So the only thing we can conclude about the draft is that no one has a frigging clue what will happen.

Sarah Black says teams are wary of Cowcher's back injury, and she might slip as far as West Coast. Please God.

Other then the fact that Gold Coast are being handed half a team of first rounders (we all know that) I have to agree with you.

I think for picks past 5 or 6, its going to be less about well laid plans, and more about responding as circumstances unfold. Every draft guide I have seen is wildly different about the order, and who they think clubs will take past the first handful of picks.

Late mail this morning draft whispers.
Eagles to potentially land a draft bolter.
Given the lack of tall marking forwards not attached to GC or SYD WC tried to get pick 1 and grab Wolmarans.
They failed and many see WC coming for Abby Hobson with their 2nd pick as a draft bolter.

Seems there is some intel, no intel and guessing?
A contested marking specialist, who is a little slower than the likes of Mackereth & Blizard and same size??
Maybe something there or a double bluff?

Ali Drennan mention

Good to hear that McDonald is feeling better and is able to resume playing again. I do feel that she'll need a very good year to earn another contract. Unfortunately with the low number of AFLW contracts per team, it's hard to keep players on your list who are significant risks of missing a lot of time, especially if those players are somewhat marginal from a talent perspective.

Drennan is also a weird one. The club would obviously know what the personal issue is and whether it's likely to affect her availability next season. Again, given that there are only 30 list spots I'm not sure that I'd keep one for a player who missed half of last season through personal issues and is well into the decline phase of her career.

If we get to pick 36 ( or what ever the hell # it bobbles out to be ) and we have a choice from all three of:

  • Mackereth
  • Blizard
  • Hobson
I would be delighted and surprised.

I am hoping for Cowcher but with the unpredictability of this draft I would not be surprised if either Jordyn Allen or Taylor McMillian slide to our pick.

I really would like a rebounding defender with one of our first two picks. :praying:

But wishing on one hand and actually getting on the other are two very different things.

Perfect draft for me would be:

Eve Cowcher
Eloise Mackereth

Mackereth has all the skills and tricks to her game and IF she can find some consistency to her game she could be a Star, thats the only thing holding her back from being a top 20 pick.

I wish clubs weren't so stingy on announcing contract info (years not money) cos Drennan could still be under contract for like two more years but we're talking about delisting her now when we have no idea what her contracts like.

In the two years I've been following the Eagles AFLW IG account I've only ever seen like 3 re-signing announcements. When Cleaver and Kav re-signed last year, when Schilling re-signed for 3 years this time last year and when Rentsch, Painter and a couple more players re-signed after round 1.

Whilst thats good news for Sophie Mac, she will need to be at her best otherwise she isn't dislodging Cleaver from the team.
CHB is an option and Roxy can play HBF, that could release Rentsch to play on the wing.

A fit and firing Drennan would allow a "triway" mid/forward rotation for Ella and Painter that would be problematic for opposing coaches to counter, as all three are effective forwards but all bring differing traits and skill sets to their forward craft.

I wonder if the Sophie Mac news would have a bearing on us taking Crane if she was best available for us with our first pick, it shouldn't do, but as I have said above, that will very much depend of who is still on the board for our first round pick.

Seems Drennan is most likely gone and C Lindgren probably getting her list spot.

Makes our KPF stocks fairly average even if L Wakfer has had a very good year, Riggs looks an absolute ripper talent, Franklin seems to have not taken her oppurtunity to take the number 1 KPF role.

WC need another KPF option and with Gibson only a medium forward and coming towards the end you can see why they have been keen to add through trade or draft a KPF.

The likes of Blizard/Mackereth/Hobson are all that 174cm types with the first 2 very athletic types.

Fearn-Wannan/Hazlehurst seem to be the tall utility types around the 2nd round who have that great athletic base, being a bit taller at 177cm makes them more in the KP size?

Good call out on these two.

In particular, I think Asher Fearn-Wannan is a player that Daisy will absolutely love and would very much suit our evolving game style, with her blistering pace and run and carry. plus she is a good two way runner.
He athletic traits are elite.

In many ways she actually reminds me of a left footed version of Rentsch with out the bash and crash, her foot speed appears quite a lot quicker than Rentsch, particularly her first five step burst breakaway speed, and her overhead marking is a strong point too.

AFW could easily play off a HBF or a wing and be a very damaging player.

Cowcher would be elite if she slipped, injury aside she seems to be 1 of the most talented players in the draft.
Was it you that mentioned Mackereth recently?
Those 2 would make a dream draft.

Ahh just saw your post when I replied.
Cowcher/Mackereth draft would allow Rentsch and Painter to be our dynamic midfield group with all the strength, toughness and skills to complement E Roberts and the other outside learning players.
That would be a serious starting 3!!

Yep I am a big fan of her work, I think with Lwakfer and Riggs holding the two key forward spots, then EM could be a very dangerous third tall.
I would give her a brief to play high and roam wide, additionally she has just as much scope to play on a wing, her arrival would relegate Franky, if that in fact hasn't already happened.

To compete with the better teams we need to improve in these areas:

  • Two way running and general leg speed, particular our breakaway, burst speed.
  • Clean ball possession, we need player who are one touch and just don't fumble.
  • Players with, a minimum good to elite foot skills. ( A No Ball Butcher List )

If Richmond do this, and pick a forward when they desperately need more A+ mids, then in all seriousness, if I were Daisy, I'd go have a word to Mon Conti and ask if she's happy having to carry this stupid team and their stupid list decisions all the time. And if she'd like to come somewhere where we'd absolutely never do that to her.

In today’s random training appearance by an AFLW player it looked like Belinda Smith doing several laps. Not sure it was her as she was wearing a cap and I’m not particularly adept at identifying the AFLW players but looking through the player photos, Smith was the one who closest resembled the player running laps
