This thread is becoming increasingly popular, and to keep some sort of order, we will have some….

Rules of engagement:

1. Bring valid news or links to Twitter posts from notable sources. Don’t post screenshots or “some bloke just said on SEN” or what some “trade whisperer” has posted on a Facebook page.

2. Ignore what other team boards are putting up as trade offers. Don’t quote or bring them here either.

3. Don’t post “buckle up” for the lols.

4. If you can’t say anything nice about Worpel or CJ, don’t say anything at all. The continued slaps and backhanders are just going to be deleted.

Moorey also mentioned he went to Bigfooty to check if it was true that he'd been delisted when there was a rumour of it.
He actually said he'd checked bigfooty to see if there was a rumour of him being traded.

Genuinely hate the suns. They basically offload the players they see as expendable for premium draft picks (as most are gifted first round picks)

When it comes to players like Humphrey, they dont budge regardless of the issues

Plastic fantastic club that have been given the world by the AFL in order to succeed. I have no doubt that it Humphrey asks for a trade again this year they will say no again and not blink an eyelid

Pretty sure we are still not very well liked by GC higher ups for the JOM situation.

Very bitter at us poaching their golden child and I'd daresay they will dig their heels in for Humphrey.

Any other club and they'd let them walk over them.

Disgusting from the Suns. Mental health be damned. Poor guy
Reports at the time suggested Hardwick was sympathetic to Humphrey's reasons for wanting to return but those above him in the hierarchy put their foot down.

I wouldn't be surprised if they relent to his request in a year's time. Holding a player against their will isn't great for team spirit and culture. That's something Hardwick would be aware of but perhaps the suits above him aren't.

Not a great look for the Suns but not as bad as the Welsh fiasco at the Bombers.

Professionally-run clubs like Hawthorn would never hold a player if they wanted to leave for personal reasons.
[I couldn't include Geelong because they did hold Jordan Clark and Tim Kelly for a season before allowing them to return to Perth.]

Not to say Hardwick wasn’t sympathetic to him leaving but Hardwick could have been the one who didn’t want to let him go.

They only have to spin the story that way so Hardwick still looks like the good guy in Humphrey’s eyes. Rather than risk any sort of falling out.

Easier to put the blame on those Humphrey won’t have much dealings with.

And we held Tyler Brockman too.

I think for Gold Coast they will likely finish the year playing finals again. They will either be premiers or know exactly what they need to target to improve. I think with Petracca and the talent from recent drafts coming in, they are very very close to a premiership list and I don't think Humphrey is essential to that, a great key cog, but it's not anderson or rowell.

They may want to target a running defender or wingman or backup key defender etc...Trading Humphrey could be key to unlock a strong need for them. This year they could get petracca and 2x top 5 picks by only using later first round picks.

They probably won that trade. Nonetheless, the push back re JOM was all AFL controlled and driven. I imagine Humphrey was the same.

But they are happy enough to trade high 1st round picks plus 1st round players to other clubs.

Wasn't against his will, which I'd suggest was the key difference between his and Kelly's cases.

Happy to be corrected on this but here's my recollection:

Brockman and Kelly both wanted to return to WA, where they had the support network of their extended family for their (very) young kids.

Brockman and his partner agreed to stay at Hawthorn for at least another year after Sam and Lyndall assured them of appropriate support on the family front.

Geelong probably offered the same to Kelly and his partner but my recollection from media reports is that they didn't want to stay and wanted to leave anyway. Essentially, they were forced to stay a season longer than they wanted to.

I'm pretty sure Mr & Mrs Brockman look back on their stint at Hawthorn much more fondly than Mr & Mrs Kelly do about their time at Geelong.

Worth noting too that we facilitated a stress-free trade for Tyler to his preferred destination whereas the Cats haggled a fair bit before agreeing a deal for Kelly.

I agree we handled it as well as it could be. I think Tyler wanted to leave each year at the club in 2021, 2022 and 2023.

I think we successfully convinced him to stay for 2022 and give time to settle, then he had a rough year with injury so wasn't a valuable trade asset and promised him that if he still wanted to leave in 2023 we would trade him, but weren't going to do so with his value at lowest and in contract.

I think we thought as he was happy with the club itself the home sickness would fade and we got forced into trading him when the contract was up.

Nothing wrong with convincing someone to stay or refusing a trade for a contracted player, but as we did and as melbourne did with petracca. Eventually you just let them go.

Gold Coast have no picks in the 2026 draft at the moment. If they fail to win the premiership their 2027 goal will be to target specific areas and make sure everyone there wants to be. They could have some academy prospects they don't want to miss out on so will need points. They may have trade targets that are crucial for them. If Humphrey still wants out next year I think he will get his wish.

I still don’t know why geelong wasn’t criticized for the Kelly situation. Family reasons and they were dix about it.

A few interesting things of note from the article about from number23

. Hawthorn offered [Eastern Ranges tall utility Marcus] Krasnadamskis the chance as a train-on, but the basketball convert chose to trial with the Tigers.

The Hawks have two spots to fill on the list and are considering trialling another player or two in the new year, but extended the trials of Perez and Stanley this week.

Given his injury, McLaughlin has been released. Wouldn't say that necessarily precludes him from a later SSP selection but might as well keep his train-on spot available for someone who can actually train.

That was when Tony ******** was in charge, I know he still has ties to the club but I think Tony has moved on

I wouldn’t be surprised if he were to request a trade again next year, especially if he is considered expendable to make way for more academy rorts, that they are entitled to.
