Tough gig coaching on the Gold Coast, regardless of the code. Simply it's a graveyard. They should have gone with Southport Sharks from day one. At least they had established support and facilities.

Good luck to the next coach - you would think its Hardwick. It's a very very difficult job but they have got some young guns coming through the draft this year.
The argument against Southport was that they are the Collingwood of the Gold Coast.

Big supporter base, but every other teams supporters hate them, and were unlikely to support them at AFL level.

Fair point.

Does anyone know how many members Southport have? Would be interesting to know if many of their members go to Suns matches. End of the day the Coast is a very difficult place to build a sporting organisation. You are competing with the Titans with a transient population.

Also feel like the people in charge looked at Dew and thought they can't attract players with him at the helm but get Hardwick or maybe Chris Scott they might be able to attract a bigger name player looking for a change of club.

If I had the choice for the Suns with all linked coaches available I'd be opting for Chris Scott, very calm measured coach (except for some tantrums in the game day box) who has been at the most consistent side in the competition over the last 12 years.

The other 2 who should be considered IMO are Hardwick obviously and Nathan Buckley. If they are after a Chris Fagan type Simon Lloyd would be worth a go.

Yep I was told the same thing when I said the same thing about 5 years ago.
Funny thing though, would they have had more success or ultimately more supporters had they gone with the sharks?
At least it was based on an existing local team that is prominant and they have a clubhouse in a great catchment area.

They’re rich as via the hordes of drones visiting their pokie palace. Stuff-all actual football club supporters, though.

A coach for six seasons is long enough for a club that has never seen any success. As long as they have the right coach lined up.
Not sure where the players completely back Dew comes from. Don't they want to have success at some stage of their careers?

I don't buy into the uproar. Dew is an average level coach and if Hardwick is available, you go for it.

I will say though, sacking him after losing to Port in Adelaide is bizarre unless they've got the green light on Hardwick. Would have thought this coming game against the Saints at home would have been a better testing point.

Suns should have never hired over the hill Rodney Eade, set them back a few years.

If they were planning on getting rid of him then there is a chance they beat saints and gws. Chance we pump them in 3 weeks and imo they wouldn’t want to sack him after us. Then it gets a bit late in the season.

So port actually makes a lot of sense.

Alternatively, the Caro stuff which was probably fed by the AFL may have forced more direct internal discussions between dew and the club and that forced their hand. The media scrutiny was only going to ramp up now.

If leaks are coming out of the club they'll never rise up to where they're hoping to go. Can't have that sort of stuff going on if they want to be a successful club.

Sounds like a good clean out in the background needed first...from top to bottom.
Agree with this. Like West Coast the coach is being put up as a scapegoat when there are much broader problems in the background behind the coach

And if you were a highly credentialed coach looking for a new job, why would you want to work for a pack of bare-faced liars?

Would add that for Dimma while it was a few years ago the messy parts of his personal life becoming a semi-legitimate topic of footy media speculation/commentary might mean getting out of Victoria has some appeal.
