Autopsy Round 12 - St Kilda defeats Melbourne

I'm really starting to think watching replays only is the supreme way to follow this club.
No more weekends tarnished by the 3 hours I'll never get back.

Anywho, nice to get the W but they basically just gave us a free hit so it has no greater meaning and we are definitely still a shit sandwich.
Some good performances by the kids will do them a world of benefit.

Lastly. If anyone wants to suggest there wasn't 2 sets of rules out there tonight then I've got a bridge to sell you. Eventually, the quantity of data will always tell the truth. The bias is real.
The question is: is it intended?
1. Is it possible that RWB may trigger negative thought patterns? Evidence: Stkilda FC
2. Would the AFL stoop to implemented bias against Stkilda FC? Evidence: 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Happy bye week everyone. We've earned it...

WGAF how far they can run if they adjudicate well. I'll take the blind deaf cripple over this lot
Funny old Razor Ray said the other week the reason umpiring was poor was because they were inexperienced- couldn’t agree more yet they indulged this attention seeker for 2 years when he couldn’t bounce the ball due to a bad back - maybe if they had retired him & had a succession plan the umpiring would be better?

Nar. I've been watching the umpiring turn to dog shit for the last 20 years or more. The ones who broke it are long since departed, and the ones who can fix it are incompetent w***ers with utterly zero interest in the game itself.

Problem with umpiring is that they bring in more to adjudicate (4) due to game becoming faster but that now leads to increased inconsistency due to having more adjudicators ..... maybe going back to 3 is the answer.

Umpiring is hard ... its easy to miss things as you might not have direct line of sight .... I've done it before .... but its the inconsistency between similar acts where the problem lies

Today .... Johnson getting caught and given and eternity to dispose of it and then does so illegally .... no free ..... then a few minutes later Wood getting caught and given zero time to dispose of it and does so legally but gets pinged

Same end ... and you would think same umpire ... just infuriating

2 sling dump tackles .... one paid to Dees ... one not to us ..... same umpire? Not sure but infuriating nonetheless

The inconsistency is the issue

Keen for someone to explain the high ‘bump’ free kick paid against Hunter Clark. He got to the ball first, got hands on the ball, made perfect body position to protect himself but somehow had a duty of care to the player who was second to the ball. If that’s precedent to be followed I fear for the game. That was flat out moronic umpiring.

Is it possible for Owens to build a bigger tank and take over Wood's role on the wing one day?

Reckon he gets lost playing just as a deep forward, he's better when he can roam around and get up on the wing/run back to goal.

Is just insane overhead & in any sort of contest (marking or on ground) for his size.

Him winning marking contests all over the ground makes us better surely

Fantastic win this time. Could praise many but two players will do for now:

Congratulations Isaac!

Ongoing congratulations Callum!
The way you are going, in four or five years you may be up there with Bob Murray, Spud and some others as one of the greatest defenders we've had in 50 or 60 years.
Can I add just one word to describe Cal other than merely reliable, durable, poised, cool, interceptor, leader etc.?

Brilliant!
Or is that too much?

Go back and watch games from 20 years ago, umpiring was just as bad then. They probably just let a few things go but it was still inconsistent as hell. So it's nothing new and some days you get the rub of the green and some days you don't. Today we didn't but we still won.

Hill looked very good I thought. I noticed he seemed to be getting a lot of touches in our back half. His skills looked tidy and his running was as good as it always is. Not sure if he was playing wing or as part of the defensive line. Hill isn't going to all of a sudden develop a contested game. He's always been a runner. If he's not making critical errors he's a valuable player still.
The thing about Hill is if the team is playing well, he will often be good.

But if the team is having a bad day, he will never be the one to lift and turn it back our way. Plus he will often look horrid.

If we as a team can improve and play well regularly, then Hill becomes a very good asset.

Caminiti really settling into the key back role, a little under the radar, but todays game:

17 disposals (14k, 3h), 94% disposal efficiency, 8 marks, 100% TOG. Slowly building into the role in his 2nd season as a 21 year old.

Reminiscent of when we decided Battle was a key defender and stopped mixing him up from forward, back, forward, back. Hopefully he has a similar trajectory!
Well except the part where he leaves to go to Hawthorn. ;)

Does Wood win contested ball all over the ground?

Congrats Saints.
Response to the AFL world..! Yes! Yes! Yes!

Footnote
If ever we need a reminder not to sell a home game for some $$$ again, Melbourne gave us one today.

Oh, and bring back the old emblem. Seeing all the fans with it on, reminds me.
I won’t wear any St Kilda gear with the new logo. While it’s not as bad as I thought it was going to be, I still don’t like it at all. It’s a weird shape, and I don’t buy that we needed to update it.

Updating logos is the sort of shit that marketing teams do to justify their existence. Never useful.
