Michael Stevens for Stuart Cochrane confirmed

On the upside, Michael Stevens isn't at Port any more.

Listening to the Roos supporters, it also makes me think that we should have have tried to trade Steinberner to the Cats.

Yeah Michael Stevens, what a disappointment, No 5 pick who has his better footy to come.

No need to weep, we've made selection mistakes before. We took Rombotis at a similar pick in 96, he ended up worse than Downsborough....

Might as well take what we can get now instead of taking the gamble that he becomes an absolute dud (instead of just a dud) in the next couple of years. He had his chances and blew them.

I just wish Scott Bassett was given the same chances as Stevens was given.

THe positive is that atleast Cochrane has proved he can play at AFl level while M Stevens was still only going to be a gamble. He may still turn out to be a handy player but he had enough time to prove himself at Port and couldn't do it. Good luck to NM with him.

To be honest Cochrane wouldn't make our starting 22 IMO but will be a handy backup, more so than Stevens was.

I assume Cochrane is going to follow Nick Stevens around all preseason until Nick learns to break a tag.

If I was coach I'd make Cochrane follow Nick home and sleep in his bed as well.

Just think - if Cochrane can show Nick how to beat his tagging, Nick will be unstoppable!

Nick Stevens is doing cartwheels down Port Road, don't think Ive seen him happier!
Jabsy u say he is a dud but look at the time it took players like Johnstone (from Melb) and Headland to develop.
No 7 pick John Rombotis, haha, what did we get for him, wan't it Chris Naish?
Kouloriotis No 12 in the strongest draft yet. Do you think he is a development player or another dud?

Koulouriotis has always been a project player.

It's sad to lose Michael Stevens but I'm sure as hell happy for him because he gets to play with his brother and he doesn't have to put up with Wayne Carey.

Headland is no comparison to Stevens. Johnstone maybe, and I'd rather either of them than Stevens.

Koula hasn't had the chances that Stevens has on-field. Bit hard to make a comparison there. So far he looks like a dud, but I'd have kept him over Stevens anyway.

I think all players taken at that age are development players, it'd be mighty rare to have a #1 pick play 20 games in their first season.

Did we end up with Byron? Those scumbags on the AFL site haven't updated anything yet and it's been over 20 minutes!! I'm impatient as all hell!!!

Not great stats but i wonder how much game time he actually received in those 17 games he played. My guess would be under 10 full games. But still 9 disposals and 2 marks a game isn't flash either.

I think technically Connor Rozee was still contributed to by the Matthew Bode to Adelaide trade from 25 years ago.

Bode became Shaun Burgoyne. Burgoyne became Jasper Pittard + extra. Pittard + extra became Connor Rozee.

Great trade, still paying dividends.

We have done particularly well trading with the Roos over the years.
I heard we offered Stuart Cochrane's dad an MG to get this over the line

Good man Stuart. I didn't realise he played 19 games in 2004, unlucky to miss out.Stuart
That last guernsey went to Schofield and there were 2 unlucky to miss selection - Stuart & Brett Ebert. To me it was line ball as that 22nd & last selection would not have changed the result. I would have personally selected Brett for thar 22nd position. All academic now!

Salopek also unlucky that year - played the first 11 games and then went down with glandular fever.
