Future looks bright with Ginnivan, Watson and Ward all rising to the occasion. Could Watson be a 60 mid / 40 fwd next year?

We might be able to beat some sides above us, but overall, 8th is about right with the midfield we’ve rolled out all season.

Day, Weddle and fingers crossed someone else into the side and we are completely transformed.

We can beat GWS next week. Huge questions over our ability to perform at the highest level week in week out though. Must improve the list over summer. MUST.

The result is accurate to where we are at. A step or so behind the top teams.
Our only A grade midfielder on the sidelines but we need a serious upgrade in the levels of class in the mids regardless.
Lots of workers, but need game breaking types.
The fumbling was killing us tonight.

I think this game showed why we need an A-grade midfielder.

Lions without Neale just beat us up and made us look average. The difference in class was stark. Ashcroft and McCluggage would burst out and hit targets while Worpel would fumble, overcommit then turn it over. It’s not just him - our entire unit just wasn’t good enough.

Our backline was solid although saved by inaccuracy. Our forwardline is potent but inconsistent.

We’ll now have to travel the entire finals series, and although we’ve been competitive in all of them we haven’t beaten a top 8 side interstate.

We’re a tier below the best teams.

I like the new rule where you handball out of bounds aiming for a teammate it’s deliberate. In the D50. When you’ve got three players free. Great rule.

The margin flattered us. Perhaps its best we attempt to go the long way around this season. Not because it gives us a chance to win it but maybe it will get a couple of finals into the squad and steel us for when we are ready to really challenge (hopefully 2026 with a new midfield).

I know we lost, and now we have to go the long way if we want to make a grand final, but I am bloody proud of the way that they kept fighting all night. Things definitely didn't go to plan and Brisbane at times looked like they would get on a roll and blow us away but we kept coming back time and time again.

We lacked the class and composure of Brisbane, but the heart we showed tonight on the road means that absolutely anything is possible if we can fine tune a few of those things.

Said it all year - we are an A+ midfielder away from winning (in addition to Day being fit) - we are not winning a premiership with Worpel being our number 2/3 mid.

We can make a prelim this year but we can’t play Lewis
