Excluding NGA/FS
Top 10
Duursma
Sharp
CDT
Cumming
Robey
Grjl
Taylor
Hibb harg
Scheubert
Lindsay

Probably the most sensible rankings I’ve seen. Still think Robey’s disposal and decision making is questionable, WCE will love him.

Agreed on Robey. It’s a shame. If he was much improved in those aspects he’d be an outrageous talent imo

I think you need to give Massey another year. The Pieman had his type but Massey did pretty well last year.

Looking increasingly likely that if we want Robey, we need to take him with pick 2.

He’s pretty tantalising as a prospect. Moves shockingly well for someone who has the dimensions of a key position player.

I doubt he gets past both Richmond and Essendon.

Pick 7 from GC really needs to be a priority for us.

With Robey pushing up rankings it means there is now an extra player in that group who will be available (it may well be Robey, or Schubert, possibly Cumming).

It may be a draft night trade so we carry some picks in for GC though.

Let him rocket up the board, it then pushes another player down that might be available if we hold a mid first rounder.

Can I ask who is the better FWD between CDT and Schubert?
Most on here hate on taking CDT with 2 (which is also not my preference btw) but often have an ideal haul of us taking Schubert. Interested to hear how more thorough draft watchers compare their forward craft.

Well CDT plays mostly ruck, so definitely Schubert. I would be looking at Archie Ludowkye with our second round pick. ESPN put him at 25 after his injury, he was rated top 12 before his injury

Yep Schubert a far not accomplished KPF than CDT, absolutely no point selecting CDT to play KPD.

Ludowyke- Jesus no. Terrible kick for goal, already stacked for KPFs. I do agree that him and Liam Hetherton will be good value picks for a different team. There will be some very good midfielders and our pick of a number of KPDs available with that pick, hope we go a mid.

I'll repeat what I said over on the draft board:

"Some pretty incoherent choices in there tbh.

Duff-Tytler being selected at CHF is downright idiotic. The kid played three regular Talent League games for the year and kicked 5 goals in total.

Further, whoever was on the selection panel and decided to leave Tom Evans out of the starting back 6 needs to be moved on for next year. That's just hugely embarrassing. I think he was categorically better than Lindsay or Fincher this year and he had more total disposals than both of them combined this season at Talent League.

Riley Onley (who I really rate) only played two games total (rounds 1 and 2) averaging 25.5 disposals and yet is named as the starting centre. There is no way he should be selected for the Coates Talent team of the year.

This is overall just a really really poor attempt by the selectors and should be instantly dismissed by anyone with a modicum of understanding about this league."
Sounds like they are picking on U18 Champs form as well then.

Have to think their goal is to get as many players drafted as high as possible, hence the CDT pick, when he only played 3 games.

Feel for the guys who actually played all year and didn't go swanning off for school games / state / vfl.

Pass on Ludowkye his kicking accuracy for goal in on a par with Archer Reid - must be an Archer thing.

Archie is a one of the players that I find hard to peg in draft range, could go mid second or could float out to top or middle of the third.

Would be investing in Ainsworth long before I ever considered Ludowkye.

Those who watch Schuberts league debut for Central Districts in the semi final, where he joined the first kick first goal Club, would have been impressed with his first shot at goal, roosted it from a set shot out side the arc and it never looked like missing from the time it left his boot.

But the key stand out feature is Schubert’s game is his ability position himself in the perfect spot to take an over head mark.
He is extremely good at working his opponent either under or over the ball is flight so that he gets first purchase.
He also has sticky fingers that ensures that he holds most of his overhead marks and that’s is a stark contrast to CDT who’s overhead marking is not ideal as he spills and second grabs a lot of overhead marks.

The fact that Schubert was able to do so well in the SA seniors in his debut, goes along way to convince me that he is going to be a real handful for key defenders in the AFL.

I have mentioned this before but the other huge consideration with Schubert is that is one of the youngest kids in this cohort, had be been born two week latter he would be in next years cohort.

I doubt he gets past both Richmond and Essendon.

Excellent news if that happens as it would mean one of the players that I rate higher than him slides a pick back, hopefully we can get some more single figure picks and those I prefer slide to us.

I really feel like this is the best path for us.

Take 1, 2 and ~7. Will likely cost us Hawks 1st plus a 2nd or maybe a future pick - but means we can still take a slider on day 2 of draft night with our 2nd rounder.

Ultimately means we turned Barrass into Pick 7 and a 3rd.

Use our thirds for some sliders / project players or trade for some experienced B graders at other clubs.

Agree with your analysis.
Ludowkye is A Reid light at best.
Ainsworth has had a very solid champs and played RUCK/KFD/KPD and has played a lot of KPD also through his career, he would be the next best KP player after Schubert if we are taking 1 in the draft.

Is Schubert worth a top 10 pick to play KPD and transfer to KPF in the future, this is the question I have?

Its about what WC see as needs right now and the midfield is tragically low on talent and this is priority 1.
Its like the debate of if someone comes really hard for Duursma and offers us picks that mean we get Sharp, Cumming and Schubert, which draft hand do you take?

Duursma is a great talent but is a very athletic outside HB/HF/WING and is this priority 1?

Exactly, that's why I'd trade 1 for 5&6

Robey is speculative for WC.

Our list needs are rolled gold mids and best talent.
Sharp and Cumming are he best inside and balanced mids in the draft, make sure we can take them at 1 and 2 or we trade up with lots of other picks to make sure we get a pick that guarantees we get Duursma, Sharp and Cumming in this draft.
2 elite mids and an the best outside player in the draft.
Might need to get up as far as the RICH picks to guarantee we get them but I would rather do that than get speculative with our assets.
That might need picks Hawks 1st 15, WC 2nd 19/20, Ryan trade pick 23 to get pick 3 or 4 from RICH and get a F3rd back.
Picks 1, 2, 3 or 4?
Still leaves us with VAFL assistance pick 19, Hawks 2nd 33, Chesser trade 35, Hawks 3rd 51 to negotiate mature talent trades.

Going to be an interesting trade period and draft period.
All the top players like Merrett, Curnow, Petracca etc. are going to throw picks around everywhere in the 1st round.
Maximise our draft hand with our assets/picks for our desired outcome is 2025 draft period is the biggest priority, we may never have a draft hand like it again.

WC fans all out here thinking we’ll be trading UP for a change
