As if any other fan base could honestly sit there and say they wouldn’t have booed after some of the controversial free kicks paid or not paid essendons ways. It’s 2019 this is what people do now giving more air time to booing just makes people want to do it more most likely
I’m not sure it was a direct attack on pendulbury either to be honest just frustration from the outcome
I propbably should shut up but it has been around a lot longer than you have. oh the joy of past WAFL games with mounted police escorting umpires off the ground as all rose to boo. The theater and drama.

Sadly the AFL, for money, have tried to make games become ANZAC day - they are just footy games.

How the **** have we reached a point where booing is perceived as an actual issue?

Boo the umpires, why not? All we ever hear is that the Eagles fans boo the umpires and it influences their decisions. If you think that, why aren’t you booing? Don’t you want to help your team win? Why should the Eagles get a free ride when bigger crowds could help get their club over the line? Soft, uninvested fans.

Boo star players, why not? Nobody every booed some list clogger who didn’t do anything to deserve it. No rival fans ever cared enough to boo Ryan Neates. You’re getting booed? It probably means you’re very good and the crowd are trying to throw you. Take it as a compliment and get on with it.

Alternatively you could get all frazzled and go into your shell because the mean crowd booed you, in which case they’ve won and will continue to do so to put you off your game.

God forbid any of these guys played in an opposition stadium in a playoff basketball game. Half the AFL would probably have a breakdown if they had to cop booing like an NBA team in the wrong town cops.

That said I do question why anyone would bother to stick around for 10-15 minutes and sit through your rivals winning presentation just to boo someone after the fact.

I'm not upset by the booing, it just shows up Essendon fans for the classless campaigners they are. Lucky to still have the privilege of playing that fixture and that's how they treat it.

My nephew gets booed at under 14s level, he is perfectly ok with it if the big boys can't handle it time to find a new job me thinks

Whatever you think of booing at the elite level, people who boo kids at under 14s level are the worst.

Agreed, but when your best midfielder is getting cut apart by a ruckman with puppy fat not much else you can do :P

Jesus, I don’t think anyone should be booing kids. That’s pretty poor.

Though yes the point stands, the pros should be able to deal with it. Pro sport can be ruthless, what a crime.

The Philadelphia 76ers or Boston Celtics would kill to be booed like Pendlebury was today. The 76ers have some of the worst fair weather fans going around. One of their blokes was having an off shooting night a week or so ago and the home crowd booed him everytime he took a jumper.

I remember the abuse I used to cop when umpiring under 14s/16s when I was about the same age, nearly all of it from adults. Consistent, personal. It was definitely the norm back then at juniors, but can't imagine that stuff happening these days without people getting pulled up on it.

I do recall one team's coach was so foul I made a point of following it up post-match with whatever officials I could find. Most sheepish looking man I've ever seen when he apologised.

A lot of stuff gets said in a crowd that people wouldn't dare put out face-to-face, with a crowd watching them. I don't mind getting my yell on at a game, but I try to keep this in mind in general. (Same probably applies with online interactions, which is surely a much bigger issue for players than crowd interactions these days.)

John Barnes gave the state of commentary in the game a big whack on Marngrook tonight.

I didn't realise the poor bastard had developed epilepsy at age 42. He obviously feels it is strongly related to concussion. I reckon it is going to be an escalating issue for the AFL... You can see why they are starting to try to get on the front foot a bit more.

I have no issue with people booing during games if they get fun out of it or just want to let off steam. But booing during the medal presentation and especially over the top of the the 2 veterans presenting it was not a good look or feel. The umpires had left already.

Yep, I rember watching some interesting docos on group v individual behaviour
From memory a person visibly in distress or injured was more likely to be helped by a singular person who was not part of a group
Seems group behaviour can become a little lord of the flies ish..

The initial Goodes booing was due to staging etc
Then it became herd behaviour that others then used for their own “holier than thou” political agendas

I would have booed Pendles. The campaigner ducked his head and milked a free kick from an all too ready to oblige umpire.

I saw Howe barrel through bombers players stooping to collect the footy, front on, inside the bombers F50 several times and crickets from the umps.

I also would have booed my own Bombers players too. Complete choke job - all the momentum and just kept kicking it straight to the Pies.

Who do we wish pain upon tonight? I hope Port somehow choke.
Definitely want north to win and not just because I can’t stand port

It’s going to be a very tight season so the more games the sides around us lose the better
