It may have been covered prior in the thread but you just know I ain't wading through 21 pages of Mastdebate for the morsel of info I'm chasing..

Anyone aware of what time the boys fly out for some airport watch action?

Simmo’s press conference has just started so I’d say they’re about to leave for the airport soon.

Willie, Barrass and now Reddog...

If Marsden runs out again this weekend I'll be mightily disappointed.

Would likely mean we're going in with the same midfield HFF structure and once again, playing too many mids.

There's one glaring issue in the team right now, and there's one obvious solution to fixing it. We all saw it coming, we all knew what Gaffs inclusion would mean.

Naming Marsden to play again despite easily being the worst performing mid all year doesn't give me any confidence we're addressing the problem. We need a FORWARD.

Seems Simpson might be happy copping it until Rioli magically comes back to fix his team.

Had to be Vardy and Marsden OUT. Had to.
Couldn't put it better myself.

Hoping they realise this soon, as opposed to not making a decision on the golden one (whom we shall never name again) getting a gig in the middle to the detriment of the whole team.

Redden has avoided a lot of flack from most people here. Has had one good game all year, vs Freo. Other than that he has been well down on his output late last year.

If we're dropping a mid, he's the one on thin ice in my mind. Can easily see him getting the boot in the coming weeks, if any of the mids are dropped for another forward.

I'm probably responsible, sorry Reddo

how the **** mallen doesnt come in for redden is absolutely beyond me

Adding another midfielder isn't really going to solve the issue of playing a mid out of position in the forward line.

And bringing him in to play as a forward doesn't help our already-top-heavy forward line.

Definitely agree. Sheed played his best footy as a winger with stints in the guts, he’s now being shoved to a hff to squeeze in all these midfielders. It shouldn’t be that hard to work out given we have 3 players that can play on a wing. Drop the worst performing one of those for a forward (Venables or possibly Cameron, if we want to be really ambitious, while we wait for Willie) and we are sorted. Can cop it for one more week since Redden is out but if he’s back next week I’d like to see him swapped for Masten.

Both very true. Structurally this brings us closer to what we had last year. Interesting why they chose Venners given he's hardly set the WAFL on fire. Lack of other smalls with Rioli injured and Cameron too green.
This means they probably see MAllen and Sneeze as pure mids this year?

I think so. And Ah Chee's form hasn't been great anyway. He's put up good numbers but there was a lot of junk stats in there, in the first two rounds at least.

Venners played as a pure defensive forward last year, often getting high tackle numbers but low disposals. There is a vital role to play this week as we need to stop Geelong's rebounding Half Backs (Stewart, Thuohy etc).

This is a really important element. The Eagles use a red wing/green wing setup, with Masten having almost exclusively locked up the red wing role for the better part of 2018 through til now.

One of the sneaky best parts of the Friends, Family, Flags video was a clear view of an Eagles lineup behind the scenes, and you can see how defensive they view Masten’s role.

Masten might line up on the wing, but you couldn’t (and shouldn’t) be trying to get Gaff or Sheed to play the same role - it doesn’t play to either of their strengths.

I still think they need to find someone to take over from him but you’re right in saying it’s not as simple as going Masten out of the wing, Gaff to the wing - they’re not comparable playing styles at all.
Yeo is spending a lot of the game ineffectual atm

Why not put him in mastens spot as he is an effective defender, put sheed back in the guts getting it out to shuey - then we have a player with pace, marking ability and can tackle etc playing a more defensive role with sheed left where he is good.
