From what I gather I don’t even think they’ve been in each others lives that long. Like under two years for sure. Latched onto Jarryd Lyons and his wife for a while so would’ve been a connection through there, but I don’t see any social media interaction between them until February this year.

I honestly couldn't fathom ever doing that to a partner, but I am nerd who has been in a relationship with one person for 18 years - and those 18 years have definitely not been all sunshine and roses, like any relationship. I just dont get the part of a person that gets to the act and goes through with it knowing how much pain it will cause.

Having said that, I understand different people are wired differently but then, you have to be a special kind of piece of shit to cheat with your partners best friend, after going through IVF and having a couple of young kids. Like, there's cheating and there's taking a metaphorical emotional shotgun and shooting someone in the back.

I agree he did something wrong i just believe people enjoy publicly shaming sports stars and celebrities while the general public do exactly the same thing but without being criticized by people over public forums.

I have never criticized Banners or JOM for who they are as terrific role models. They come across as very decent people. I have definitely mentioned that I don't think Banfield is a good footballer. Which is a performance based industry nothing to do with his personal life.

Without us or the media talking about him as a high profile sportsman Lachie Neale is just another person who I doubt very much would even have the opportunity to have these 2 beautiful looking women in his life.

The fame & fortune that comes with being an afl footballer is all because of the media & the fans who pay the money for membership, games, merch etc but also means you have greater spotlight on you if you mess up, on & off the field. They know that, it’s one of the first things they’re educated on at clubs.

We (supporters & media) pump them up & we will knock them down if they fail. Particularly morally.

I think that plays a part, the so called "tall poppy syndrome" of bringing down those who dare to rise too high or be too visible. However, I think it is more complex than that overall.

For some people it is about seeing people who are held up as infallible being shown to be fallible and this engaging the audience's own fallibility. People then react in many different ways. Some will lash out in an effort to try to claim a higher moral ground or to cover their own fallibility with bravado. These are the people who seek out the people on social media and post all those comments etc.

Other people just have a need to understand or see patterns, they might go digging through social media, or commentary to try to make sense of the situation in their own mind. These people might share what they find with others in a community they are part of, but never explicitly pass judgement on the behaviour being exposed beyond calling it out. I do not think these people are necessarily looking to bring the sports star down.

We live in a very saturated environment where we have so much information available that we are conditioned to expect to be able to know everything about the people on our screens.

Even this is overly simplistic.

Neale met up with Fagan in Darwin when Freo were up there for a game, and Fagan sold him a ‘vision’. Maybe he spoke to other clubs - who knows - but it was the mid-season personal meeting with Fagan that saw him decide to go to Brisbane - who were also shit at the time, like Freo.
