This is the closest we've got to an upcoming match and with the continued odd announcements of the squads, felt like a dedicated thread would work best

As we already know:

with Little Man Mitchell also announced as an assistant to Scott

Regarding player selection criteria - A player’s eligibility will be based on the location of the junior club from where they were drafted.

I'll start filling in some player announcements, but I'm likely going to miss a few

Hate the idea of players doing this and getting hurt

I know could happen anywhere - just not a fan of that..

Did luv watching GAS back in the day however

They could just as easily get hurt playing intraclubs.

As a kid I loved state of origin. Now with a national competition I honestly couldn't give a rat's tossbag about this game, makes it look like trying to copy rugbaleeg (which copied Australian Rules originally).

Someone's gonna do an ACL or something bad, just hope it's not one of our guys - intraclubs aren't the same intensity as this will be.

Really don't see why we need Stewart and Cameron playing, with one coming off a broken arm and the other now copping an injury every few games and with a history of concussion. There are enough high-quality but healthier players available for Vic.

They probably want to play. Both are at the back end of their careers and dont know if they will get another opportunity after this year.

Conspiracy theory: we have to put forward two names so we put forward names we then can withdraw because of niggling injury concerns

The only issue I really have is the timing for all players.
The community series is played at 3/4 rat power. We know that.

But pride won't allow these guys to take this softly.
I expect some soft tissue concerns across both teams due to it being so early in the year.

But if I'd played AFL for 10 years there's just no way I'd say no to playing.

I used to know Bill goggin, and I brought up the issue of mid week games being too hard on them. This was when he coached vic.
And he said 'they will come back even better'.

And he was right. It was as if training and playing with elite players tuned them up.

Big 2 year rise for humphries.
I think this is great news for Laws. After a middling season, he really stepped up in a GF where so many of our boys were well beaten. And this contest puts him in the arena with the very best players across the entire competition.

His rise from reserves footy in W.A. a couple of years ago has been nothing less than meteoric. Really looking forward to seeing him test himself against so many elite opponents in this match.

He really shouldn't be playing
Agreed. We should be preserving and managing Danger as much as possible. Having him disrupt his pre-season to do this, where he can get banged-up more and risk injury, doesn't lend itself well to that goal. Aside from that, I would no longer consider Dangerfield to be one of the top Victorian players anymore. Yes, he had a great prelim but that was a literal once-in-a-season performance. Why not let some other, younger players shine?

I'm getting the feeling that a lot of coaches don't want their top players participating, but given our coach has said yes to the coaching gig, he now feels obliged to allow an abundance of Cats players to be picked in their stead.

He shouldn't be but its his last chance to play and hes a HOF and a huge name that will get people to watch i can understand why hes been picked.
