2019 AFL Crowds & Ratings Thread

I thought that this game may end up becoming the highest consistently drawing game behind Anzac Day. It has four massive advantages: always played on a public holiday, always early in the season, the best modern rivalry, and two teams which have consistently been at or near the top of the ladder. However, it seems like I was wrong.

It has been surpassed by Richmond and Carlton in round 1; Essendon and Richmond for Dreamtime; and potentially Richmond and Melbourne for Anzac Eve.

I wonder how it will go when both teams are bottom 4?

Will be a LONG time until both teams are bottom 4 material. Both teams have a great ability to rebuild on the run.

It will struggle to get 80K

I think the MCC are having a lend of themselves at 80K.

75K tops and thats still a very good crowd for a Wed night.
Wednesday night isn’t a factor with public holiday the next day. It’s really like a friday night. It will draw very well. Richmond will bring 45k along. Melbourne albeit with poor form has this marked as a replacement game so should bring 20K. Then there’s probably 15K neutrals. That’s 80,000.

Note how full the AFL / MCC Members are on the night. For example, between the two clubs there’s only about 6-7,000 AFL members in a reserve that holds 21,000. It will be quite full, illustrating this pulls thousands of footy goers. Weather looks good. Expect a great crowd.

Ultimately, despite the intense rivalry they have developed over a sustained period of being near the top of the ladder, they are still only the 5th and 6th biggest biggest Victorian clubs

.
IT will depend on how many Tigers fans out of the 100,000 members turn up.
Melbourne are on the nose with their supporters with their feeble efforts so far this season and could be in for a hiding so Im still sticking with 75k tops.I doubt the match would pick up 15K neutrals for this game They will all be at home on the couch.

Melb and St Kilda could only pull 35k on Sat at the G so where do you get the 20k Melbourne fans from?

Don’t underestimate the interest in this fixture. It drew 85,000 in 2017 which indicates significant neutral interest in this event. I still think the Dees fans will go. I might be wrong. We will soon find out.

As a club I'd rather have the ANZAC eve game than ANZAC day, with the opportunity to play in front of an even bigger national tv audience

Just looked up the TV guide and saw that ANZAC eve night game will be shown on the main channel here in Qld, yet ANZAC day afternoon game will be still on 7mate. Interesting as Pies and Dons have way more fans up here than Dees and Tigers Screenshot_20190423-093927.jpg Screenshot_20190423-093947.jpg

Wouldn't want us Queenslanders to miss "The Chase"

Don't ever recall Channel 7 showing a non-Lions game primetime live on the main channel in the regular season ever. Do remember a live final between WCE and Coll in 2007 that was live but generally even prelim finals get dudded to 7mate here

It's Channel 7 trying to make to Eve game bigger than the ANZAC game.

It’s spectacular at night also.

Despite being a Day game, the ANZAC Day game is the highest rating footy match of the home and away season. If it was at night it would be off the charts! It’s equity is unparalleled and this years match up is possibly one of the most highly anticipated matches in years.

Agreed.
I'm sure Richmond would rather ANZAC Day then Eve.
Every club would be the same.
