I found it to be a pretty enigmatic statement.

What does “opposite QUT” mean? Isn’t pretty much the whole park opposite QUT? Or does he just mean on the west side of the park? Or does he mean opposite the "main bit" of QUT?

What does “Over the existing golf course” mean? Not over the driving range? Well, that wouldn’t be on the west side then. Or is he including the driving range as part of the “golf course”? And he just means not on the clubhouse and car parks?

Or is he just trying to avoid saying "pretty much smack bang in the middle" to avoid triggering the nimbys?

Meh, I don't know.
I don't think they will release the location until those objecting are knocked back. Or until they can't wait any longer.

Taking his "opposite QUT" comment literally you could extend to the extreme. Up down and all the way to Gilchrist Avenue and across to Gregory Terrace. Yes, that would cover the whole park. That's reading far too much into a simple statement.

I think if he wanted to be vague, he would have said "East of QUT Kelvin Grove Campus" not "opposite"

Regarding the guy saying, "Golf course" instead of Golf driving range". In my opinion just a slight mix-up in wording.

He gave two points of reference and i thought that nailed the likely position.
My thoughts went straight to that approximate stadium location, and it did not cross my mind he meant any other place
It won't be right up against the QUT campus though.

He did not give away the orientation of the stadium.
But from the map below we know N, S, E, W direction.
Posters that follow cricket would know the best orientation for cricket but is it also good for AFL

just on the stadium design, luttsy said he saw the other designs and they were all pretty similar what got the winning bid over the line was there commitment to sticking to the budget more so than the actual design itself
Can confirm this. A friend works for one of the firms that was in the running. They didn't get it and said the Govt was really trying to keep costs down.

Yeah i work for a large construction engineering firm and yeah, the g/ment are hell bent on keeping to the budget. Tbh, I don't know how realistically doable that is, but it is definitely the major factor for them. I don't blame them either, coz this thing could balloon big time given the scope and hard deadline.

Arup boss raising the bar for city life, one Olympics at a time
“It is about setting the principles for a human city, to create a place and not a group of buildings, places where the local community benefit from jobs and amenities and want to come to.”
It is a recipe that Arup hopes to cook up for Brisbane, where it has become the masterplanning contractor for the 2032 Olympics in Australia with a remit to connect transport infrastructure and create new communities.

They did the press conference the other day in E Block on that map. During the conference at one point they said the stadium would be just out the window. The window looks out into the driving range

This is Bleijie's full quote in the presser:
"We're yet to pinpoint the exact location, HOWEVER, if you look behind us this seems to be a very good spot for Brisbane stadium. And, if you have a look at the architectural drawings you may see a Brisbane stadium just out this window here. And that would give a pretty good indication of where we're looking at. But we'll leave that to the experts ... If there's better locations [depending on the testing] that's where it'll be."
Here's the link if anyone wants to watch it: Facebook - Brisbane Times. The Q&A bit the end is the most interesting. Everyone involved really pushes back on a lot of nonsense opposition groups are pushing about the stadium and what will happen to the surrounding parkland. Like, Bleijie's"restaurants, bars, and venues" comment that got shared amongst stadium critics last week was actually referring to the wider precinct area surrounding Vic Park not in Vic Park itself.
Bleijie also said they expect to release the aquatic centre designs "very soon" with whoever the winning firm is

Good detective work fellas.

So here is the view from the roof of E Block, almost straight down the barrel of the gully that runs through the driving range and then dog-legs down to Gilchrist.

It's not actually going to fit in the gully; they are still going to have to take out a fair chunk of the hill to the right, which will be no small task as Google Maps massively understates the terrain's hillyness.

Def the part of the park with the fewest trees.

Would be a great decision to build it in the driving range there, pending soil testing, etc. You can still rewild the rest of the park, inline with what BCC proposed, too to significantly improve the site and green space on site. And would piss off SVP so much.

I wouldn’t like to get to and from public transport in pouring rain if they built it there. Needs to be closer to public transport.

Anywho, I’m wondering if part of the transport plan is some sort of mega expansion of that QUT busway. They could lengthen the platforms, but could they also expand them out at that section to be 4 platforms?

It just feels like we are missing a big piece to the PT puzzle.

...Text keeps disappearing when I edit, but then reappears in the final post, which I can’t edit...I assume this has something to do with the latest wave of genius-level BF updates...

GIICA
A partnership set to deliver one of Brisbane’s most iconic pieces of infrastructure.
Hear from Hassell Managing Principal Lucy O'Driscoll and Cox Architecture Director Richard Coulson on how their design partnership for the new Brisbane Stadium came to be, and their shared vision for a loved, connected and well-used Victoria Park.
Plus, GIICA CEO Simon Crooks shares what this major milestone means for an exciting 2026.

On Buses
Maybe they can better utilize existing land and use it to park excess buses to feed the network
They could be just shuttle busses to Roma Street and the CBD. Or just extra buses to the more popular destinations.
A combination of both would be logical.

