Port have evidently just had two tough opponents out the gate because they are toying with GC.

A good time for Gold Coast to be completely garbage considering 3 of the top 5 picks including the top 2 in this upcoming draft are Suns Academy girls

Could be more than that, Sunny Lappin caught fire in the last couple of U18 games, some are saying she's top 5 as well now (Usher, Davies, Baron AND Lappin). Plus Welsh is probably top 10, mid-sized forward, great player for us to target if GC can't get them all. But they're allowed to trade future picks now, if I were GC I'd trade away the entire 2026 draft just to get as many of the 2025s as possible.

Our woman's list is just so invested in doing well for their Coach and each other, it's palpable.

This young group will grow together and IF we are able to keep Daisy then I think success will come.

So good to see them sing the Club Song with such passion and gusto.

I like what I am seeing.

I thought it deserved its own post, but the green shoots and glimpses of what might be, that we witnessed from Riggs yesterday was very exciting.

Still only 18 and looks to be a really good player in the making.

When you see who we drafted last draft:

  • Painter
  • Riggs
  • Dalglish

You cant help but be impressed with those who did our recruiting.

Did McCarthy get pushed out or did she jump ship? Can't remember.
Either way it is lovely watching the Roos just annihilate the purps.

She in all fairness was behind one if the best rucks in the AFLW at the minute in Emma King who already has a very able back up in Kim Rennie.

Emma King, has probably given her longevity in the game, been one of the best ever rucks in the AFLW.

McGrath was simply starved of opportunities at North and jumped at our offer, win win all around.

It's my understanding that we sough out her willingness to move West and she was trilled that we came knocking.

EDIT:

Cancelled due to another case of Seniors Moments.

And the last piece of the puzzle, Lucy Boyd - some highlights below.

The injury list says she's due back in two weeks. Looks like a unit, and can apparently play forward, though listed as a defender. Unless one of our key backs goes down, I reckon throw her forward, drop either Lindgren or Lackfer depending on how they're going.

Agree on Riggs - didn't quite fall her way on the weekend, but lots of signs there. Got both hands on it a number of times, and as a junior her contested marking was always her strength - at some point they're going to start sticking. I reckon the fact that she was a genuine marking option in the last quarter helped create that space for Ella and Charlie. If we can add Boyd to that, it could get interesting.

McCarthy not McGrath?

Thanks Biggie - always nice to have kind people to help us geriatrics out when we have brain fog. :confusedv1:

From a Code Sports article from December 2023

15 Dec 2023 — So, for the first time in her career, McCarthy decided to be selfish. And that meant requesting a trade to Fremantle after four seasons and 31 .

No one can blame her, tbh. We were a basket case who'd get pumped every week. She had enough of losing and losing big.

Just one of those sliding doors moments where we then land the hottest coaching prospect, get a bunch of highly rated kids in and things turned immediately after she jumped.
Would have gone well under Daisy and the current setup I think.
