Caracella is the man at this point in time to turn things around .
Very smart operator in all areas and hugely rated by all senior coaches around .
I think Caracella , +2 , + Mattner is a very good start .

I can just picture the coaches review on the game Monday.
Inside 50 was good because our score percent better
Possession equal
Tackles better
Hitouts ok
McKay a star

No problem. All trending in the right direction.

Keep Pyke and clean out his assistants and get the right people in the right chairs to support him. Campo has been there forever and as much respect I have for him for his efforts in 2015 it’s time to move him on. Think we may need a Walsh type figure head next to him. Not sure who. Maybe a Blight type.

Scott Burns for mine has served a great apprenticeship. 5 years at West Coast, 4 at Collingwood and now at Hawthorn.

That's a tidy resume.

As mentioned above hopefully however gets the gig gets to appoint their own assistants.

I just hope we get someone who isn't afraid to make sweeping changes and understands how to develop a winning culture - which we clearly don't have atm. With the current situation, surely we have the talent to blood and mix in with our existing talent at least give something for a new coach to work with / attract talent ... wow that game was bad just wow.....

If an applicant demands the authority to make sweeping changes, they won’t end up being our coach. They’ll need to slip into the vacant position with a minimum of fuss.

Mackay a better version of his usual 17 touch game but was working at the stoppages there for a bit as well.

And there is the problem. We were appointing assistants before Pyke got appponted so he didn’t get a say on his assistants. I would like to see the assistant go before Pyke and let him start with his own team.

There’s no appetite at board level for that. It won’t happen, but if it does, I’ll be one of the happiest supporters around.

Even Walshy only got to bring in Teague. Campo some how has managed to be there for the last 3 coaches. Same with Clarke all though he’s done a great job wit the girls

I've been a critic of Pyke for a long time and wanted him gone, but recent years have made me reconsider.

I look at Richmond and their coach, who I also have never rated. I look at what they did investing HEAVILY in getting the right assistants under him and the results it bought.

This is the direction I think we need to go with our coaches. Give Pyke more rope, but start treating the role of assistant coach as just as crucial as the head coach and really start to head hunt the very best we can get.

Pyke brings some good things to the table, but you are all right that he doesn't have the complete package. So lets get the people in to round out our coaching roster.

It's time for Campo and company to GTFO and make way for some real, genuine thinkers and leaders.

Aren't the girls largely playing off the same game plan as the 2017 mens team?

Does make you think crows board wants to look good always. No negative press. Guess it will eventually come back to haunt them... Maybe. We are missing outside run....if we are stuck with the same game plan at least fund some recruits that actually have the speed to make it work... Since Cameron's gone Jenkins and Betts look lost.

If we continue holding on to duds like Clarke, Campo and Hart, who cares who the next head coach is? Clarke has been an assistant here for over a decade and Campo isn't far off, without even so much as a murmur of either being offered jobs by opposition clubs during their time here. After a brief, unsuccessful stint away from the nest, Hart returns and was supposedly told to explore his options at the end of last season and then we gave him the forward line coaching gig. Once again, the perfect person for the job was already at the club.

You need a whole panel of competent coaches in this day and age. We have two who are inexperienced at AFL level and three who seem to have just become part of the furniture and are impervious to any fallout from head coach changes.

We'll probably end up with Pyke being sacked, the other two getting jobs elsewhere and the three stooges remaining, ready to **** up the head coaching career of the next poor bastard we hire (Simon Goodwin... bookmark it).

I'd take Bassett without a second thought. While I don't like appointing ex players he is not one of the boys club. He is obviously an opposite of Pyke but I think the club needs someone who is a bit different. I think the best coaches are sometimes a little crazy.

Remember when we got Brett Burton to be the one to shake hands with our draftees on draft night? It might only seem a small thing, but it tells a lot about the club's thinking.

If only we were as dedicated to making the club successful as we are to protecting those at the top.

I understand the Campo, Hart, Birdman calls, but have never really understood why people think Clarke is a bad coach. It's like a self perpetuating theme that gets more traction the more it gets repeated. We've never had a bad ruck department, and he just coached the AFLW side to smash every other side. Jacobs was the best in the competition while his body held up. Reilly O'Brien will be a good ruck. Jenkins is even okay in the ruck. Can anyone actually explain why he's a bad coach without just repeating what everyone else says?

Actually, it was supposed to Walker. He pulled out at the last minute and no else really wanted to do it. Burton basically got told

That's disgraceful if true.

Compare that to Walsh travelling to three states in 24 hours to meet our draftees in 2014.

It was a throw away comment.

I think you're reading too much into it. Burton was probably the least involved from a discussion/decision making perspective of the group that were at the draft

Clarke is the coach that came up with the idea that Sauce should run in and jump early on purpose to put the other ruck off his game. Jacobs mentioned this was a deliberate strategy from the coaches and I don't think it has ever worked effectively. He also taps extremely defensively and hasn't been coached to be offensive - either through tapping far outside the stoppage or grabbing and kicking the ball - although O'Brien does the latter on occasion.

It's also a problem that any coach, regardless of quality, has been an assistant for the 10 (?) years that Clarke has. A turnover of ideas is good with a fast evolving game.

He's not done anything great where he is currently.
