Of course. That is true of every AFL club these days, certainly Melbourne among them.

But our origins and our ethos are definitely blue collar.

We welcome diversity though, so it's good to see the likes of D Mitchell here. Your views are always appreciated even if we often differ.

How many other clubs have a University backing them ? Born, bred and raised within a couple of Dave Darcy drop kicks from the Western Oval, when Footscray was really Footscray, it's a bit much when some yuppie/dink from Canberra labels a genuine (former) local true believer a product of diversity. This calls for a letter to the Secretary.

Most clubs have copied us since then, Cats have a relationship with Deakin, West Coast Edith Cowan etc.

Thanks very much, DRB. I thought I'd gotten away with my claim that we are the only club with a Uni backing. Anyway, which Uni backs the now deposed rival private school/university club ?

In fairness, VU is blue collar by University standards. Even the Queen St campus is bluestone up to eye level before the sandstone kicks in.

VU is known for having a high quality sports science department. That's why we are with them. The Dogs are known for a having a good medical team and VU plays a role in that.

Backed by a University, multi $mil profits per annum since Gordon last punched Oakley on the nose and more than half the list from private schools who can afford to live in Footscray. Name me the last player or comitteemanperson, for that matter, who was a member of a Union. Isn't it more accurate to now substitute "gold plated" for "blue collar" as the preferred adjectival phrase ? In reality, the Club is now more entitled to claim to be the club of private schools and universities than Melbourne

VU also has a good psychology department and also their community development was considered quite radical at the time. Kon Karapanagiotidis was a student at VU when he founded the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, of which he is still CEO.

Yep, literally nothing to lose. It's not like he couldn't be a depth KPF option if that was required from him. I just can't see a scenario where he would line up in our forward half if we had a clean bill of health.

Gotta say the big man roster is as deep as I can remember. In my R1 best 22 I'd have:

KPF: Naughton, Ugle-Hagan, Lobb/English
Ruck: English/Lobb,
KPD: Jones, Keath, Gardner

Versatile depth: Darcy, Bruce, Khamis, O'Brien.

Ruck depth: Sweet

Development tall defenders; Busslinger, Cleary, Raak,.

A Ruckman injury arguably stretches us but overall that's pretty solid IMO. 4 depth options who can go forward or back is a healthy position.

This, unless things go pear shaped in a big way for Marra he needs to play and Naughty and Lobb obviously pick themselves when fit. If Bruce can play a role in defence perfect, if not he can quite easily step into the forward line off no preseason up there and contribute if needed.
