Apologies for intruding y'all,

No love for Mitch Marsh here? I know he's slid a little bit in rankings after getting blanketed by Thredgold in the grand final, but a 190 odd hybrid forward with elite set shot, great field kick and marking, good at ground level and a good tank. Would've thought he'd be right there about in the frame

Id be amazed if JT didnt have a hard-on for Oliver Greeves. Very Trac and Humphery esc. Big mid and an ability to play forward, take marks and kick goals. Need to look at a few more games but he just screams the type we are keen on.
I'm worried he's not clean enough at ground-level to be a starting centre square mid.

And not explosive enough to be a Trac/Humph.

Could be a good player - just wondering where. Wonder if his running capacity is good.

Langford's "burst" was questioned heavily through last year's draft - and turned out to be more or less a non-factor on the field at AFL level.

Hope we don't over-compensate and pick quick players for the sake of quick players.

I can see us picking Sam Cumming with one of our firsts. Seems like a JT type.
I think it means jack shit, but if youre going to test crap athletically you shouldn't bother. Could be the difference between you sliding or not with some clubs. Player agents would be the ones making this call.
I reckon it's probably a great way to benchmark & validate what the recruiters see on the field - especially comparing to previous cohorts.

I'm not sure how much GPS/game-day data they get access to for U18s.

What I agree with 100% is that if you base decisions on combine results and not in-game athleticism - you're doing it very wrong.

Harvey is a decent example of this, never looked slow in game to me - tested poorly in pure pace - but his 2km result was really strong, a great validator and more relevant for success at AFL level than a 20 metre burst.

We already have four developing tall forwards (JVR, Jefferson, Kentfield and Johnson) plus established options in Mihocek, Fritsch and Melksham. That’s effectively seven list spots dedicated to forwards already.

We’re also adding another project player in Kalani White, and it’s still unclear whether his long-term role will be forward, defence or ruck.

I can’t see us adding another KPF unless it’s a genuine can’t-miss prospect. Marsh and Shubert don't look like they are it. The list is already heavy in that area, and we’ve just delisted seven players this off-season. With the trade period done, I doubt we’ll see further changes, even if a couple (Jefferson, Johnson) should go.

I think the combine testing for AFL is almost a complete waste of time, it's not basketball or even NFL where specific attributes can make or break a player. Being a great athlete makes you a [PLAYERCARD]sam frost[/PLAYERCARD], [PLAYERCARD]majak daw[/PLAYERCARD] etc. an I don't need a combine to tell me Trac, Martin etc are dynamic athletes.

I thought the athlete vs footballer was put to bed mid 2000s. I know the game is going in the direction that suits being an athlete, but you still want to pick a player with better football attributes. Also players can work on these things once their into the system. I still recall Brereton calling Martin a waddler early on.

Should have known he was going to be a gun if that dunderhead was calling him that.

It's quiet here.

Vewy quiet.

Full season highlights for the standout inside mid in this draft pool Dyson Sharp. Dyson is not the type of footballer who's going to wow the crowd with spectacular, highlight worthy plays... his bread and butter is his work around congestion and contest. Clean hands, powerful over the ball, quick and slick disposal, and always a ferocious appetite to pressure and tackle. Sharp is the player most ready to step straight in to an AFL midfield in round 1 next season and meaningfully contribute, and shapes as a likely future leader for whichever team picks him.

Just following on from my previous post with a summary of the next batch from Twomey's phantom form guide:

10. Josh Lindsay
11. Jevan Phillipou
12. Oliver Greeves
13. Mitch Marsh
14. Lachy Dovaston
15. Oskar Taylor
16. Noah Hibbins Hargreaves
17. Harley Barker

Lindsay, I don't mind but I think he looks better than he is, at least in my view of the champs games. The commentators constantly talked him up, but I never really saw anything that made me take notice. Wouldn't be excited but wouldn't melt either.

Phillipou didn't play the champs so I actually haven't seen him at all. And since I'm not actually a recruiter and none of this means jack shit, I won't be watching any of Jevan. Because Jevan. Jevan.

Greeves is one I can't make up my mind on. His inside stuff is consistently very good, and he has some forward half skills. There are obvious similarities between he and Langford, but Langford has a very good tank and I'm not sure Greeves does.

Marsh I'm a fan of and would be happy if we picked him. Good hands, smart, and a nice set shot.

Dovaston I'm a big fan of. Ultra consistent, 53 goals in a season is great from a small forward and has every skill (including great pressure) that a modern small forward needs. Very keen.

Oskar Taylor is a no from me. Great combine but had no impact in the games against quality opposition at the champs.
*Edit: Didn't play champs apparently LOL. Not named Jevan so will check out some videos.

NHH has great skills but is very soft to my eye. No.

I'm a huge Harley Barker fan. If he didn't do his ACL I've got no doubt he would be pushing the top 10. All damage per disposal. Hard runner both into attack and back in defense. Finds space and has great vision and execution with his kicking. Another I'm very keen on.

The guys who come after I wouldn't consider with our current picks but will do another summary in a bit just to round things out.

Great highlights package. I remember hearing his name 18 months ago as a sure fire top pick in this draft, but his stock seems to have slipped a bit. What are the knocks on him? Has he stagnated this year? Have other kids just developed and gone past him? Does he lack the versatility to play a second position? He looks outstanding at clearances, had a decent turn of speed and while not a penetrating kick seems to use it smartly to put his team mates in better spots.

Greeves and Marsh, then Lindsay.

Yeah i think Dovaston is surely one we take. We lack greatly in this area and he is clearly the best small forward in this draft. We take Sharp or Grij with Dovaston and that's a pretty good result. Would prefer Robey but he's possibly going top 2 even.

This has us taking Schubert and Phillipou. lol happens every year where they have us taking the duds so better players can slide to there teams picks.

Has us passing on CDT, Lindsay and Dovastan for Schubert. Who writes this crap.

The 'melbourne must draft the best KPF available' rhetoric is so tiresome. I watched another draft preview from a different YouTube channel who I normally don't mind and they had us taking Schubert as well :$
And that's without taking into consideration we lost two mids and a small defender and are bringing in Mihocek, Heath and White. Can't see us drafting a tall with those high picks, no matter who it is.

100%. We're also going to lose two best 22 mids (Viney and Steele) in 3 years time.

I think there is a group of players on the list King will want to get a look at (Jefferson, Kentfield, Adams, Tholstrup, AMW, Mentha) before he makes a call on them next year - if we reach for a KPF this year and suddenly Jefferson or Kentfield comes good (Very unlikely but possible) we probably have one too many KPFs on the list.
