I missed my Broady game today and see they got home in a thriller by 1 point.
I did manage to see the last 2 quarters of the Panthers vs Surfers which was such a even contest with both sides hitting the lead on numerous occasions.
For Surfers I thought Green , Yellard and Prestegar were their best .. must mention C.Haberfield had a ton of possessions but his kicking disposal was very poor creating numerous turnovers .
The Panthers best were Beck, Pendlebury and Mitchell with youngster by the name of Hausfield ( no 46) playing a good game .
Good to see Sandgate managed to kick 12 goals against the might of PBC.
And the Magpies accounting for Labrador whom have been predicted to be the big improvers ,, only round 2 , so I wont comment to much yet.

Sandgate were really good against palmy today. They should have had a few goal lead at quarter time if they kicked straight (pbc were 7 straight at 1/4 time)

As the game were on palmy clicked into gear and broke the game open. But Sandgate will definitely push sides this season

Physical game between cats and me Gravatt yesterday. Plenty of stoppages and strong defensive efforts from both teams. Not much open play. Tricky breeze a factor. As with every 1 point result, the winner a touch lucky, the loser a bit stiff, but I think on balance the cats were just the better side on the day, but kicking 19 points and 3-4 out on full makes hard work of it.

About 1000 I reckon, not too bad for the first go at what we'd like to make an annual event, weather didn't help but definitely a good day for the club.

Well done to grange for trying something different and for bringing on a good performance.

I watched most of the first half on stream and whilst grange were good I’m not sure what the maggies brought to the contest would have beaten anyone.

Unfortunately the cats get them on the rebound

great win by the grange ... what was the size of the crowd

Think the canteen was caught off guard by size of crowd. Always like to support local club bar and food facilities but to wait 25 minutes is a bit beyond a joke.

Must give a wrap to Chris Davies that runs the QAFL competition. I know it's his job but standing in rain with umbrella looking after camera man shows his passion for the game and what they are trying to deliver.

We often give Headquarters a slap but I think most of the Competition Managers do a good job.

Grange never looked in danger and will trouble sides with their size when they put their best 22 out.

At the moment the canteen/cafe is leased out to a private operator so the club has no control over that aspect, but will follow that up.

Footy-wise Grange’s recruiting and development has been pretty low key but they definitely look to have a bigger and more talented group this year, and the coach has everyone on board too.

Nice call, but for the rain the margin would have been even bigger.

Being kind, the Magpies were pedestrian in the seniors, and well beaten in all theee grades.
Good form reversal by Grange after their game against Surfers. Magpies out pressured all game - dread to think what might have happened with the score in the second half if it had not rained. Congratulations to Grange and probably the AFLQ for the football promotion. Only downfall was the lack of canteen food - was told Good Friday regulations applied?????

Gracious response re yesterday’s game, the challenge for Grange will be to bring that effort and pressure every week but the signs at the moment are good.

Good Friday regulations definitely affected things yesterday with all food and drink, we shouldn’t see the same problems happen again particularly when we can operate our own burger/can bars etc on match days starting with the Anzac eve clash on Wednesday night.

By far the best canteen in the QAFL and possibly Australia!
Finding Real food at the Footy was shock...hope more clubs take notice.

Early indications are all teams will be tough to beat at home and a win away will be like 8pts.

No it won’t. I know you didn’t invent it but it’s the worst analogy ever. Can’t imagine any coach saying that to their group or even behind closed doors.

Maybe the 8 point thing is a funny one however the early running suggests PBC are ahead of the rest but Grange, Sandgate and Lab have improved and makes for an interesting comp with closely matched clubs

How it the worst analogy ever?
Coaches often mention it to their playing group and behind closed doors.
A team who wins away and will most likely beat that same team at home is 2 wins which equates to 8points.

shows how compromised the competition has potentially become.

QAFL clubs are forced to play NEAFL guys that drop back first up, even if they don't want to, but can then have 7 changes to their team due to NEAFL selection. I'm not sure all 7 of the reported Magpie changes were forced by NEAFL selections, the easter weekend possibly accounted for some of them but I think anytime you can have 25% of your side turned over at the hands of other clubs selection can't be good and that goes for all clubs

Don't think it made a difference though, by all reports they were pathetic in all 3 grades. For a traditional junior powerhouse, they are stuggling at all levels the Magpies and from all reports their senior side didn't give a yelp and had the cue in the rack early in the 2nd quarter.

Good win by the gorillas last Friday a few probably didn’t expect that.. can they back it up tomorrow night against a fresh Sandgate outfit!

Maybe they have some devout catholics in their lineup who refused to play on Good Friday?
The Neafl issue has been around for a while - nothing new for Broady or Surfers over the years. Suns take plenty when they have injuries. I think you will find Mt Gravatt and Sandgate have had big player changes as a result of NEAFL selection or Academy as well.

Most teams struggled for consistency last year as well if you remember.
