing there’s still plenty there in this movie to enjoy despite its tone.

Saw Shazam today and thought it was good.

Zachary Levi played a convincing 14 year old in a man's body and his interactions with his foster brother were believable. They did a good job of building the links between the family. The kids did a surprisingly good job in their roles.

It was interesting to see most of the humerous moments were included in the trailer. The movie was a lot darker than the trailers let on. The end cameo in the lunchroom cafeteria was a nice feel good touch.

The post credit scenes indicated that there will be a sequel and Shazam may tie in to the larger Justice League universe.

Yes there’s definitely a sequel. The Rock (who also exec produced this) confirmed last week that filming will begin around this time next year.

The tease of Mister Mind I’d say is the most likely method to introduce Black Adam into this world.
