Chief time to close the thread methinks.

Chief

Close the thread mods please. People in here will never be convinced no matter what their beliefs.

Lets call it an over.

Grow up. This is a politics, relion and society discussion forum.

Feel free to go elsewhere and put your head in the sand if you can't handle what's being discussed here and can't contribute anything other than wanting it all to go away.

Because like it or not the things being talked about here are going to define politics in Australia for the next decade . They deserve to be debated.

Yep. And he rightly highlights the measured intelligent statement put out by the Jewish Council of Australia that I linked a few days back not long after the tragedy and which it has now expanded on to include these observations:

“Responses to this terrorist attack should be squarely focused on keeping Jewish people and all communities safe, not fulfilling a pro-Israel wishlist.”

“Jewish people, and people from every single racialised group, deserve safety, and we deserve solutions that truly deliver it. Our safety and the safety of every other marginalised group go hand in hand. We need to be strengthening connections between communities and cultivating grassroots efforts to tackle racism at its core.”

"The Jewish Council urges the Prime Minister to ensure that the Government’s response remains grounded in evidence, focused on prevention, the widest possible consultation and committed to unity."

If our media, including the ABC, are serious about getting an understanding of the response to this tragedy from those most affected and providing the Australian community with a proper understanding of the facts of the situation then why are they not quoting those sources instead of the likes of former politicians like Josh Frydenberg and John Howard?

To labour the point - why do they play the role of the Pavlov's Dogs (get my dog whistling reference) whenever John Howard is rolled out by conservatives want to light up their ageing and dwindling supporter base? What possible relevance does he have in 2025?

The answer is of course - their interest is in promoting clicks and division for their feeds and TV news services and not one bit interested in informing.

We can sadly expect this from the commercial Nine and Seven media networks and, of course, the bilious Murdoch press. But to see the taxpayer funded ABC play the same game, with a few noted exceptions, is completely unacceptable.

Sad, sad week.

1) Bibi needs to apologise to Australia, not the other way around.
2) most muslim people have come here in search of a better life and are not extremists.
3) We need to hardline a speech, along the lines of it is a privilege to live in this country.
You agree to live here, you must follow and obey our laws, and respect our way of life.
You must leave the old world behind and live with us and amongst us.
You must make a sacrifice to live here, and we will make the sacrifice to bring you in and support you.
4) NO protests on foreign affairs. The protests have done nothing but fuelled the fires of HATE.
Don't like what is going on? Go overseas and protest there.
5) No justification for what happened in Bondi. it's a rotten, hateful attack and a disgraceful act of terror.

The ABC do not set the media narrative or agenda - Newscorp do. That is what 70% media domination buys.

Some epic virtue signalling in this thread.
True, some appear at pains to stigmatise the whole Muslim community, pretend that others don't care about Jewish lives as much as they do, and/or show they blame the current government.

I think you make a good point that the decision to live here should serve as a change in mindset. Consequently, I dont like seeing people being given residency and then moving back to their former countries for long periods. Also, fighting in the military for foreign countries should be banned after a person takes citizenship. A man cannot serve two masters. I would even question whether dual citizenship should be allowed.

Everyone needs to chill out a bit.
That’s the annoying thing about terrorist massacres. They tend not to be conducing to ‘chilling out’. Even if for just ‘a bit’. ;)

I think albo is a weak leader,
And when a leader in a federated democracy tries to take a calm long term and measured response, cognisant of both what damage inflammatory politically charged statements could have on the fabric of community cohesion; and the Constitutional limits of their federal powers to respond to such a tragedy are, they get the label of being ‘weak’.

The real weakness is of course when those living off the fruit of their taxpayer given political careers and who understand these things, try to exploit them for personal gain.

I agree with all your points expect 4.

People have the right to protest about whatever they want. Has to be done in a peaceful way though & anyone stepping out of line needs to face the consequences.

And ISIS are basically not accepted as Muslim, so it's not relevant anyway.

Screeching like prep student is weak leadership (as seen from the libs, fried fredo and the media)

Chad Comrade Albanese

well isis is to muslim, what zionist is to jewish....but of course, the moderators might see things differently.
Yikes, that's an awful comparison. Zionism originates in a justified movement for a Jewish homeland in Israel, formed as a response to antisemitism, and remains a core belief held by most Jewish people. Modern-day Israel for mine has shifted Zionism away from its original purpose. Bibi and his goons are reprehensible, but equating them with violent fringe extremists like ISIS is waaaaay out on the full.
