Whoever we pick has to be the best available player to fill our particular need. We need players with a high footy IQ and not athletes.
You do that later in the draft, not reach for kids you hope will be worth it.

When you have the top 2 picks, you don't 'fill needs'. That's what role players are for.

If Chesser was staying I'd agree with taking sharp probably

But now we just need elite runners who can play whatever game plan the coach is trying to currently implement... We got torched on transition soo bad this year it was pathetic
We got torched at the coalface which gave the outside runners first use of the ball. Win it in the clinches and you're not chasing tail all day

Watching the highlights of sharp and grjl this evening I've got to disagree...

Both tough as nails however grjl moves way better... More translatable to modern AFL.
In my opinion getting an experienced inside mid like Neale or Steele is better than drafting sharp at this stage and expecting miracles from him in his first year
You SERIOUSLY cannot be comparing Grjl to Sharp? Sharp has serious form at Nationals over last few years including this year where he was a beast, has regularly played SANFL and consistently done well. His decision making and making teams better around him is elite and has AFL ready qualities. Grjl - very quiet at Nationals, so-so at CTL and if you look at the vision most of the VFL touches were in the open. Yes he runs hard and carries but coughs up the ball a lot, runs into trouble and then kicks under pressure and cannot look laterally. Don't understand a world where he'd be top 20 or ahead of Sharp or Dylan Patterson.

This looks like the weakest WA crop in a while?
Evans being injured and Walley not being sighted hasn't helped.
Is it looking a bit better next season?

It lacks top-end talent, and the depth of the next group has been compromised due to a lack of continuity and consistent form, either due to injury or fitness.

Most guys touted as top prospects in either their U16 (Boniwell, Hart, Hill) or U17 (Rodriguez, Curtin) year just haven't come on.

It's been a bit of a difficult year for Cody, but this was a strong game from him in a high pressure situation, demonstrating that he can impact when he's able to get the game on his terms. The conditions weren't ideal for a big key forward with heavy rain and wind and a slippery footy, but Cody's hands in marking contests were secure and his bodywork was a feature all game.

Geez he is slow and lumbering. Carrying a bit too. Fitness guys will have there work cut out for them. With the forward pressure up the ground in the modern game, not sure he makes it.

No not comparing game styles.

Both excellent players... I just think grjl as an elite run and carry player is more suitable for us(I mean Patterson or Lindsay would also suffice).. we have literally no one on the list who can do that.

Plus i feel that he is able to play more inside than sharp is able to play outside.. in the end they are both good players. But sharp i wouldn't think could come straight into the AFL system and be effective

This.

Guys losing the first contest, then a 2nd (and often 3rd) Eagles player getting involved while the opposition has 1-2 players competing (and winning) at the same contest.

Then bingo bango they have the spare on the outside and torch us (the other one is transition, but not sure outside runners are the sole answer to that either).

We’ll look a lot better and be more competitive bringing in contested ball winners (and getting a lot fitter obviously).

Disagree with Futbolista rankings, but he's now got Banfield at 4 in WA rankings.

1-Fred Rodriguez (SF)
2-Sam Swadling (WP)
3-Toby Whan (SF)
4-Charlie Banfield (CL/PSA)
5-Jacob Farrow (WP)
6-Koby Evans (P)
7-Cody Curtin (CL)
8-Kaiden Summerell (EF)
9-Dale Sutherland (P)
10-Luke Hallett (EP/PSA)

Robinson's kicking efficiency is a serious weakness. I know he's inside, and it was terrible weather over the weekend, but he struggled to hit a target against East Fremantle.
I only included Robinson in my 2026 pick because he is rated quite highly, and being a WA lad would make sense.

A year is a long time in footy, and we will go through another whole dance next year when we get a Top 3 pick, and if we trade with Essendon, a Top 6 pick. It could be pick 1 and 4, which I wouldn't be mad about. I don't expect us to move/improve from 17th-18th until 2027.

Yeh nah. Sharp is a 10year player of similar ilk to Dunkley. Dunkley is the defensive mid who gives Neale and the rest of the lions mids the space and opportunity to clear the ball out of stoppages. Without Dunkley, Neale doesn't win a Brownlow.

Similar to Yeo..but Yeo is cooked. Sharp is our Yeo replacement.
Neale won a brownlow without Dunkley lol
Dunkley is also a far better athlete than Sharp is

Can I ask, for those that have watched Farrow. How does he compare to Allan in terms of profile.

Seems like he is a better kick, but perhaps not as athletic in terms of profile? Does he have the same or better potential to move up the ground as Allan?

A bit of noise coming from West Perth he’s going to be a very good midfielder in time. So would be very happy with him in that hawks pick range.

You add outside speed with run and carry later.

Right now we need meat and potatoes. A grunt. A legitimate grunt, that's a safe bet for 200 games and will be a good foil to Hewett, Harley and our other top draftee.

Vanilla as he looks, that man is clearly Sharp.

Farrow and Curtin should be ranked higher than Banfield.

Maybe Walley is in hiding, keeping a low profile from other teams.

I wonder if there's a possibility we might not be able to list Wes if the AFL doesn't give us 2 extra rookie spots.
At the moment with Ryan and Chesser leaving, we only have 7 free spots.
Livingstone probably the only other uncontracted player that we're likely to cut, unless we consider delisting Barnett or Owies while still under contract.
Right now we only have enough spots for 4 players through the draft & trades/FA + Banfield, Williams & Evans. It's gonna be tricky to land all our targets.

Farrow is the better kick by the length of the Flemington straight. He’s more a natural footballer rather than an athlete like Bo.

The mental side of Bo’s game cant be questioned, not sure about Farrow yet.

I wouldn’t be spending a top pick on a HBF with midfield potential, clearly our list team don’t share that view and wouldn't be at all surprised if we went early with Port’s pick if we can get it off GCS. Dogs and Freo would be the two teams I’d expect to strongly consider him with their 1R pick.

I am absolutely certain we’ll be given extra rookie spots and probably the ability to prelist too. Other than Starcevich which we’ll probably hand over an end 1R compo pick I can’t see any players coming over but no doubt we’ll land another Owies somewhere.

I agree with that mostly. But I feel we'll bring in at least 2 (best 23 players)

I reckon Starcevich is a lock and Tunsill will come home. Brisbane depth is ridiculous and will learn from Dev mistake. I also think Steele us gettable, offer 4 years and decent coin and he'll come.

Pyke said we're gonna to be aggressive, Mini has stated his desire of us not getting younger, we're lossing Allan, Chesser and Ryan. Wait to the season is finished and all player movements become known. Reckon this will be the busy offseason ever

This mindset kinda worries me. Hope we don't go overboard with bringing in experienced players a la the Ken Judge era, even if they are better quality players.
The draft should still be the focus with a minimum of 4 players through there.
Taking minimal players through the draft due to a lack of spots would be a foolish move in the midst of a rebuild.

20-23yos instead of 18-19yos is fine, in fact preferred which is why I’ve raised interest in trading for the Davies, Wilson, FOS types.

Trading in >24yos in a rebuilding side is absolutely stupid unless they are FAs or low cost.