Below image 1 is the Wooloongabba bus parking bay as an example.
This area holds quite a lot of buses which they use as extra buses for Eight-mile Plains after the Gabba games.

Wooloongabba bus station is closed for 1 hour after the game except for the 2 routes below.
Wooloongabba bus station is the terminus for bus route 340 so they can transport people to Chermside & Carseldine every 10 minutes. I am not sure if they put on extra buses after the game for this service.
This is separate to the shuttle buses to Chermside Shopping Centre that leave from Wellington Road.

Extra buses for Eight-mile Plains also leave from this location after the game.
They park in this orange area on the map and feed the platform when called.

Below Image 1

Below Image 2
They may be able to better use this area. It is northbound between Roma Street and Normanby bus station.
Convert to something similar to what's at the Wooloongabba station as well as retaining its present use.
Just two stops (express) to QUT bus station. Easy to radio through to call up a number of buses at a time.

Below Image 3
Blue dot - At present traffic lights letting buses get through the intersection on Gilchrist Avenue.
Gilchrist Avenue will be closed eventually

Use enough land deemed necessary for excess bus parking.
From this area buses can feed the southern suburbs if the above in image 2 is used for northbound buses.
However, this location is ideal as it can send buses both north and south.
The white building has been demolished and land leveled out.
Leave the small number of existing trees so no parkland/greenspace taken up if used.
Could also be used for public parking on Stadium non-event days which is 5/6 days per week income for someone.
This also helps replace the loss of Gilchrist Avenue paid parking.

What I can say is that all these overhead highlighted shots from Google Maps is making me reminisce about discussions of green space and a certain training base... :D

Murray Watt rejects urgent call to stop Brisbane Olympic stadium, appoints mediator - Hayden Johnson
An urgent application to stop construction work on Brisbane’s Olympic Stadium at Victoria Park has been rejected by Federal Environment Minister Murray Watt.
The Courier-Mail can reveal Mr Watt has determined an Indigenous group’s application for him to issue an immediate stop-work notice has not met the required threshold.
He is still considering three separate, non-urgent applications to stop construction at the park, where Brisbane’s 63,000-seat main Olympic stadium will be built.
Mr Watt has the power to issue a declaration to protect a significant Aboriginal heritage area under threat of injury or desecration.
He received four applications to intervene at Victoria Park, including one related to drilling and considered urgent.
While Mr Watt decided not to issue an urgent stop-work notice, he has ordered an independent mediator be appointed to work with the Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority, community and Indigenous representatives.
“This is intended to enable timely, ongoing and structured discussion between the interested parties, to support pragmatic options that protect cultural heritage,” he said.
“The purpose of the dedicated facilitator will be to avoid harm to cultural heritage, and inform any future decisions relating to the specified areas.
“This decision follows consultation with interested parties and acknowledges the area is of particular significance to the Turrbal and Yagara people in accordance with their traditions.”
Opponents of Victoria Park say the site, Barrambin, has significant meaning to the city’s Indigenous people.
Mr Watt’s appointment of a facilitator is intended to ensure the community’s views are being heard by project developers.
He warned the work of the mediator could inform his decision-making on the three separate applications to stop work at Victoria Park.

I want Spidercam back for the stadium build

I finally watched the presser about the location. The bit that really kinda gave it away was when the architect pointed out the window and said, "That hilltop where the driving range facilities are, that’s the bit we reckon will connect to the top levels of the stadium".

Agree that somewhere along your red gully line is where the stadium will go.

However, i am not sure why we can't take CIICA at what they have very recently said.
That being "northern end over the existing golf course opposite QUT Kelvin Grove."
So below is about using the area they mentioned

I have no expertise on earthworks and using fill along with making sure drainage is done correctly.
So just a layman's thoughts on the earthworks fill movement of high point to a lower point

Pink area above your gully line - Basically stays as a hi point.
This is where i assume they want the stadium to fit into the hill for "added shade". Obviously, some earthworks would be done in this section, but i think they want to retain that high point. Maybe they can shave it down some and use the fill.
This high point section is fairly level.
One render image below shows wide ramps entering directly to the upper levels of the stadium. So likely from that high point area. The other image is how it fits into the hill and the surrounding landscape.

Yellow - High area fairly level. Basically, all the businesses that will have to vacate by 1/6/26.

Pink area below your red gully line - Approximate high arears that can be used in earthworks to help level the area needed. Pushed left and right to get the desired level

Pink dots - The drop off to lower sections

Then bring in fill from elsewhere to complete the earthworks.

I have not listened to that presser only what CIICA had recently mentioned.

From what you are saying that makes my post number 8244 close to correct.
You can see one walkway leading from the QUT Kelvin Grove bus station showing the stadium tucked into that high point.
The other render where at least 1 entry is to the upper levels of the stadium
