With the Saints interest for Ryan and several players Are they just throwing darts or Shuffling the deck chairs on the titanic.
Having to do multiple deals with multiple clubs to get players who may get more money than some of their loyal players. How many do they have to lose to get all their targets.
Saints have a gun with no ammo at the moment.
Lyon has already mentioned he doesn't want clubs coming for his players.
I really don't care if Ryan goes or stays but they don't have a pick in the sweet spot at the moment.
I don't think we should take unders so that they can offer other clubs what they want

Hypothetical:
Eagles trade Liam Ryan and pick 11 (currently) to St Kilda for pick 7 (currently).
Eagles trade Picks 2 and 19 to Gold Coast for picks 6 and 12.
This leaves us with Picks 1, 6, 7 and 12.

We then pick Duursma, Sharp/Cumming, Grjl/Lindsay and Greeves/Farrow/Hibbins-Hargreaves (I would only select one of each of Sharp/Greeves, Lindsay/Farrow and Cumming/Hibbins-Hargreaves).

If we are still getting Sharp plus a Farrow/Phillipou type, and maybe a Cumming if Richmond dont take him, I dont see how its a problem
Issue is you’re adding maybes. Hoping other list managers let the players we want slide.

Happy to split one of the two but that second one seems wishful and if anything seems we are getting reamed.

I don't agree with this.. there is an abundance of slow midfielders in the afl around age of 30.. there is not the same in terms of quality small forwards with longevity of Ryan.. think of how many goals he has been deprived of over past 5 years with our lack of inside 50s and quality of service... jack Steele's is a butcher by foot as well...
Who are the abundance of ‘slow midfielders’ you are thinking of?

Steele is a good player who has been carrying St Kilda’s midfield for years.
He is tough, a leader and durable. Harley and our other young midfielders need protection and players to learn off.
He seems to be out of favour with Lyon. The trade would be a win win.

Much better than a second round pick which we probably wouldn’t use.

Getting a 4 pick upgrade in an average draft for Liam Ryan doesn't sound that good to me.

The thing I don't understand about Ryan going to Saints is how he thinks he's going to be able to handle Ross Lyon. Simmo always talked about how they had to be gentle with him I'm pre-season and he'd often leave the camps early. Ross won't be having any of that and will be dishing out all-mighty sprays when he slacks off.
Could be a complete fail.

People often try to gild the lilly with new opportunities.

Heard a rumour floating around Ben Hobbs had some interest from us.

Not his biggest fan but he’s probably not the worst get if he’s cheap. Competitive.

Does make me wonder if it’s feelers we are putting out or are we finally getting over Dev?
Ben Hobbs seems a bit of a spud to me. Not keen.

I watch him playing for Essendon and think I ‘m glad we didn’t get him. Gets caught htb pretty often.

"Warner has peaked".

McDonald is 23 and Warner is 24.
Midfielders are largely finished products straight out of the packaging.

Chris Judd peaked at 23, Peter Matera at 25, Kerr at 24 etc.

Warner wont put out another season equal or better than 2024. He will just be a 22 odd disposal mid who doesn't defend and has a terribly low kicking efficiency & kicks a goal a game but isn't a fwd. Basically Tim Kelly Jr but with worse skills.

It's no secret KPP take a lot longer which is why they are seen as more of a risk to draft and develop (especially rucks).

Now is the chance to spice up trade week. Get to work WCE and get Chad Warner this trade period.

Pillars-
Pick 1 (WCE)
Curnow
Warner

Get to work. We have a bunch of second rounderd to play with. The great chad warner was rather friendly with Harley after swans game.

Wowee seems like swans fans aren't exactly pushing against Warner leaving

is he J Graham but 2 years older?
You would only do a deal for Steele if its for 2 years with a trigger.

Sharp #1

Durrsma #2

Trade down 11+19 to potentially get back into the top 8-10 another of get Cumming/Lindsay/Schubert/Farrow/Fred

Cody Curts at 29 (likely gets pushed back to 35+ but he'll still be on the board)

NGA's for the rest.

while we need experience around our midfield, Steele is the less desired result.
Wilson, Winhager, Boxshall and some other picks swapped around

Matt crouch, blake acres, Steele sidebottom, mitch Duncan, Jack steele, Jack viney, Dion prestia, dylan shiel, ollie wines, Jack macrae, tom liberatore, Luke Parker, David swallow, tom mitchell, adam treloar, Stephen coniglio, Taylor Adams - that's nearly 20 just off the top of my head

Not sure why Blues are so reluctant to trade Curnow if a great offer comes in, Owies was the glue that was keeping that forward line ticking.
TBF to owies he's had a pretty good career
You knew I was comin!! **** me they are throwing darts at everything.

Ryan currency is a player. Yep. Barratt will do
Sos is a particularly bad list manager

In that same group of Erasmus/Davies/Sheldrick/Dev imo.

Would play every week and get 20+ and get the ball to Harley and Hewett.

OOC and no reports that he has been offered one.

Nice cheap option as a plug and play that you’d hope we have other players go past him in 3 years time or playing afl midfield every week he lifts to the level.

Get 20 every week? Only managed the feat 3 times this year. And only just when he did.

Absolute crab

With Massey being SA based is he more inclined to buy into taking Sharp with one of our first two picks?

I think he is the player that we need in terms of our midfield rebuild.

Not sure about Duursma given he is touted as a “hybrid”. We need out and out mids.

Hmm maybe not, with Massey in SA he may have the same opinion of Sharp as other SA based recruiters, that he isn't the best SA talent available and won't be in the best 3 come draft time.

Sharp’s range is still a big watch, Richmond definitely don’t need that archetype but they may just flat out view him as BPA, same as Essendon.

If you can do 2 and Hawks first for 5 and 6, you’d be laughing - but unfortunately I think Essendon only want to trade up for Willem and in that case, that’s not worth doing for us, he’s the priority.
I like will duursma and think he is the best prospect in the draft a cross between Whitfield and the lizard .

I just don't think he will stay and if he does we will have to overpay him due to inflated value because of offers from vic clubs .

I feel the club should be targeting 4 top 10 picks

Keep pick 2

Target 5 and 6 from essendon using pick 1 .

Target either of GCc port pick or saints pick with ryan , hawks 1st and our 2nd rounder

2 sharpe
5 cumming
6 shubert

Get all 3 top SA boys and put them up with hurn

Or he is a bust and only becomes Hoskin-Elliot, which is my fear that's all he is.!
