Take away the history, the SCG has to be the fourth ranked test venue now with Perth and Adelaide clearly overtaking them, just interested for peoples thoughts:

1: MCG (History and only ground that can take 70k plus on Boxing day)
2: Adelaide (Traditinal mixed well with modern, with Perth capacity wise)
3: Perth (History of arena is the only reason its not equal second)
4: SCG (Great History but capaicty now below grounds above it)
5: Gabba (On detah row anyway)
6: Hobart (Hope we play 2 x 3 test series going forward when its not India or Engand deserves more test cricket especially if new stadium is approved for test cricket)
7: Canberra (Good back up ground)

The Perth stadium has come a long way over the past few summers, especially seeing as no test was there in 20/21 and 21/22. The authorities did say that the W.A.C.A would still be used for test cricket for smaller nations. I highly doubt that now.

Next summer sees 7 tests:
2 - MCG
1 - Optus
1 - Adelaide
1 - SCG
1 - Darwin
1 - Mackay (new test venue and Australia's 12th)

Obviously a personal preference, but for the life of me I can't understand why people like watching cricket in a football stadium.

1. Adelaide
2. SCG
3. Bellerive
4. Manuka
The Rest
See where your comming from, but cant see 90k on boxing day for the ashes being beat for atmosphere thats why I have it number 1.

Its just a shame we cant go to a smaller venue for days 2 to 5

In order, Ive been to 5 of those 7 grounds mentioned:

1. Perth Stadium
2. MCG
3. Adelaide Oval (I havent been there yet)
4. SCG
5. GABBA
6. Hobart ( I havent been there yet)
7. Manuka

SCG has slipped for me, one of the more difficult grounds to get around and transportation.

SCG is a great venue to watch cricket, and usually has a good wicket to back it up.

The view from the Trumper Stand toward the Members and Ladies Pavilions with the city in the background is one of the best.

One thing it has over the others is no drop-in pitches, yet, and the preserved pavilion, which the MCG obviously demolished.

It did not retain the old scoreboard that Adelaide and WACA have. It needs to bring it back.

I do love the old scoreboards, there's just somethiung "cricket" about them. It would be great to use it a secondary board or at a new home (like the former MCG board at Manuka). But its hard to know whare they fit in today's stadiums. It can hardly be parked at the back of the SCG hill any more and very expensive to move (and more expensive to operate than electronic boards) to one of the grounds to be used for top end series.

Not that confident about the wicket anymore

Always great for cricket but isnt the same since they seated the grass yabbas hill.

Seams over done nowadays the SCG.

Only charm left is the members stands ladys stands.

Love them.

Bit boring the rest of the ground.

Always seams small and compact.

Very close feel.

I like it but was better in the 1980s and 1990s tho.

Kind of progress has caught up with the ground.

To me North Sydney oval is way better kind of like the original SCG.

North Sydney oval if you want charm.

Bit of an update as I visited Adelaide Oval this weekend.

1. Adelaide Oval
2. Perth Stadium
3. SCG
4. MCG
5. GABBA

7. Manuka

Any stadium that can integrate a bit of nature and green wins. I need to do more cricket visits to Adelaide. I also don't mind the CBD being close to the ground as well. Also noticed that the old scoreboard still exists which is historic in that sense.

MCG might be the biggest in terms of capacity but Im going to rate the SCG a bit more better than the MCG- for the city skyline from a certain vantage point. Some of the views can be a bit hard to see when a ball gets hit up in the air at the MCG. The best seats at the cricket at the MCG for me are in the 2nd or 3rd tier.

In terms of the smaller boutique stadiums that don't get to host cricket as regularly:

1. Cairns
2. Great Barrier Reef Arena
3. WACA
4. Metricon Stadium (Gold Coast)
5. North Sydney Oval
6. Geelong
7. Marvel
8. Allan Border Field
9. ENGIE Stadium
10. Stadium Australia (when it did host cricket there)
11. Sydney Cricket Central
12. Drummoyne Oval
10. Blacktown International Sports Park

Drummoyne, Sydney Cricket Central and Blacktown aren't customer friendly venues.........they are at best player warmup facilities for main games. I struggle to see why even they host WBBL warm-up games there. Unless you want to shoot cricket in the foot, you host games there. Ask any spectator that attends games there if they enjoy commuting there, I doubt you will get a yes. ENGIE Stadium and Stadium Australia rank lowly because again access and train links to-and-after games on certain days are pathetic.

Allan Border Field is nice and has potential but I had to walk 25 minutes to the nearest train station to get back to the CBD. Also not great of a fan of the layout of the seating of the ground.

Kardinia Park in Geelong might be good for AFL Footy but it will never be a proper cricket facility for me. I understand they have a new curator so they are trying to change things up. Maybe its time for the Renegades to move to Geelong permanently to establish a proper home ground advantage. I believe playing at Marvel and Geelong in a split dilutes that home ground advantage. Even though I believe there are alot of similarities of the ground dimensions of Marvel and Kardinia Park- if you ask the Perth Scorchers to play a split of games at WACA and Perth Stadium- you would notice them have a variation in performance in the same season at the venues.

Stadiums yet to visit that Im keen which would give me a better overall perspective: Karen Rolton Oval, Hobart Stadium, Launceston, the one Darwin which hosted the recent T20 series against South Africa.

In an alternate universe, I wonder what the WACA could’ve been had it had the Adelaide oval approach of being redeveloped to include modern stands and amenities but maintain scenery and historic monuments like the old scoreboard overlooking the Swan River. Love Optus for footy but for test cricket, the WACA will always be the home of WA cricket to me.

The problem with the WACA was mainly come the end of its international era, the capacity limited the demand. It was the right move to move to Optus as even catering to a 30k crowd for Scorchers game was worthy enough.

Maybe if there was to ever be a 2nd BBL franchise , I could see a world where it gets used again. Given the success of the Scorchers , it would be one of the more historic grounds to not be used as well.

I mean it still gets enough cricket there , as it hosts the womens test match come February- what other fixtures would you like to be hosted there? Clearly if its going to host something it has to be somewhere in the vicinity of 9k-10k.

As a 2nd option in each state- it is far superior than : ENGIE (Thunders home ground), Junction Oval (in Melbourne with no floodlights), Allan Border Field (as capacity is limited). I havent been to Karen Rolton so can't really comment there.

If WA were ever able to pinch a 2nd test in the summer in the home state a bit like how MacKay have got a test match pencilled in for QLD in early spring- the WACA should be in consideration.
