This thread is becoming increasingly popular, and to keep some sort of order, we will have some….

Rules of engagement:

1. Bring valid news or links to Twitter posts from notable sources. Don’t post screenshots or “some bloke just said on SEN” or what some “trade whisperer” has posted on a Facebook page.

2. Ignore what other team boards are putting up as trade offers. Don’t quote or bring them here either.

3. Don’t post “buckle up” for the lols.

4. If you can’t say anything nice about Worpel or CJ, don’t say anything at all. The continued slaps and backhanders are just going to be deleted.

Yep, need to stay quiet as a club, even Sam , he will definitely be asked but I'd rather him not even get into any of the chatter and dealings with the Tullamarine football club. We all need to just move on.
Anyway, I hope we take our picks to the draft. Been a while since we've had excitement about picking at the top end.
Amazing that as the draft nears, more and more names are getting recognition. Top 25-30 are a good solid bunch.

Humphrey (work has already been done) and Walsh.

From what I have heard Butters is absolutely no chance.

I'd like to see as look at young talent players from the Northern states that are getting games from Victoria, Collingwood did it years ago with GWS, we should look at GC they can't keep them all.

I would love this, but there is some bias involved since he played at my old local club in the country before moving to Melbourne.
Moved from O&M reserves at the strongest side in the comp to senior footy at the weakest side, just because he felt he was good enough.
Then became a VFL star who is unlucky to not have received an AFL contract.

These were his stats against the eventual VFL premiers, 4 weeks after the Dogs decided not to give him a senior list spot.

What's the knock on him why he hasn't been picked up? Kicking, pace?

I believe both of these statements are correct.

We couldn't contact them until the last hour of trade period because they wouldn't take our calls.
They were in a room down the hallway for the last 6 hours of the trade period. I'm sure we could have doorknocked.

We should be able to get a F1 with pick 22, so I hope we take pick 10 to the draft.
Agree but needs to be on draft night, clubs are more desperate for a player and will pay more, but if we do will we bae able to fill the spots vacant on our list?

So the rumour within the club was our first offer was rejected which we all know then our next offer matched what they said they wanted (after the trade with Carlton) and then they moved the goal posts once again once we satisfied their 2nd offer they moved the goal posts again

Apparently Tom Petroro was adament it was going through after chatting to Dons list manager the something occured for it to fall through

Putting two and two together it was properly [PLAYERCARD]Andrew Welsh[/PLAYERCARD]

On a side note Zach Merrett was remove from Dons group chat and then re-added post trade period finishing and he posted a message saying he looking forward to going back etc

Don’t believe we did door knock though did we? I wonder why?

Who is giving up an f1 for pick 22 on what everyone says is a weak draft? Someone good would need to slide

Someone may if a player slides, or of we add something on top. Hopefully Collingwood, given Tassie are looming and they need to bring in some young talent.

It would be fun to have another death ride thread.

St Kilda is going to be there for the picking in the next couple of years. they are going to have talent that emerges that they simply will not be able to pay with the insane decisions they have made in the last few months.

My two cents. I don't think the trade was ever going to happen. Welsh couldn't back down from his comments. It's entirely likely that all the ITK insights were spot on from the perspective of the Hawks. I assume we were negotiating in good faith, and that maybe even the EFC list managers were too. But Welsh was never going to back down.

I think it's reckless and irresponsible to do that sort of thing based on emotion (which this clearly was). HOWEVER, I'm really interested to see how this plays for EFC. They needed change at the top and to shake things up and do things differently. Fair play to Walsh for trying something a bit different. I don't think it'll help them at all, but I'll be watching his presidency closely (well, not too closely, don't want to look at the Dons too much).

Collingwood would be a great death ride.

Maybe Welsh was never going to sign off on the deal. But Rosa and co. did, and everyone thought it was going to go through - until Welsh stepped in.

I don't think we will ever know the solid truth about what transpired. If Essendon DID come out and said, "We were just pulling Hawthorn's chain", then at least we would know. They are quite entitled to do that, if that was their aim.

As a footy fan for 60 years, the one thing that has annoyed me more than anything else in the game, is all this cloke and dagger stuff, the back door politics. The game is heavily dependent upon public support, and yet they treat the footy public as mushrooms with total contempt. The media thrives on it, and they make a handsome living from stirring the pot.

Some honesty in football would make a welcome change.

After the report on him attending the combine, I'm curious to see if he's more involved on draft night.

Couldnt agree more

I know this is an unpopular opinion but trade period should be the entire summer period, open early to mid October until preseason

This forcing trades over a 1.5 weeks is farmer league BS

That last bit is a lie from ZM. Couldn’t be further from the truth he’s looking forward to going back.

They’ll be lucky to get 20 games out of him.

Threw away a golden chance at a rebuild before the Tassie drafts for 20 games of a bloke that hates the place.

Im still trying to get my head around Essendon's or should I say the powerbrokers/Welsh's stance on all of this. Rosa wanted to do this only to be overriden by welsh and co. They did this out of spite and with that mentality, you dont get anywhere in life, let alone sport. They are celebrating denying Hawthorn, meanwhile setting back their rebuild for a few more years. And most of the bigfooty nuffs are celebrating it. What a toxic, amateur club. We will be fine, more opportunities for our players to step up and I think they will.
