So we gave up pick 18 this year, received a former #1 pick for pick in the draft #37, and based on 2025 ladder positions, have picks 14 and 18 in 2026 draft.......good trading!
I hadn't been across it but it's a strange trade with a fellow preliminary finalist.

Suggests we saw nobody of priority in the 10-25 region so were happy to cash out.

The F2 for F3 swap makes us the more eager party in the trade.

If we had held onto our first rounder this year, it would have been pick 25, and we would probably have been obligated to take KLWT with that.
If we had passed on her at 25 and taken someone else, then other clubs might have felt she was then fair game to take.
To get KLWT, and a F1 seems like a bonus.

As for the future picks:
  • Carlton were vastly improved this year, but they should have a tougher draw, so might drop off.
  • Wherever their F1 winds up, it will almost certainly be better than 25.
  • Our F2 will very likely be in the high 30's again, so the difference between our F2 and their F3 might not be that many spots.
  • Next year's draft is supposed to better (and not as many GC academy picks).
  • More picks next year also seems to better suit where our list is currently at (not as many list spots available this year, with some probable retirements at the end of next season).

Blues needed another R1 this year to make a trade happen with Crows I think it was.
We were probably keen to remove it and trade into next years stronger draft.
We may have been worried about list spots this year and have more spots to use next year.
Two R1's and five R3's (Pies, Port, Swans, Blues, NM) gives us scope to move up the order.

It was actually Gold Cost.
These are the 2 relevant trades:

Dec 5: Roos, Blues complete pick swap

North Melbourne receives:
a 2026 first-round pick (tied to Carlton) and a 2026 third-round pick (tied to Carlton)

Carlton receives:
a first-round pick (currently No.19) and a 2026 second-round pick (tied to North Melbourne)

Dec 7: Blues land Suns pair

Carlton receives:
Lauren Bella and Claudia Whitfort

Gold Cost Suns receive:
a first-round pick (currently no.19) and a 2026 second-round selection (tied to North Melbourne)

Gold Cost needed pick 19 to match one of first round bids on their academy rorts girls.

In the end, fairly straightforward and understandable for all 3 teams.

You could say it was a win, win, win result.
(Which also means it was a lose, lose, lose, lose, lose, lose, lose, lose, lose, lose, lose, lose, lose, lose, lose result for all of the other teams ;)).

Oh okay. My bad. Thought it might of been part of the Boileau trade just from memory, but GC makes more sense.

If ya don’t mind me asking. What are you referring to here Tas re circus ?

Just the media focus on her leaving the dogs, being a former number one pick, etc and putting a lot of pressure on her. Media tends to get one soundbite and pigeonhole you for the rest of your life. You can almost guarantee that in every interview they have this will be mentioned or be a focus of their conversation rather than who she is now, how she is going, etc.
