good reading

But but but what about in the dying 30 seconds of a game that we are winning by less than a goal and JLO throws Treacy back into defense? What a shit defensively minded coach 😤
It worked at least twice during the season in the North and Pies games, maybe in another too (Port?). In the Final they went early with three minutes to go and not sure it was the coach making that call or on field duo of Ryan & Cox. Overall the strategy was a good one and we fixed up our close losses but you can't win them all.

Don’t we rely on our far side winger to get back and help the back 6 on defensive transition? I recall Acres and Sharp being used that way.

The opportunity cost is that that player generally doesn’t have a licence to push hard forward when we have the ball. Think of how Geelong use Oliver Dempsey in that role- he kicks heaps of goals from the goal square basically.

Hopefully my sarcasm was clear, as I agree with you

But of a fall from grace for Whan if he only ends up a Cat B given how he was touted earlier this year.
He must have been really poor in the national championships, especially given this isn’t a strong draft class

I firmly believe we should be implicitly encouraging our NGA's to tank their draft years to preserve our high draft picks for ND and trades.
If any players ever even agreed to do this, it would already be an early sign they don’t have the mentality to make it at the top level.

Not to mention the impact it would have on their development in crucial formative years.

20. Mitch Marsh (Fremantle)

Kangarilla/West Adelaide/South Australia
Forward, 190cm, 15/2/2007
SANFL U18 stats (avg): 12.5 disposals, 6.1 marks, 2 goals
U18 champs stats (avg): 8.5 disposals, 6 marks, 3 goals
2025 All-Australian
The Dockers gleefully drafted 2025 Rising Star winner Murphy Reid at around this pick last year, and could unearth another bargain in Marsh, who kicked the most goals at the 2025 championships. He emerged from the carnival as a top-10 contender who some thought could play other positions, but appears to have slid after a so-so end to the season. But the talent and upside are there, and Marsh could add to a talented Freo forward line.

If not: The Dockers could place a bid on West Coast next-generation academy forward Tylah Williams, or might punt on upside with one of All-Australian winger Harley Barker or talented forward Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves.
