AFL Player 28: Brayden Fiorini - straight into the leadership group! - 17/12

He was noted for being a hard trainer and well well-respected member of the group at the Suns. Didn't think he'd be in the leadership group, but if his reputation as a hard trainer is correct, then he's exactly who we should be including.

Apparently a real culture builder too, started off-field groups to help players with careers and such.

Good luck to him but a 28 year old with no leadership group experience, who's spent most of his career as a fringe/bottom best 23 player at a club that has largely been a basketcase, immediately getting into our LG, says a fair bit.
That's the spirit.

For those who want to be disappointed in Fiorini straight into the leadership, take a positive view in that we have identified a clear lack of leadership, he was identified, attainable and we got it done for a reasonable price. Should only be seen as a net positive for the young list

May not be a world beater but being a serviceable role player at AFL level is all we need, similar to Xavier Duursma and Jaxon Prior, Peter Wright. Get 30, 50, 70, 100 AFL games and make his position gettable for the kids.

Grouping Duursma with Prior & Wright has offended me greatly

Very interested to see how he is used.
Will be an upgrade on the wing rotation given we have used Jones/Cox/Lual amongst others in recent years.
Pretty sure I in a recent article wing will be his role.

There have been a lot of young, high profile superstars at GCS, for a team that’s never done anything.

I reckon some of those “b grade” Suns like Fiorini will relish the chance to get some clear air and show how good they actually are.

Have you watched Essendons last two and a half decades ?? You mentioned the term "basket case "Brayden Fiorini should be welcomed like a God.

Yep they said he'll be straight in to the wing role, he can play a CBA role if needed but I assume that'll only be to cover injuries.

Hopefully it means Cox / Jones are played somewhere else since I don't think they're wingmen.

Likely VFL with how things are looking.

Clarke Dursma Fiorini have the wings locked up.

There’s potentially 1 tall forward spot if we want to play one of May/cox/jones as KPF alongside 2MP but that’s no certainty

I'd argue both spending a full season in the VFL is a good thing for them and the club. Play them there in a role that they might have a long-term future in, build some consistency from injury, be available if a spot in the AFL side opens up or they show such good form they push someone out.
