Religion Bondi shooting - 16 confirmed dead at Jewish event

voices are getting louder now, decrying the events and lead up to this. A prominent Jewish leader was on 3AW stating just this, for too long have leaders done nothing about anti semetic attacks and protests involving the neo nazis.
The guy from melbourne i heard on the radio was very subdued. A Rabbi, he was audibly upset, one of the dead was a guy he nodded to on the street nearly every day, and the daughter of a friend. He called lamented that australians had become so polarised in their views, and wanted us to return to the melting pot we used to be.

He's right...people on here do it...if you agree with X then you must belong in that category.

dont disagree at all.

i think no PM whether they be liberal or labor would resign

If Prime Ministers resigned after a shooting of this type....there would be a lot more shootings of this type. Best the shooters don't don't achieve anything except dishonour and contempt.

Identities being released. Victims include 10y/o child, French nationals, Israeli nationals, a Holocaust survivor, a rabbi with a 2 month old child. :disrelieved:
Bloody hell, survive the Holocaust, then get gunned down in old age by a couple POS lunatics at a celebration on an Aussie beach. There really is no justice.

While I'm posting here, I don't generally. Unless I'm at the footy I'm really not a contentious person. I like to keep up with how all sides view any given current event but I don't feel like my personal input is ever really warranted and outside of a few areas where I'm confidently partisan because I believe what I know I'd really just be dismissed for "both siderism" an awful lot. But I did want to say that I just feel really awful for a lot of people today.

I really feel for the victims and their familes. Nobody deserves this level of heartbreak. I also feel for the Jewish community who feel yet another level of hatred and attack on their community and their tribe. That's a lot to take on and another really hurtful act of persecution must weigh deeply. I really feel for the vast majority of Muslims who don't want violence and feel this father and son have damaged their own community, their faith and may faced persecution from this that they neither deserve nor feel is fair.

I also just feel for the people who have kids, have seen innocent kids being killed and are feeling that grief themselves. This is a really awful day for an awful lot of people. I'd hope we can focus on being there for people for now and focus on more preventative measures after some healing has taken place.

Imagine if US Presidents resigned after every mass shooting. They would be up to hundreds of presidents.

The guy was allowed to keep 6 guns at his home and drive around with them.

He only broke a law once he started shooting at people (other than the planning, obviously).

So I reckon we can do a little tightening.

there are strict requirements already around storing fire arms at home.

also driving around with a firearm is also heavily regulated. IE ammo must be transported separately in locked containers etc to the actual gun.

So actually, these dipshits broke gun control laws far before they shot at anyone.

which is kinda the point. You can only regulate things to a certain point, if an evil person wants to do an evil thing they will do it. Australia is already at that point of incredibly heavy gun regulation. IMO the next step is to remove them entirely from the community.

It's also concerning seeing how many people say "why didn't the civvie just put a round in his leg" with the rifle as if that's just an easy thing to do in that situation and should be standard practice. Adrenaline, inexperience, pressure, personal squeamishness all need to be factored in. It would be very difficult even at close range to do that with such a small target and no guarantee of a second shot.

People with no experience shooting a gun don't realise how how it is to hit a stationary target at a gun range, let alone a moving target, whose gun you've just taken from them in the midst of a shooting.

It does raise the question about what point the right to protest remains sacrosanct, if theres a view that these constant protests create division and hate. I used to be firmly in right to protest camp, but im not so sure now.

Gavin,

The right to protest should remain protected the content and nature of the protests has been allowed to become too hateful. Flags that bear the same colours and a “somewhat similar” logo to the Hamas or Isis flags, statements like “Abolish Australia” that mask hatred towards our very being - these are the sorts of things that should have been more heavily addressed.

Regards

S. Pete

Stopping people from protesting about what the Israelis are doing in Palestine isn’t going to avert acts like this. The overwhelming majority of people who don’t like seeing innocents being murdered by a nuclear state in the tens of thousands aren’t going to like seeing dozens of innocents getting shot on a beach either.

Too much hate allowed to fester for too long - this was inevitable. These hate mongers will be at the vigils with their Palestinian flags and their keffiyehs.
You really believe that? Again, because of the 'policies' of a government it contributes to the endangerment of its citizens and people of the Jewish faith.

Have you ever looked at a contrary view of some of the accusations of antisemitism (it unquestionably exists) but the latest one being that 4 countries who pulled out of a dopey song competition in protest at Israel being participants are a result of antisemitism.

I don't think the suits in power in Israel nor the media who write it even believe it themselves

From my social media feed all left wing pro Palestinian figures have offered unequivocal condemnation of the killings without any attempt to blame Israel.

As was posted earlier in the thread the Australian already has an opinion piece published blaming Albo.

Someone in a city doesnt need to keep guns. He is a member of a gun club. Keep them there.

There is a simple one.

Also, I wonder how often people drive to the gun club with their guns, then drive back and pick up the ammo? Im guessing never.

I thought he meant that people on here do the "if you believe in X therefore you are a Y" part
ie polarised, non nuanced view of others.
We have the advantage here of being a relatively small community on the SRP (in terms of regulars) and so we have a bit more ability to be nuanced around what we know each others posting histories to be.
THough more self deprecation would help reduce the tone as well I guess (ie posting your own views as opinions and being able to articulate that you could be incorrect)

You really don't understand anything about firearms.

So spot on. Nobody knows what theyd do in that situation. Easy to chirp on a keyboard. I’m just glad that hero was big enough to be able to wrap both arms around neck and weapon too.

shot gun at that close of range would be deadly even if leg shot.. if you hit the femoral artery would bleed out in seconds.

also there is no audio, iirc there was cop not far away probably screaming at him to put down the gun, if he had of shot the terrorist the cop probably would've shot him.

Unfortunately I've already seen quite a large number of people, with Palestinian flags in their profile, yesterday claiming it was a 'false flag'.

It was Abdurrahman Wahid. He was actually a renowned Muslim religious leader as well and dedicated much of his presidency to protecting the rights of non Muslim minorities.

He seemed like a genuinely decent politician so naturally he was removed from power after only two years as president.
Cheers. Must read up on this or watch the documentary. Doesn't surprise that a State would collude with terrorists, but why the government of the victims don't call it out is disturbing.
