Dynasties can end pretty quickly, we basically couldn't beat Brisbane, they just bullied us physically and ran us into the ground, the grand final loss in 2023 was the driver for us to take our footy to the next level and that was the last game we have lost. There are a number of sides that have troubled us this year, they just couldn't play four quarters and we pretty much put them to the sword late in the game. That can change if sides are really driven to succeed.
Only Bne and Ess could manage 1/2 Norths score so far this year. And they only just managed it.
I wouldn't describe that as being even remotely troubled.

WC are on the up but the gap is currently still huge. Looks like we'll play finals for the first time this year if we can win one of the final two, which is a major advance.

Given where we started and how far we've come, our improvement over the year is impressive. We are now running out games and, as evidenced vs. Geelong, are now capable of putting together a good solid effort over 4 quarters against top 8 opposition. We actually now look like a team with a game plan and everyone is buying in.

But we are still a long way short of North. North just have the star power and positional depth that no-one else can come close to.

After this good game vs. the cats, my hopes for the team are...

1. Win one (preferably both) of the final games, therefore guaranteeing finals.
2. Win a final. Give them a taste and stoke that off season fire.
3. Finish 2026 top 4 and win at least 1 final.
4. Challenge in 2027.

Yeah, it is a bit deceiving when you look at the scores, but when we played Geelong, Blues, Cats, Pies and Richmond we didn't look that great, had 2 or 3 quarters that we either lost or were fairly close, we just have the ability to pile on some goals in a quarter and generally keep the opposition to a relatively low score.

It is the up and coming sides that have bothered us more than our traditional rivals in Crows and Lions because i guess we built up ourselves to beat those teams, are a lot more familiar with their strengths and weaknesses and we are generally switched on to play them.

I think there is a lot of really talented young players like Fish, Roberts, etc coming through the system, they just need some more experience and conditioning. I think that bar of exceptionalism will keep getting higher and higher, given our age profile I think it will be harder for us to push further ahead than where we are so if someone else sees that next level and can achieve it then things can change relatively quickly. I think Crows and Lions have fallen away pretty quickly, they are in the midst of a very large pack now.

Eagles have come a long way in a relatively short period of time. I think it would be good if you can win a final this year, it would be a huge positive. Hawks had a breakout year last year and finished 2nd behind us, but lost both their finals narrowly. It would have been a good reward for them had they been able to win a final last year, it would be good if the Eagles could get that reward... as long as it isn't against my club.

Our men’s side won one match this year. Our women’s side’s highest ladder finish was 12th, and that was in a year where they went 2-7 with a percentage of 53. We are already in uncharted territory. Sure, if they get a home final and lose it will be disappointing but for a side that has never come within shouting distance of finals, even making it in would be a massive step forward.

It is also exciting that pretty much all of the best players on the list are aged 19 to 23 with the possible exception of Emma Swanson. There’s no guarantee of future success but as long as the club remains serious about its commitment to the women’s side, there’s no reason that they shouldn’t be at least playing finals for most of the next few years.
