It might have been calmly delivered, but I don't think I could get away with saying "well you're ****ing shit at your job" at work.
Cue media outrage because someone (Bailey Smith) bothered to direct some angst towards one of their own. Meanwhile the same reporters and photographers hound players and coaches 24/7 and sift through garbage bins looking for any shred of a story they can run with.

Self righteous garbage and the media need to seriously step back and see the absurdity of the situation. They're only going bananas over the Chris Scott matter because it's been dealt with and put to bed by the AFL and the media aren't being given any dirt on what actually occurred.

Childish and petulant stuff from the media. Double standards are alive and well. Look at some of the comedic stuff from media in the last week.
-- Garry Lyon telling Bailey Smith to be a better man (Billy Brownless says hi)
-- Leigh Matthews saying the AFL need to crack down on incidents behind the ball (Neville Bruns says hi)
-- David King says the Chris Scott matter is serious and should be investigated further (the kebab vendor says hi)

Enlighten us all on what you think should be done please. Smith has apologised, the photographer has not put in any formal complaint so she’s obviously accepted it and moving on. I hope youre not just being offended on someone elses behalf.

Do you think Smith deserves a suspension now? Sent to a re-education camp? Fined?

No one is saying Smith should’ve done what he done, but wow it’s being blown out of proportion by the media (I wonder why). Come the beginning of tonights game it will be forgotten.

Like everything in life these days, it seems like it's easier for everyone to suggest that there must be a binary response to what Bailey did. In the end, I think the nuance is better reflected in the truth of the following two statements.

Bailey really could have done a lot better, despite any supposed provocation. And Bailey has not committed some heinous act that is worthy of serious censure or action by the club or the AFL.

So I'll go on believing that both of those things are true, rather than holding to some mistaken notion that your view on this matter tells us whether you are 'for' or 'against' Bailey.

More than anything, though, I simply hope he does better next time. Watching people grow through and past challenges they have faced is truly one of the most rewarding experiences in life.

You dont think he talked to behind closed doors?

What exactly do you want to happen to him?

Do you want him suspended?

True.

I have an issue with d*ckheads applauding him for talking about MH issues and then tearing him down the minute he displays something that shows emotional instability.

Mainly the AFL media.

They're just so massively full of sh*t it's ridiculous.

As someone else said, bring on tonights game.

Bye week chat:

Ever have those memories where you think "did that actually happen or am I just making this up?"

One I've always had is an article in the paper where Adam Mcphee was talking about electing to be tasered and that his wife had been tasered and when his kids grow up they will be tasered too. I can't see why I'd make that up, and remember it vividly but it just seems so ludicrous. There was no additional context either, just we have all been tasered.

Last night I recalled a memory of being told around maybe 2006, that Gary Ablett Snr had watched Rocky VI and it motivated him to consider coming out of retirement and he went down to a few training sessions. Did anyone else ever hear anything like this?

Two big games in the GFL this weekend. Good chance to see some quality local footy for anyone who will be sitting around scratching their arse.

I must have been living under a rock, what is the “Chris Scott matter”?

It only surfaced yesterday (how convenient).

He had a go at a junior staff member after the QF win, and then apologised.
Thursday before a weekend off is perfect timing for the club. By Friday everyone is focussing on the weekend’s games and everyone has forgotten about the incident.

Sounds like a non-event to me.

Regardless of hyperbole and comparisons to other events, Baz's behaviour toward the photographer was pretty gross.

Plenty of people with vastly higher-stress jobs manage to not unleash abusive tirades against people who are doing absolutely nothing wrong in the course of their day-to-day. She wasn't being intrusive or snapping pap shots; he absolutely over-reacted.
I think she was being intrusive. She was looking for a 'money shot' of Bailey with his shorts down and possibly his genitalia exposed. A towel looked like it was hastily draped over his bits and even our physio/trainer looked pissed off in this photo

I have no time really for 'tabloid' journalism. Gutter journalism is what it is.

I haven't directly heard that Lyon has told Smith to be a better man. But I have read it.

But do you know what's amazing about that? When Bailey was done for flipping the bird twice, Lyon said this.

"Just keep doing it. Turn up with a cheque book before the game. (I'm thinking 3 birds today, what will that cost?)"
And so now he wants him to be a better man.

Unless he said something sexist the female angle is irrelevant.

yeah, nah that was never on the cards

If any work from the physio was going to involve anything close to that level of exposure, they would have gone indoors and used one of the private medical rooms where no one would have any line of sight to the treatment being received

Before the presser on Wednesday apparently Scott was told who would be in the room. (He was talking to an AFL junior).
And he said "Why are they here? (happened to be females)" 'They are accredited' "who makes that decision?".

Who knows why he got upset over it. Seems strange.

Ah okay, fair enough. Maybe I read too much into that photo. The sharp alarmed look on the physio's face suggests he wasn't happy with the photographer either. Dunno about you but I don't think I'm misreading that?

Maybe all of the tables in the room were being used and they decided to go outside? We will never know.

That’s a long bow to draw IMO
