Not what I’m saying, all I’m saying is that his set shot goal kicking is not that bad and is above average.

And no one can actually answer my question, because Dixon having a below average conversion rate is clearly an incorrect statement.

Do you think John Butcher was a good shot for goal?

Stats don't always tell the full story.

With Dixon it is probably a combination of him missing a lot in important times/games and him getting a lot of his shots very close to goal due to our game plan (making his misses worse).

His conversion rate is literally below average, what are you on about?

AFL Acc in 2023 = 48%
Dixon 2023 = 52.3%

Now look at comparisons to similar roles and players as him (i.e filtering out trash midfielders who's primary job is not goal kicking). He is, in fact. Piss. Literally almost as bad as Aaron Naughton who is considered the worst in the league lol. He also kicked less goals than most on this list.

On further review...hes even worse than Daniher.

52.3% conversions must mean he kicks a lot more that don’t score at all than I thought but still above the afl average of 48% right?

The AFL average means nothing as it includes all shots on the run, from any player (even defenders). You have to compare key forward set shots to key forwards set shots. Which those stats do. He doesn't stack up well at all.

You also can't compare Dixon to forwards because Dixon is a ruckman who moonlights as a "wrestle on the spot and bring the ball to ground in the forward line" player

He's never actually been played as a forward at Port... except maybe in 2017?

Its way easier for a forward to slot goals when their job is to lead at the ball to a place they want to mark it, then line up and slot it, as opposed to whatever the **** Charlie's told to do all game.

I was probably looking at it more simplistically in that a average score conversion of 2/3 i would've thought would definitely have him in the above average category. You've only given a small sample size of key forwards too. But if everyone in our team had a score conversion of 2/3, we would definitely take that. a score of 20.10 this weekend as opposed to to somewhere like 12.18 to 14.16 for 30 scoring shots would be nice.

No.

I think his scoring efficiency surprisingly was quite good but he had a woeful kicking action.

I don't think Dixon's action is too bad, his routine and ball drop all looks fine to me, but he does have a tendency to kick across and lay back a bit too far, but it's overall much easier on the eye than Butch.

Dixon isn't the world's best set shot but he's hardly the worst. And I don't think he's that bad in the clutch moment either (he put us in front in Q4 of the 2020 prelim with a long range set shot on an angle in the wet).

I'd trust him with ball in hand ahead of Lord, Georgiades and Finlayson.

My thoughts too, the only key forward in our team i'd trust more would be Marshall, but even he got the yips towards the end of last year but that was probably a lot to do with his injuries.

Stats do not tell the full story. He is 100% known to miss important goals, or goals that have pressure attached to them. Like the team, he sucks when it matters the most. Yeah he kicked three in a final (I think?), but he also missed so many easy ones. He's absolute pants with any pressure.

I have a video from the 2017 Elimination final of Dixon 'kicking the sealer'....except he missed, the crowd groans as one and I dejectedly sigh.

My Grandmother naked is much easier on the eye than Butch.

Everything the AFL introduces is s**t. The code succeeds in spite of them, not because of anything they do. Constantly tinkering with things and just making the product worse.

how did we invest heavily in speedier ball movement? we signed 2 key defenders and 2 ruckman yeah? am i reading it wrong?

Dixon's kicking seems to be better now than it was 2016 - 2019.

Similar to Tredders (AND THATS THE ONLY SIMILARITY BETWEEN EM) who improved accuracy as he aged.

His goal kicking is average.

His field kicking is ****ing abysmal, there is nothing more depressing than him getting the ball at half forward flank! You know we’ve lost it.

The only thing that compares is when Wines does his up and under to just inside the 50.
