Where does the SCG rank now for Aussie Cricket Grounds

Take away the history, the SCG has to be the fourth ranked test venue now with Perth and Adelaide clearly overtaking them, just interested for peoples thoughts:

1: MCG (History and only ground that can take 70k plus on Boxing day)
2: Adelaide (Traditinal mixed well with modern, with Perth capacity wise)
3: Perth (History of arena is the only reason its not equal second)
4: SCG (Great History but capaicty now below grounds above it)
5: Gabba (On detah row anyway)
6: Hobart (Hope we play 2 x 3 test series going forward when its not India or Engand deserves more test cricket especially if new stadium is approved for test cricket)
7: Canberra (Good back up ground)

The Perth stadium has come a long way over the past few summers, especially seeing as no test was there in 20/21 and 21/22. The authorities did say that the W.A.C.A would still be used for test cricket for smaller nations. I highly doubt that now.


Next summer sees 7 tests:
2 - MCG
1 - Optus
1 - Adelaide
1 - SCG
1 - Darwin
1 - Mackay (new test venue and Australia's 12th)

See where your comming from, but cant see 90k on boxing day for the ashes being beat for atmosphere thats why I have it number 1.

Its just a shame we cant go to a smaller venue for days 2 to 5

In order, Ive been to 5 of those 7 grounds mentioned:

1. Perth Stadium
2. MCG
3. Adelaide Oval (I havent been there yet)
4. SCG
5. GABBA
6. Hobart ( I havent been there yet)
7. Manuka


SCG has slipped for me, one of the more difficult grounds to get around and transportation.

SCG is a great venue to watch cricket, and usually has a good wicket to back it up.

The view from the Trumper Stand toward the Members and Ladies Pavilions with the city in the background is one of the best.

One thing it has over the others is no drop-in pitches, yet, and the preserved pavilion, which the MCG obviously demolished.

It did not retain the old scoreboard that Adelaide and WACA have. It needs to bring it back.

I do love the old scoreboards, there's just somethiung "cricket" about them. It would be great to use it a secondary board or at a new home (like the former MCG board at Manuka). But its hard to know whare they fit in today's stadiums. It can hardly be parked at the back of the SCG hill any more and very expensive to move (and more expensive to operate than electronic boards) to one of the grounds to be used for top end series.

SCG is a great venue to watch cricket, and usually has a good wicket to back it up.

The Great Barrier Reef Cricket Arena has them all covered. So beautiful, so much history

Always great for cricket but isnt the same since they seated the grass yabbas hill.

Seams over done nowadays the SCG.

Only charm left is the members stands ladys stands.

Love them.

Bit boring the rest of the ground.

Always seams small and compact.

Very close feel.

I like it but was better in the 1980s and 1990s tho.

Kind of progress has caught up with the ground.

To me North Sydney oval is way better kind of like the original SCG.
