List Mgmt. NGA, Father son watch

So any kid with indigenous heritage now qualifies as an NGA prospect, no matter where they grew up?
I may have been asleep at the time, but what happened with Connor McLeod? Obviously available to us as f/S or nga. Did we ever trial him or have him in our academy? Wasn’t he in the Glenelg seniors this year?

I've never seen that last part confirmed by the AFL.
Nor had I until recently .. but this article seems to support it

I came across this info in the thread on the power board for Dougie Cochrane. For obvious reasons a few posters there have been paying attention to what's been unfolding

If you want to follow it up, find post #177 first. Then you can probably find more clarity jumping to post #818

Not good enough to get drafted.

From what I understand he wasn't very interested in footy as a junior. Was more into soccer and tennis I think.

Nah that's the same thing I've seen (linked from that thread). Note it says "reverting to the old rule' which SA and WA didn't have access to metro Indigenous prospects (not NGA matching). And it's still got NGA zones under review.

Theres nowhere it clearly says 'SA and WA teams now have access to metro Indigenous players'.

The Port board are going off this article:

"The West Australian and South Australian clubs pushed for access to metropolitan Indigenous players to be added to their NGA zones and won approval for that two years ago in 2019."

Which, unless for some reason it was discarded when matching bids inside the top 40 came back last year, should still stand.

If you can be bothered looking there's an AFL article floating around about 1 of the WA clubs option to draft a metro indigenous lad. It was from a couple of years ago and whether or not they were going to nominate him

The AFL has a habit of not publishing clear information on lot of issues, particularly NGA information

I just find it hard to believe that every single indigenous lad is tied to an academy. Doesn't seem right to me.

I like Father/Son in principle, I like the idea of indigenous kids in remote areas having access to high performance.

I don't understand and indigenous kid from a metro Adelaide area being locked in to an AFL club

Yes sorry that's what I meant. It was added but could only be matched after pick 40 (as per that article). That's why Freo couldn't get Jesse Motlop.

The rule change was first to make every player only match after pick 40, rather than SA/WA metro indigenous players only.

A 'reversion to the old rule' would be that. Making metro indigenous players accessible before 40 would be new.

Edit: there seems to be 2 clear opinions on this issue

The first is that the AFL need to change the rules over access to indigenous players who reside in metro areas and are a part of SA & WA clubs NGA programs

The second is that the rules have already evolved over the past 5-6 years since the AFL started tinkering with the rules in regard to NGA players. And that as of this draft the clubs can nominate metro indigenous players who are a part of and meet the AFL NGA requirements

So in regard to port having access to Dougie Cochrane, people who hold the second opinion believe that he has met the AFL requirement in regard to his indigenous heritage. He has already been accepted into the AFL indigenous academy. They also believe that the AFL's evolving rules on access to metro area NGA players will allow them to match a bid.

The only hurdle that they believe now needs to be crossed is the AFL signing off on Cochrane meeting their criteria (AFL rules) around his application for NGA status at port

You should do yourself a favour and have a read of the posts I suggested yesterday. Here's the first 1 again, post #177

And this post #825 is also worth a look. As well as post #816 I also suggested yesterday

Yes, I understand all that. I can't find any statement from the AFL that supports the first, Just interpretation of the 2024 changes that it isn't 'goes back to how it was' but 'equal access to everyone'.

If the change to include metro zones is true he'd likely be draft eligible for Adelaide but his draft chances are quite remote, rookie chance at best unless he absolutely lights it up next year.

Given the quality of players coming Ports way in the next few years, I hope the AFC are one of the clubs pushing for all club access to these players, especially if they are top 20. If the tables were turned the feral scum would be the most vocal pushing for change.

What is the go with Stevens. I thought he was to be a Father Son prospect but there has been no word about him and the club. Would appreciate it if anyone has the good oil about him.
We didn't nominate him and have no list spots available

We can still draft him, but obviously don't see him as a priority.

If the Carlton trade goes through good chance our third pick is in the 50s and we shall see it Stevens is around the mark on our talent list.
I have missed this trade.

What is happening?

They're talking about swapping our 2025 & 2026 1st round picks for Carlton's 2x 2025 1st round picks (currently #9 and #11). Presumably with some swapping of steak knives as well.

On the night, can you undertake a pick trade, AFTER a player has been bid on ? ......I assume you can

Yes.

However, given that we haven't nominated Stevens as a F/S player, we have no right to match any "bid". Indeed, there is no bidding as far as Stevens is concerned - it's just a club selecting a player to which no other club has any special rights.

My query was more in relation to a bid on CARL's Dean
