That was my exact pre-series prediction, as I explained to all the jittery nuffies on this board that as long as we have Sandpaper Smith and Carey and at least two of Boland/Starc/Cummins/Haze, we can't lose. We actually suck as a whole, it's just that every other team sucks worse than us because test cricket has gone to sh*t.

I also got the obvious prediction of Wood getting injured right, although to my surprise Archer hasn't been injured yet too.

All these worries over what team we should select or how long our tail is - we are playing against campaigners who haven't won a test here in 15 years.

It doesn't matter what 11 we select. As long as crybaby Smith is there and Carey is there to rescue things when the other batsmen spud it up, we will be in the same position we've been in for years. Which is to just be lucky that the opposition is even worse than us.

Any two of Boland/Starc/Haze/Cummins supported by one of our backups is enough to roll teams on our home decks.

Archer, Wood and Stokes will get injured, snuffing out any false hope soon enough too.

So sit back, relax and watch England get rolled 4-0 and then the Sydney test be another pathetic dead rubber draw.

Strikes me as a guy that would do it for the challenge though and you can tell in his voice when he commentates, he loves Test cricket. Doesn't hurt to make a call.

Kuhnemann had one particularly good test. I have seen enough of him at FC level to tell you he doesnt spin the ball enough and isnt test quality.

Starc has a few days off if anyone doesn’t might be Cummins. Probably one plays Mel and one plays Sydney.

Cummins wont play (which actually helps us if smith is back as Cummins cant set fields at all) and I doubt starc does either. You will see neser and maybe Doggett or Richardson.

Be interesting to see how we freshen up our attack.... Cummins on Fox hinted he is no certainty to play Boxing day and will see how he pulls up. I'd rather Neser over Doggett if we are going back to one of those wells.

MCG wicket recently has had good pace and bounce so wonder who replaces Nafan... Webster would stiffen our lower order batting or now we have Won ashes do we look properly at Kuhneman or Murphy... Murphy was ordinary in England last Ashes though

To be fair, as much as I loathe Piers Morgan (and I also find it interesting everyone's doing exactly what he wants by engagement rage baiting), he has a point here. Lee was bowling massive no balls and bowling short stuff following his body as he was backing away. All Lee had to do was bowl some medium paced yorkers, clean bowled Piers, and everyone could have moved on. Dick move by Lee.

pat leans defensive/passive and sets fields for when teams like england gift their wickets. he'd rather stop a boundary than stop all runs. so we will see some games drift, but if your team is good enough to set a huge total there's some wriggle room.

Disappointing but oh well, Australia are always hard to beat at home. At least showed some fight here and can carry some of that to Melbourne and Sydney and steal a consolation win.

If it means the end of McCullum then it’s worth it, the bloke has never won in Australia as a player so was never going to develop a strategy to win here as a coach.

Id love to put together some Sri Lanka batting highlights of the last couple of years. They have some talent but their brain fades are hilarious. Yes at the Harry Brook level of stupid.
