Not one player so far that had to go to the Gold Coast hub has threatened to Boycott. The Victorian teams haven't even had to travel yet. They can do a six week stint like everyone else. These guys are PAID hundreds of thousands of dollars to play football, they want shorter quarters bigger pay cheques but when push comes to shove they wont leave home for a few weeks. Gimme a break..

Adam Simpson said basically the exact same thing that Cotchin did the other day about hubs ages ago. There was even a detailed article on Will Schofield tossing up whether to boycott the hub - https://www.afl.com.au/news/440588/will-he-or-won-t-he-flag-eagle-still-weighing-up-move-to-hub

My point stands though, there is no end date to this for Victoria. There is no guarantee the hub is 6 weeks like everyone else - once they go home they might need to quarantine again before they can play anyone else. What do you do then?

This is why I'm proposing other solutions, because you can't just rely on it all blowing over in 6 weeks time and returning to normal. If you make all vic clubs join an interstate hub and then after 4-5 weeks they pull a west coast and demand to go home, despite no easing of border restrictions then we're up s**t creek completely.

Why don't the Victorian teams all leave, play each of the non-Victorian teams they have to and then play out the season back in COVictoria?

No club would be on the road more than eight weeks.

Not a bad idea, but you've still got to make sure they're happy with 9 weeks of being away from home (8 interstate teams to play + 1 week of quarantine playing another vic club). So again you're likely to see large amounts of players take issue with that length of time away from their families so might be forced to do it in two blocks where they return in the middle of it.

Or cap it at six and then leave any teams they don't get to till the end of the season.

The rod the AFL has created for their own back is that all the non Vic teams have been playing each other. Victorian teams not being a part of this original hub has been an unmitigated disaster.

WA Premier Mark McGowan has warned players from interstate teams will be kicked out of the state if they breach quarantine conditions while participating in an AFL hub in Perth.

A number of AFL players, including Collingwood's Steele Sidebottom, have found themselves at the centre of recent breaches of AFL coronavirus protocols.

Mr McGowan said anyone breaching WA's quarantine conditions when games begin at Perth Stadium in just over a fortnight would also face prosecution and a $50,000 fine.

He should have just said ‘if these victorians think they can come over here and flout our WA laws and regulations like they do in their home state- they will get a nasty shock!’

Followed by telling them ‘we are taking this seriously, they won’t be able to negotiate their punishment over here’

4 games for Sidebottom is harsh but in proportion to Wines' 1 game.

Can all of you AFL doubters now give it a break for a while. The old, "he'll get a slap on the wrist because he's from a big Vic club" is tiresome and now proven to be a crock.

An interesting sideline- we were told (presumably by Collingwood spin doctors) that he self reported. He may have....after Police put his clothes back on, took him home and someone told him the next day what he'd done. Sounds like he was in no state to remember himself. Some of the penalty may be for this inaccurate spin.

Until they threaten to take the AFL to court and he gets off.

The only thing scary and sobering about that study is that people are still trusting information that comes out of China.

Last few days has been some discussion on overseas travellers. Border Force don't release updated figures to the public see Link.

So here are some delayed stats for April from the ABS.

Overseas arrivals and departures statistics are international travel movements of persons arriving in, and departing from Australia with a focus on short term trips (less than 1 year). It is the number of international border crossings rather than the number of people.
.......

April 2020 original estimates for short-term trips:
  • Overseas visitor arrivals to Australia decreased 99.3% since the previous month to 2,200 trips, the largest monthly decrease on record
  • Australian resident returns from overseas decreased 96.8% since the previous month to 17,000 trips, also the largest monthly decrease on record.

Why was it harsh in proportion to Ollie's breach? Wines wasn't found half naked and drunk on the footpath after a night on the piss in violation of the AFL's COVID 19 rules. As far as Steele Sidebottom's case goes I reckon bringing the game into disrepute might figure in there somewhere.

What do you think Ollie should have got 4 and Sidebottom 1 ?

Not like a man. Just cop it like a person.

Pretty obvious that Sidebottom is being manipulated by the Collingwood Football Club and Eddie McGuire who are issuing statements on his behalf to protect their player.

The story we heard last night is not the story we are hearing now and that is because independent witnesses have come out and told us what they saw. And with the Police Report now public the scramble for a new story is on.

Even now the McGuire and Collingwood Football Club story about what Sidebottom did and why has zero credibility. He woke up and forgot what door was which and so stumbled into the street naked? Absolute utter BS.

And then McGuire has the audacity to claim that the club won't appeal the 4 match ban because they want to do the right thing for footy.

Once again the huge conflict of interest between McGuire the Collingwood President and McGuire the AFL journalist is made apparent.

Utter complete joke of a club and a President.
