Ah Chee is a champion. A two time premiership star. If Adelaide disrespected him by not offering the bare minium of a first round draft pick then I hope it is understood that Brisbane honored his worth. I would love to see us offer him a plethora of contracts from 1-5 years, whatever it takes to get him over the line. He has a once in a lifetime opportunity to be a five time premiership player and be remembered as one of the games greatest players.

I think it’s likely Adelaide told Cal there was a not insignificant chance he has to go through the PSD to check his temperature. I doubt he would have minded, if he protested the Crom probably come to the table and do one of the options were proposed. I certainly wouldn’t have protested.

Does anyone know how much a player earns if their team wins the GF?

As in, how much they earn for the whole playoff run?
I thought they just get a share of the prize money for winning the premiership, outside of their contract.

Don’t be surprised to see Port take AhChee. It’s difficult due to how clubs and players can manipulate the PSD.

But it’s definitely being considered.
I wonder if Cal would be open to the prospect of going to Port. At Adelaide, he apparently has a good relationship with Murray Davis and at Port he would have Stewie Dew. His relationship with Dew is an unknown given that they date back to his time at the Suns. Port as a club has always had a good culture for indigenous players...interesting development.

He was a fan of Dew at the Suns, at least at one point in time. Source - he told me

This does not quite answer your question but is something.
Also, players individual contracts may have a clause for a bonus for winning B & F, Premiership & other awards

AFL grand final prize money

In addition to the premiership cup, premiership flag and E.L. Wilson shield, the grand final winning club is awarded $1.2 million in prize money.

The runners-up don't go home empty handed - they receive a $660,000 bonus as a consolation prize.

Additionally, clubs and players can earn more money through their performances.

A prize pool of $1.1 million is split among the players of the top four teams in a season.

While as of 2023, the McClelland Trophy is awarded to the best performed club across the AFL and AFLW seasons, with $1 million in prize money attached to that honour.

The money is typically shared between the club and its players.

My opinion is West Coast should just take him. They are in desperate need of more quality and can pay Ah Chee much more than any of the other clubs. They should just bite the bullet, tell Ah Chee and his manager that if he's there they'll call his name.

If Eagles picked Cal wonder if Crows would pick Dev in retaliation?

Actually why didn't we trade a junk pick with Eagles to get Dev over ... is Dev happy to play anywhere or was the expectation thst since they had the first pick...

West Coast can sign Dev right now.
We have delisted him.

Eagles did not want Dev on their senior list so no junk pick.
Eagles must have plans to fill that senior list via the national draft.
They will take him as a rookie in that draft

Just spitballing, is it lions tin foil hat territory that AhChee/adelaide are able to set a contract so its front loaded to avoid anyone else picking him in the PSD which means it kinda rules out Adelaide making a big play for Zac bailey (small ties to SA) next year because of cap space?
Nah it should be the average of the contract

I’m thankful that we aren’t at the bottom of the ladder and wrestling with the decision of whether to take a Duursma with pick 1 #blessed

Eagles will sign Dev and one or two other delisted players during the SSP period, on to their extended rookie list.

Clubs keep trying to make them in to midfielders.

They're not. Xavier is a winger. Zane is a third tall forward or half forward. Willem is a third tall defender or half back. Don't try and make them midfielders.

Pick 2 is just as much a flip as pick 1. Cooper Duff-Tytler might be as good as Luke Jackson. One day. But right now he's a really tall athlete who lacks KPP skills and contested marking.

As soon as I see "utility" I'm immediately thinking of the old adage "jack of all trades, master of none".

Reminds me of taking Rayner. Nearly every other club would have made the same pick, but they’d be relieved in a way they didn’t have to.
