2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

Surely not dumb enough to pick Melb..
Dinner with a number of our players last night.

Coffee with King and Jones.

In my opinion, one seems more like a thanks but no thanks and the other seems more like a mini celebration stoked to have you with us.

Pretty wild that Gold Coast may find a way to parley Jack Lukosious into Christian Petracca. Ports list management choices last year continue to boggle the mind

Saints give: 7, Butler and Heath
Receive: Flanders and 16

Melbourne give: Petracca and 55
Receive: 7 and Heath

Suns give: Flanders and 16
Receive: Petracca, Butler and 55
I like it, its not perfect, but the bones are there. Id argue:

  • Saints feels right, although there's always an argument that a pile of players doesn't equate to a better pick. Butler and Heath don't hold much value.
  • Heath for 55 could just happen separately
  • Melbourne wouldn't rate Heath (3 year contract suggests otherwise but they'd expect him for free), so they'd want more for Petracca, their starting point would be one of those - 2 firsts for a second back deal I reckon.
  • Suns, on paper it seems fair. Basically giving up 2 firsts for Petracca, Butler and a 3rd.
  • Sun will want points for academy boys which would probably need to be taken into account so 55 means little to them - pick upgrades would be the way to go.

So Melbourne seems hard done by here. If they gave pick 24 to us and received pick 16 that probably sways it closer to their favour.

There's also 2 years of future picks not taken into account here so there's a hundred different options which could be discussed.

Either way, its clear that a trade is more than possible between the 3 clubs.

Am I the only one who doesn’t really get the hype around Petracca and trade value? He was a star for a few years, suffered a serious injury, has come back looking not the same level and is gonna be 30 next year.

If I was Gold Coast and was offered Petracca for Humphrey I would be telling them to jog on.

It sounds like Flanders is still undecided? Should be a no brainer
Melbourne have realised that they made a major mistake not trading Trac & Clarry last year… they could have kick started the list rebuild with multi picks in a strong draft.

They’re playing catch up now. Tassie has them spooked.

They’ll be after future picks.

Nepo Babies need to give up more in that scenario.

Getting Trac for Flanders & a 1st is unders IMO.

Maybe a 2026 1st to Melb evens it out.

Just haven’t been getting the cupping treatment you deserve king???? 😞
Have since she saw me behave the way I did when I took her to the Saints game, she’s questioning who I love more, her or NAS, and i think it’s about time she knew she was the 2nd option.

First part could be a reason why we should trade Roma whilst the value is high, similar situation and all. I'm still not sure what the right option is.

Petracca will be 30 in January and isn't the same player that he was. I don't think 2 1st is under.
