Stock standard US imperialism.

The oil is huge though. Generally traded in USD, so ultimately props up thr US economy and control of world markets. Regaining Exxon control of the largest reserve in the world is a HUUUGE play for them. I presume Madura is overthrown soon and the US will install Machado as a puppet. Not even a a particularly █████ thing TBH. Bush and Obama have meddled (to a lesser extent) in Venezuala in recent decades.
Central and South America is their property too ... well that's how they behave. Look up the origin of the term "Banana Republic".

How far has the USN fallen when they produce propaganda rubbish like this, simply to massage the orange morons ego. This one will never get legs, it will be another failed USN ship class, to go along with the Zumwalt, the littoral combat ship and most recently the cancelled Constellation class.

The other Trumpy era ship for the USN is a 'small combatant', a modest frigate that is going to be produced without a VLS. That's right, a frigate size ship that has no VLS to launch the huge inventory of weapons the USN has that require a VLS. Absolute stupidity. Trump really does corrupts everything he touches.

Who needs a VLS when you can have this?

two paragraphs that show the media decline, the politicisation, and the decline in journalism generally. kudos to sharyn.

"Within two hours, Alfonsi sent an email to her fellow correspondents and the production team that worked on the piece. “Our story was screened five times and cleared by both CBS attorneys and Standards and Practices. It is factually correct. In my view, pulling it now — after every rigorous internal check has been met — is not an editorial decision, it is a political one,” she wrote.

She continued, “Our viewers are expecting it. When it fails to air without a credible explanation, the public will correctly identify this as corporate censorship. We are trading 50 years of ‘gold standard’ reputation for a single week of political quiet.”

romney isn't the first rich person to say this. the great warren buffett has been advocating it for ages. sadly, the oligarchs are avaricious. what did kerry packer say when asked how much money is enough - a little bit more, wasn't it?

positive news. fancy thomas dissenting. should be doing time.

"Friends,

Some good news to end the year on. The Supreme Court today blocked Trump from sending the National Guard into the Chicago area — finally setting a limit to Trump’s executive power.

The decision was 6 to 3, with Roberts, Kavanaugh, and Barrett joining the three liberal justices in a majority. Alito, Gorsuch, and Thomas dissented.

The court said that Trump had “failed to identify a source of authority that would allow the military to execute the laws in Illinois,” and, presumably, other states.

Trump had said he needed the troops to protect federal immigration agents at a detention facility.

Existing law allows a president call on the military if there is a foreign invasion or “danger of a rebellion,” or if the president is unable to execute federal laws with “regular forces.”

Trump’s Justice Department argued that “regular forces” means federal civilian law enforcement, such as Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers. And protests in Illinois prevented the president from enforcing immigration laws using ICE officers alone.

But a majority of the court found that the term “regular forces” refers to the nation’s standing military — and the authority to call the National Guard into federal service is meant as a backstop for the Army, Navy and other “regular” military forces.

The court noted that a president’s ability to use the military this way is limited to “exceptional” circumstances. That’s because another federal law, known as the Posse Comitatus Act, sharply restricts the use of the standing military to conduct domestic law enforcement.

Bingo.

Because the decision came in the form of an unsigned order on the court’s emergency docket, that’s about all we can know of the court’s logic.

But this is a big deal.

Trump has won short-term rulings in more than 20 other emergency appeals this year — allowing him to follow through on an array of policies that lower courts had blocked (such as laying off thousands of federal workers, ending programs that had allowed immigrants to remain in the country legally, and terminating research grants and foreign aid).

Trump’s Justice Department had argued that this case “falls in the heartland of unreviewable presidential discretion.”

Wrong. The Supreme Court just put up a fence limiting that heartland. And finally a bulwark constraining a president’s power.

It’s about time. "

more positive news.

"Congresswoman Joyce Beatty sues Trump to block the renaming of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts."

I have been thinking about why the US Navy put this idea in ██████ head. It occurs to me that somebody is being cunning. The Trump class looks like a rehash of the 1970s concept of the Strike Cruiser, with some new SciFi lasers and railguns added.

Is this what the US navy needs? Well no, they could do with a replacement to the Tico's but more urgent is the lack of small surface combatants. Something they have been trying and failing to fix for decades.

But there will always be fools in congress who demand they build BIGGER ships than the Chinese and demand a replacement for the Tico's now, but bigger, with more kaboom. What better way to stop this happening than a concept named after Trump that will still be in the drawing board stage when he dies. Nobody will want to touch that concept, it will be dumped faster than the tacky gold Trump deco in the Whitehouse.

Mind you if they try to build them, I am not sure how much damage they could do to the Chinese, but at $10-15b per ship, the US economy would feel a lot of pain.

In the meantime they can give Trump some gold crayons and big sheets of paper so he can help design his battleship. Now I am off to buy some crayons and paper for my 2 year old nephew.

I was listening to a pod today which claimed that the USA does not even have hypersonic missiles.

No wonder Israel and the USA shat themselves in the 12 day war with Iran.

Building battleships when the rest of the world is moving to asymmetrical warfare on steroids is an interesting move.

Also, if these do get built (which they won't), but if they did AUKUS is dead and buried. USA does not have enough shipbuilding as it is.

But robots or something

I'm no where near his age but am a child of the 70s/80s so I kind of get it...back then, you could knock out Revell model plane kits in no time, but building the Bismarck was The challenge.

Just part of his regression to childhood, has he endured any stressful events recently? Get him one of these kits to keep him busy building his special battleship.
